Why do you Need to Speak up?

Speak your minds and share your ideas and opinions with others around you!

Believe it. Keeping your ideas to yourself may not take you far. The time spent on generating the arguments and supporting details will end up with an A+ letter grade or a pensive moment of silence.

Try to speak up!, share and present your ideas, and influence others around you.

Speaking your minds can be promising in several ways:
1) an opportunity to tell people about your wonderful and critical interpretations of issues
2) a platform for you to gather more audience to support your opinion
3) a convenient means of publicity for yourself

Speak up is indeed a kickstart to persuasive communication which can be used as a tool to inform, persuade and influence others to support your stance. It also promotes critical thinking and healthy debate on issues of interests.

Persuasive communication comes in handy for undergraduates in their academic oral presentations, graduates in their selection interviews, CEOs during contract negotiations, and even political leaders during their election campaigns.

As the saying goes, "No man is an island". One needs a friend, a company. What better way to cherish this rapport other than to communicate your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs via conversations, discussions, and debates.

Speaking up is not such a popular trend in Malaysia. Many prefer to conform to the general opinion of others. Many do not realise that when you speak of your opinion, despite how bizarre the idea sounds, you are expressing a part of yourself; and to express oneself truthfully, one requires confidence and self belief. Those are the qualities that people look for in certain cases, such as when employing for high position jobs.
One may wonder how to start with this. After all, eloquence is not a trait that is acquired overnight. Take small steps by first expressing your views to your family and friends. Do that and you are on your way to expressing your views to the outside world.

public speaking is essential to one's career development.. good grades will secure interviews but the job itself is secured by how they sell themselves at the interviews.. therefore if communication skill is lacking, the candidate will appear adequate, at best..

Its true that by speaking up people are able to express their thoughts & opinions & can have other people commenting their ideas, but that is also the reason why many are afraid to share..the critics. While some of us welcome other's thoughts about our own idea, most just cant handle the pressure of getting critise & so just kept quiet. What they should've realise is that people nowadays are getting more open minded to new ideas, and that even some of the greatest ideas ever are usually getting rejected & misunderstood in the first place. And anyway, keeping your ideas & opinions to yourself are no better than getting critise for something you belive in.At least you're getting somewhere & can improve.Dont ever let something so simple bring you down. One of the way is to surround yourself with people who trust you to build up the confidence first to then face the world. And when you're really ready, its time to Speak Up and let your voice be heard!

yeah..that's true..when we speakup, that can help us to be more confident to talk with evryone..we also can improve ourselves by speaking up..when we speaking up,we can share our opinion and ideas with anyone around us..so..why we must waste our time?..i don't think that are difficult things to do..just try to speak up..:)

Hehehe...that is true.Critics.People who stick to their own perspective and couldn't accept others opinion. This type of people still exist in this ever-changing world. The type that could bring down others with them. They just know how to critic others opinion instead of accepting and giving their own opinion. We must stop from having this type of mentality.Speak up ur own words and stand by them while accepting others words as well!!!

Speaking up is tough...initially.

We're comfortable talking about something we feel we're "expert" in or something we've experienced first hand.

So why even bother speaking up ? I guess its because we feel, know and wish to share the importance of our opinion. Well if its not important who'll bother listening... Even tough some might find it unimportant but just by making your topic important, by style of speech or by relating the topic to personal experience, you "get" the crowd and the crowd gets you.

Confidence, style, glamor, fluency..the tip of a public speakers attributes...

Anything to loose by speaking up ?
Nah, worried you say something wrong ?? Research, facts, as the saying goes knowledge is power...its as easy as reading this Blog, you get so much info.

Feel your topic is stupid or not worth talking about ? Then switch topics, cause if your not confident in your own speech, how can u convince others??

Remember always speak with CONVICTION and you will be untouchable, undoubted, incomparable.

Emerson said it best.. "Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel. It is to bring another out of his bad sense into your good sense."

So go on and speak up !

I am a 25 year old girl, with a decision to start my own wedding planning company last year. As a law graduate, I've always thought that my own victory is sufficient for me to be successful in my dealings. But since I decided to open my own company, I've learnt that as an entrepreneur, my main objective was to find a win - win situation. Both parties must feel like they are winners. This is a new skill that I have to learn in life and I have made one too many mistakes in finding the right formula to approach this situation.

Understanding groups and learning to speak up as Kak Zue has pointed out here is so vital in my line of work. Not only because we need to influence people to buy whatever product or service that we have to offer, but when we choose to build our own companies, the ability to inspire people to believe in what we dream is so significant, that without it, we become just another "salesman".

I thank Kak Zue and others like her that has helped to educate us so sincerely and hope this blog will benefit to all of us who is always in search of "ilmu".

Many students nowadays have a brilliance idea in their minds, but, the common mistake that they actually do not realise is try to not share her or his idea with other persons near to them. So,their true potential cannot been unleashed and no one will notice their abilities if they try not to speak up. So, to all students out there, including me, be yourself and try to speak up whatever do you think beneficial to people around us.

Speak our mind and share our ideas and opinion with others around us is good actually. But there is some problem. Most of the students is shy to express their ideas and cannot speaking fluently.By that, they continues keep their ideas from the others. For example,it is happen to me actually.Just because of my shyness and my not-fluently in speaking,no bodies know what is actually mind want to speak. The conclusion is,remove all the obstacle so that we can speak our mind and share our ideas with others around us.

Nowadays social skills is very important to ensure us to get a good job. One way to improve our social skills is to speak up. This skill is very important for employee because the fluency of speak up will affect the productivity of a company. For example, when someone give his/her mind in a meeting he/she should have a confidence to speak and this will ensure that his/her opinion will be accepted by the boss. Furthermore, if we are use to speak up, we easily can raise support from other. In whatever we do. Doing something without support from others will make our performance in working decrease. In conclusion, speak up is very important for us to make sure our dream become reality and to maintence our working performance.

i agree with u mam,Keeping our ideas to ourself may not take us far.we have speak out to share our thoughts to some one else..but the thing that make a big gate infront of us is some bad habits such as shyness, fear, lack of confidence,
lack of knowledge..to become a successful speaker we should avoid this bad habits..so i'm trying to throw away my bad habits now.. i hope i can be a good speaker in future..

Instead of having all the thoughts and ideas jumbled up in mind, we should speak up so that we could share the thoughts and ideas with other people. When those ideas and thoughts are shared, we could obtained more ideas from them. Two (or more) heads are better than one right.

As for me, critiques ad comments from other people might be difficult to accept at first, but then with that I know what I'm lacking of and where to improve. :)

"No man is an island".I really agree with this statement. In our daily life,we cannot run from meeting people and social life.I also agree that keeping your ideas to yourself may not take you far.Not many people have the guts to speak up what is on their mind or express their feeling or share their opinion with others. This is because they have this feeling of shyness or fear of critism when their idea or opinion are rejected by others. They did not realize that people nowadays are more open minded and will not critics directly. They will also share their opinion to make your ideas getting better. So,do not afraid to speak up your mind and make yourself confidence!

I'm totally agree with the content in the second line. if we didn't speak up and keep our ideas to ourself, it may not take us far. Speak up is all about speak our mind and share our ideas to others. I believe everyone have their own ideas and each of them may have different thoughts and opinion. Idea and opinion that came out may be good or the other way round. What people didn't realize here is a good or not so good idea is not important here. The important thing is how we deliver and tell our opinion to others. Most of us have this problem in order to speak up which is lack of confidence. We have to realize, if we have any idea, what we have to do is just speak up. We dont have to worry about the content of the ideas and what people said. Just speak up and deliver what we think with confidence.

Billa said...

I think, whether you need to speak up by asking for what you want, defending yourself, or expressing your feelings, know that speaking up is about honoring what you know to be true for you. Just speak up to share our ideas with anybody around us and do not afraid of what others think. Just be true to ourself.

syquina said...

To me speaking up is a must. Why is this so??Two main reasons why I find speaking up is a must are being able to express one’s thought and a guarantee to employability.
First ly,speaking up is actually a platform for all of us to voice out our thoughts on a subject , issue, discussion, etc. It also enables us to share our ideas, feelings and opinions with others. Not only that,we will also get to know what others really think about a particular issue. It can be that they have totally different view bout a particular issue or it can be that they totally agree with us an see eye to eye on that particular issue.Besides that,we get to exchange views and perspectives and in the same time learn to respect people’s opinions and their say on a topic. However, some people are just so afraid of speaking up.This does not exclude me! Im am still figuring out wat is it that is holding me back from speaking up my thoughts and ideas when there’s people around me.But im trying to change this attitude of mine slowly, one step at a time.
Another reason why I think speaking up is a must is because it ensures employability among fresh graduates. As we all know getting a job nowadays is really challenging. All graduates have to compete among each other just to get a job somewhere.Today ,excellent grades does not guarantee 100% that you will be employed.Big companies are looking for fresh graduates who are well equipped with interpersonal skills, soft skills and social skills who can speak up and convey new ideas and solutions.
So,in a nutshell speaking up or public speaking is indeed very important and we should not take it lightly. So,waste no time!Speak up,tell people your ideas.Im only starting by just posting a comment in the comment box :)

It is vital to speak up especially in our modern world. People are being so strict when it comes to expressing thier ideas or maybe thoughts. So, for you to be able to defend yourself and also your idea if people are against it u need more practice. How to do so? Like Pn Zue said, by speaking up.Yes, it sounds so easy. But the truth is, you need a lot of work to do because that expertise won't come within one night hard work. Iam in learning process myself but as i observe in class, we should manage to steal the opportunity to speak up when it is given. Speak with high level of confident when your are given such chances. By doing so, it will boost our self-esteem not only that people would not dare to argue with your ideas as well.

We need to speak up because it shows that we are not afraid to let people know what we feels. Speak up can make us feels more confident about ourselves.

Greetings Ma'am :)

Well, by sharing your ideas, opinions and thoughts might help you to believe in yourself. But some people dislike it. Somehow, you have to share it because who knows by doing this with your friends, family etc and you'll find the missing piece. To illustrated, when you studying with your friends, you didn't notice your mistakes but your friends do .. then they tells you. But,when you study alone.. then you'll never notice your mistakes.

So, try to speak up.. we all know its not an easy task but you don't want to be left behind isn't? Speak up can develop our minds our thoughts.. feels free to share .. everyone deserve to speak up. If you think you are right then speak up and you don't want your feeling walking away just like that.. let it fades away .. that's a big NO NO for you. In politics, not only leaders can speak up .. leaders also keen to hear what's on their citizen's mind. We have our right to speak up, don't freak out ..no one will murder you :)

Lastly, you just have to try it and you'll know how it feels like. Speak up can makes you feels relief.

Thanks Ma'am . May you have a good day :)

Why do we need to speak up?

Its really essential for students like us to speak up, share our ideas, views and opinions.
We speak everyday with other peoples and it can improve our communication skills and thoughts. Besides that, we can feel more confident and brave when speak in public.
It can train our mind to think quickly, make some new ideas, improve our language and good communication improvement skills.

So, lets speak up from now ! :)

I'd be more comfortable with the idea if there are many other psychological explainations on why it is important for us to speak up.I mean with the shoes i'm in,being an agoraphobic, or for a misanthrope out there let say, we can't be arsed by the fact. I believe everyone does realised the necessity of speaking up to the public especially in a working environment but sometimes it depends on the individual. In my opinion, the idea of speaking up only suits those who possess professional careers.

M.J. Lim said...

The main reason I think that we need to speak up is because it is such a NORMAL thing to do! Speaking up has always been one of the ways to express one's ideas and thoughts. It's just that in Malaysia, or even in the entire eastern society, we were conditioned to just "listen to what the teacher have to say" and say yes to every question asked. We should simply forget about the so-called butterflies in our stomaches as 95% of our fears will probably NOT happen! If you worry about speaking up all the time, then 95% of the time, you are wasting your time AND energy. By speaking up, one will certainly gain confidence and feel much more comfortable as he or she had already express their opinions, comments, thoughts and ideas. By observing people who are shy to tell other people of their thoughts, we can easily see that they look so awkward as if they were sitting on needles! Next, one can have a much brighter future if he or she can speak fluently to convey whatever they are thinking of. In this highly competitive knowledge-based era, we literally have SEAS of university graduates flooding the working world, competing with each other to get jobs and various opportunities. What makes a graduate different from the others? Obviously it is the highly-praised "speaking skill". For example, the President of the United States, Barrack Obama, utilized his splendid public speaking skills to its full potential and it won him the presidency. Thus, it is clear as a bell that being able to speak well is extremely vital. So, we should sharpen our speaking skill from this second onwards.

Why did we need to speak up? everybody have their own right to share their opinions or ideas. by speak up, we can gain our self confident level and being more brave person. The problems now, most of us afraid of speaking up. They are worried if people around them might critics and try to bring them down. We are suppose not to bother what they think and say about what we talked about. As long as we can shared what do we think, it is already enough. Do not be shy if we make a lot of mistakes. The more mistakes we made, the more knowledge we will learned. Without realizing it, speak up actually can also help us to improve our communication skills. We can develop our skills in communicating with other people (foreigner)

"Why do you need to speak up?". We need to speak up so that we can voice out our opinion, dissatisfaction, our desire our hope and so on. Everyone can talk but only certain people can speak. We should speak at the right moment with the right words so that the message goes to the destination.

"Why do we need to speak up?",for me this is the most important factor to generates our daily life. Why do i say that?Because in our life routine we have to face many people and communicate with them. The boss with their workers, businessman with their clients, teachers with their students and doctors with their patients. Can you imagine if all this important individual have the shy or scare feeling to speak up with the people they deals? I think their job will be mess. Speak up also is one of the method to build our confident as said by Tun Dr.Mahathir Mohammad in one of his speech," Malaysian have to be brave to stand and talk to the world even though we are small country ", which is referring to our role as one of important country in United Nations or PBB. This is the proof a small country like Malaysia can stand together with other country because we are brave enough to speak up. In my personal experience being a photographer beside a student of UNITEN, speak up is one of me and my team marketing strategies. We have to convince client by our service and product by good communication skills and confident in our conversation. So Malaysians, i did not think that speak up is an abnormal thing. Everybody should change their thinking that speak up is not our culture. Do speak and be confident.

We are not going anywhere if we keep the ideas only to ourselves. It wont take you any step further, instead you will lose all the opportunities ahead. Assalamualaikum Puan Zue,

I think this post is a great topic to discuss. Not just in this blog but worldwide..especially in our country.Speaking up is a perfect way to train people to make their own decision. This speaking up should be trained in primary school...it can make people more confidence and when stepping in universities, they can be as good as a leceturer when speaking. Although, according to my opinion,in Malaysia, majority of people just like to save their thinking skills in their minds and just let their thoughts flow with the wind. They dont have the courage to give a shout about what they think. I agree 200% that speaking up can boost up confidence in out lives. Its not just speaking up when the lecturer tells us to speak up, but in our daily life. Hence, speaking up can be a good skill and gives us benefit to attend an interview when finding a good job or entering a university such ever. As an example,i gotta fren that had 'Marvelous' results on SPM which is 12A's ..but he was lack of speaking skills...so when he took the interview to get a scholar, so didnt succeed. hw ever,my other fren got only 8A's SPM,and he was such a speaking up and critical thinking kind of guy,he got that scholar.
So i wanna make a conclusion about this speaking up... its a good and particular way to enhance our ability to stand up and give our own opinions . We have the rights to do that because mouth is gave to speak not to hear. >.<
okay thats all i can say, sorry if my post isnt satisfying..

have a GREAT day PUAN ZUE!

then, the importance of speak up is to show others that you have self confidence.thus,it will make it easier for others to follow your opinion as they see you confident enough.
when you speak up,you also can show your leadership to others.this can help you get much support for you to present your opinion.

Dear Mdm Zue,
As I entered UNITEN, I realize that I’m in de world of university, and should be thinking more than out of de box. And yes, everyone says that we’re not supposed to be shy to speak up our mind. But sometimes I do feel shy and nervous while trying to speak up. I do afraid that people disagree about what I’m trying to say. But that was me in high school. Now, I don’t want to be that kinda person anymore, I want to be as competitive as others. My teacher once said that we’re supposed to be in line with the globalization of the world. Though there are so many obstacles, we have to fight if we want to be a successful person. Thank you.

Assalamualaikum Pn. Zue,

I agree with what Pn. Zue and others mention in this post. Many benefits that can we get when we speak up such as it can improve our self confidence, don't have any problems to communicate with others and we have to speak up to share our ideas and opinions. Nowadays, many of us are afraid and shy to speak up because of other people commenting and critics their ideas. Thus, for our own sake and right, we need to speak up especially in front of public.

Thank you.

First off,i would like to apologize to Madam Zue for the late response.

Frankly, this very first post of the blog is an interesting topic to discuss indeed.Blogging, for example, is a platform for the readers to speak up and express opinions, just like the name of this awesome blog,Speak Up Avenue.

According to the Wikipedia, speak up means to speak without fear, hesitation, and loud enough to be audible. So,what's holding us back from speaking up?Why is it so hard for us to open our mouths and speak?Shyness,Lack of self-confidence,afraid of rejection and critics, are some of the main factors that leads to fear of speaking up.There are only number of people who have the guts to speak up,express their feelings and share what's on their mind.

As mentioned by the above commentators,i am absolutely agree by the fact that we are still afraid to speak up.We keep the idea to ourself, and tends to follow the opinion of others. We feel comfortable this way and it has become a part of our daily life.

Everyone is different and unique from one another. As a result,we may have different thoughts and opinion on certain issues,so it is very important that each of us convey thoughts and opinions.

Communication skill is vital for our career in the near future. An excellent grades won't ensure us that we will get a good job.We have to be well equipped. If not,we will always be one step behind.

We are the young leaders of tomorrow. We should overcome this fear so that we are able to express our thoughts and opinions and speak our minds.Dont bother about the critics, just speak up and let your voice be heard once and for all.

Speaking is actually the best way to bring out our piece of mind.By speaking we actually let people know about our own thoughts on certain issues.Being unable to speak up to someone is actually very normal, especially to the people who are new to us.The fact is that we have to push ourselves to do it so that we can actually get use to such situation. When we are communicating with people we should also take part in the conversation and try to speak up to let them know about our own feelings or ideas on the particular matter as it could make the conversation more interesting. This is way better rather than letting only one person to do the talking and the other to just listen. As a student,it is important to speak up with others as it will bring up our confidence level. For example, doing public speaking in front of a group of student and the lecturer will actually boost our confidence level higher as we gain attention from others and people listens to our opinion which they might consider it as a relevant statement. This will only take place if we give it a try.It does not matter if we make mistake during the speaking as long as we try our best to do it and learn something new out of it that could be useful in future. We should all take a good chance to express ourselves through speaking as it would definitely help us in many ways.

I absolutely concur with everything Puan Zue said. Speaking up or speaking your mind is beyond doubt crucial in our daily lives, as it portrays a distinctive insight from an individual. In other words, it is a proficient way to convey one’s thoughts and ideas. Everyone possesses a voice of their own that requires respect from others. It doesn’t matter whether an individual is suffering from speech disorders such as stuttering or even muteness, he or she can speak up by writing their own opinions. Speaking up is also a way to boost self confidence. For example, a reserved person can enhance his or her confidence by speaking up by the means of public speaking or even giving out his or comments in a forum/blog. In addition, speaking up is a good approach towards leadership. Communication is one of the fundamental factors of leadership. Communication comes with speaking up. For example, the 44th President of the United States moderately gained his presidency title just by his ability to speak up in such fluency. As a conclusion, speaking up is a truly significant as it can boost one’s confidence and bring about leadership and it is simply a wonderful tool in life.

Speaking up is the way where we want to share our ideas to others. But it is a fact that nowadays, peoples especially students are fail to try speak up although they're actually have extremely brilliant ideas to share. This is due to because they don't have self believe. They might think that his/her ideas are not acceptable by others. Furthermore, they think that the ideas from other peoples are the best rather than his/her own ideas. So as a student we must belief to ourself to speak up because we are actually have the ability to do that. Who knows in one day we can be a well-known public speaker in our country. Besides that, by speaking up we can improve our language skills and peoples around us will proud and respect to us. As a conclusion, don't be shy to speak up. Shows that we can doing that without any nervous feeling. By speaking up we actually can improve our communication skills as well as can improve our self-actualization.

I agree that speaking up is important, because it is the most common and favorite way for humans in general to convey their thought and ideas to others. But most people nowadays freeze up at the thought of giving their opinions, because they doubt their own ability to deliver their ideas and is scared of being marked as a failure by his or her audience. What they must realize is that mistakes and disagreement with our own idea is bound to happen and the only thing that can be done is to learn from it to improve our self. Rome wasn't build in a day and so does the skill to speak up for our self, so there is nothing to be worried about because everyone starts from the same level and the only difference is how hard you work to improve your skills. In conclusion to speak up you must start somewhere, so why not do it as soon as you can, because its all for the improvement of your own skills.

good morning Mrs Zue

Speaking is something that allows us to share our views with others , but most of us feel shy to speak in front of our friends also . Many of us didnt realised that it is a way of expressing ourself to others . What we should know is that nowdays many of us are getting more open-minded to new ideas and information . Keeping our ideas to our self nowdays is making us to be critised by the people beside us .When u tell ur ideas or information to others without feeling shy , we can at least improve ourself more in this competitive world . One of the way we can talk without feeling shy is that we must always tell our ideas or information to the person who builds confidence and trust in ourself . This can be done when we only trust person who is capable of sharing our ideas . Once Dr.Abdul Kalam said in one of his interview that feeling shy is enough to pull a man or a women down ! At last when we are ready to speak in front of others .....let us make sure that our voice is going to rock and roll !

Generally, we all know that speaking up can give us many benefits. Most importantly, speaking up can boost our confidence level. For an example, we have to be brave to stand in front of the audience to convey our ideas clearly and try to control our nervous. This confidence level can only increase if we try to speak up and may keep increasing as we practice it regularly. Don't bother about others as they are also a learner such we are. Try to speak up and share our opinion because it might be a new thing to the audience. Lastly, speaking up is an important thing in our life so we have to open our mouth and SPEAK UP!

For most of us speaking up is something which is very difficult.WE are usually very concerned about what others may think about our ideas.By keeping the ideas to ourselves we are not going to gain anything, therefore we should start giving our opinions.Speaking up makes us feel better about ourselves,we wont feel as if we are left out in a particular conversation.Speaking up also helps us to improve our self confidence and self esteem, therefore we should stop keeping our ideas to ourselves and let it out so that everyone can listen to what we have in our mind.

Not everyone seem to have an innate ability to connect with the others in spontaneous way. Some people rather to silent than to speak. Why do we need to speaking up?? Speak is the general way to communicate efficiently. Some use text or symbols to communicate, but its hard to understand and to explain sometimes. So with speaking we can recieved, understand, gathered the info's easily. Besides, speaking can shows personalities, attitudes, and behavior of someone. Next, speaking makes someone more confident. Others, we can share some opinion, ideas and perspective. No doubt, speak up is the wises way to communicate..

There is no doubt that public speaking is important. It sad that , most of our people most likely prefer do not share ideas and afraid to speak in front of public. They should be acquired that skill , it because we have in our daily life to used it in school , university , work place and even political .It also contribute of deep knowledge to audience . That is why ,during our elementary school teacher asked you to come front of the class to read aloud as you can . I know, I know, I know, majority of people usually get cold feet when their speak in front of thousand of audience , is natural OK .
Other than that, people nowadays are bright .However , some of them are too shy to speak. That individual have to speak at public . Who knows maybe his/her speech very eye opener , plus it can gain charismatic instead of zero. I got tip to improve speaking in front public :
• Motivate yourself
• Take opportunity to speak at public
• Lastly ,my advise “ just do it!”
If you practice this advise you might have potential public speaker . Well ,I jus that it .no more left for me to say . Before I out of this , remember this “the word is power…..” and~ I very sorry I got carry away .

We are the future of tomorrow Therefore the only way that humans can communicate effectively would be when an individual speaks their mind. Voicing out ones opinion can be judged accordingly, it varies across cultures which also deals with the aspect of gender, and it can be seen to rude and unethical in some cases. Taking the Indian culture for example, traditionally women were being challenged because women in Indian society were deemed to be of lower cast than men, speaking their minds was a taboo. however as the world evolved, and with modernization, women are now very confident and speaks their mind. it is important for any individual to speak their mind because it allows for inner feelings to be expressed. Verbal communication plays an important role when communicating as it allows direct meaning to be conveyed. Non-verbal cues plays a greater part aswell, but verbal communication tends to persuade the audience with the speakers opinion. another example to illustrate the perfect example as to why should an individual should speak up would be: Before any laws are passed in any country or any rule for that matter, there are a panel of juries or people that voice out their opinions, and debate over it, in order to get a complete perspective of a subject matter. therefore in many areas of life, public opinion is important. That's all from my part from now. Thanks

In this era of technology and IT, some people still have a wrong perspective that there is no need to speak up. Somehow they believe that they are able to succeed without having the need to speak up. Little do they realise, speaking up is as important as attaining an A+ in a subject !
A very good morning Pn. Zue. Speaking up is essential as a platform to grow new ideas, and to influence others. By voicing out our ideas, people get to learn about our ideas. As they listen to our ideas, they relate our ideas with their knowledge and experience, and eventually, they tend to respond or even criticise to our ideas. Through this criticism and opinions, we tend to develop our ideas even more, thus increasing the possibilities of generating improved ideas.Besides that, a person who speaks up, is able to convince others. For example, when two ideas are presented, people are more convinced with an idea that is well presented orally, compared to the idea that just has a normal presentation.A good speaker who knows to deliver the right tone, will surely have the upper hand when opposing a "nerd". Speaking up is a unique ability that can help us in many ways. We should break the shyness barrier and face the world, to speak up !

The gift of speech is not something that should be underestimated. Hence, it is very unfortunate that many people choose not to speak out, preferring to prowl in the background instead. They do not appreciate the power of a good speech. A good public speaker can garner support as well as gain the attention of multitudes of people. Therefore, it is very useful in the arsenal of a leader such as a president I obtained a profound understanding of the significance of speech after watching "The King's Speech". It is a wonderful movie about an English king who ascended the throne at the beginning of the Second World War.

I agree that everyone of us have to practice to speak up what’s in our mind. Speak up for ourselves not only allow us to express our idea or opinion, at the same time it also can provide suggestion for other people. Besides that, speak up also can help us communicate better with the people around us. If we are always shy and don’t speak up our mind. People won’t be able to understand what we thinking. Speak up is important, especially in our work place. As a worker, we always have to speak up to express our idea or opinion in meeting or during discussion. Imagine, will a boss hire a worker that always shy and do not speak up? As a conclusion, we have to start practice speak up even when we are still studying. As i mention above, speak up is something which are very challenging, its because we need to use the correct way to deliver the idea to other people so that they can understand us more easily. Besides its also a challenging task to speak infront of many people and its normal to feel nervous. I believe alot of unexperience speakers, which also include me will encounter with nervousness. But, through practice we can gain more confident in speaking ,thus we can overcome the nervousness. Last but not least, speak up is important as we are able to train our self to speak and it will be very useful in the future =)

why do we have a mouth??Its not just for eating and breathing but its also for us to share our thoughts to the world..

Well , what would it be when the world is in silent mode because we don't speak up?Though silence is golden but it sure would be dreadful enough. That's why you have this blog too right? To speak of our thoughts to everyone.

Why do you need to speak up?The answer is simple enough , cause you have to.When we are in a conversation with our friends , we are constantly generating ideas and opinions.Furthermore , we might agree or disagree with what our friends' opinion. This is what a fun conversation is all about. You might be doing it right now.Even a casual conversations with your buddies means u are speaking up your ideas. As such when you are debating with your friends on which fast food chain you should visit.

"Hey i think McD are great..they are cheap and their burgers are super",

"You gotta be kidding me , their burgers are the worst!!let's go for
pizza huts ".

SEE?You are doing it unknowingly.Plus it's really important for us to speak up our ideas because their is lots of benifit to it.And yes Puan Zue , i agree with you that speaking up is part of persuasive communication because without contributing any ideas , how on earth the people is going to be convinced?unless of course if you are the boss *haha*

So as an engineer , it is vital to be able to speak up our ideas to our superior. To be able to present our ideas in front of a crowd is really one of the major advantage in the working life..

Hence comes to my conclusion that speaking up our ideas is part and parcel of our life. The only things that differs is that we should be more confident when we speak up either it is correct or wrong.

Thank you

see?i just spoke up my opinion through this post...haha

"speak up your mind" is a sentence that i always hear from teachers, lecturers and friends. why do we need to speak up? a great post it is Pn Zue. i really like it.so, actually there are several factors that avoid us, Malaysian to go and speak in front of the audience even just 5 people there. firstly, shyness. maybe for some people, what is the big deal of being shy but for some people, it does really matter. although speak up can ensure people to support u, it can also turn the other way round. for example, how if u come in front of 40 people and suddenly u lost all your points. a natural speaker may have the ability to impress audience by just saying anything but if u r not, it is apocalypse for u. malaysian attitude especially not to encourage their friends but to mock them instead.
well, other than that, it maybe because of lack of confidence and others but confidence can be build but shyness is hard to overcome.
i think that is all for my opinion.
see ya Pn Zue

God created us for a reason, He created us with ears to hear, nose to smell, eyes to see, and a mouth to Talk!

With this amazing creation of God for us humans, speaking up is just a simple thing in life. Yet, many still hide their abilities.

Just imagine a world of silence
...........
dull right?
This is the reason students have to speak up their thoughts.
With this growing world filled with itels, techs and computers...Information are there just with a click of a button.
My point is, what is the use of having so much knowledge in our brains and not share it with others??
Pointless.

This is why speaking up is so important in this modern era.
Top gainers don't use their hands to work. Billionaires are known for their words and ability to persuade people.
The saying goes; words are more powerful then actions. And it's true.
Looking to the future...are you going to use your hands to work all your life?
The answer is clearly NO. The power of the tongue is so important even as age nears death, the words spoken by an elder comes great wisdom.

As most of my fellow peers have said, that shyness and lack of confidence are the 2 main factors that blocks off a person's to speak up. I strongly disagree.
In our every day life, speaking up is just too common.
Even by asking a stranger for the time is consider as speaking up.
So what is the problem?

The problem arise when speaking up is done in a wrong manner. Or in other words the "Malaysian style"
Manglish is just everywhere nowadays. Speaking up in the wrong way affects others.
Some take speaking up as a way to bring a person down when he says something wrong.
There is actually no wrong or right in speaking up. That is just an opinion by someone. The idea could be wrong, and it can be corrected by others. This encourage others to speak up their opinions too :D
How awesome is that?

That's why Speaking Up is a everyday thing to do and it's infectious!
People shouldn't look down on themselves and be afraid that their ideas will be rejected by others. Speaking up is fun but not so fun if it's brought to the extreme xD.

So for me not to reach the extreme point, I end my long comment here by saying
"We learn to speak by speaking".

TQ.

communication is very important in our daily life.as we can see in our urban life, speak up is very important as we can see we r using email, sms, calling 4 connecting to one another.but seems that all this accomodation that make our life easy make our ability to speak goes down.here i want to express how important it is 4 us to speak up.
why do we need to speak up?first,to express our own idea.this is so true that actually we are shy and lack of confident.we need to speak up because we want to share ideas among friends and family.if we didnt tell them, how could they know how we are feeling about sumthing wether we like it or not.so expressing ideas help them to understand us well as well as to know what we like and we dont.there is also some phrases related to this title,a malay's said that 'rambut sama hitam hati lain lain'.this shows that speaking up is really important and this also show and prove that if u dont tell the people how u feel, they wouldnt know and if u darg this all the time,u will be left.
secondly, the reason why we need to speak up is because it will grow the confident level in ourselves.by practising speak up will enchance our confident level to the next step.this is important because now days in malaysia,it is not easy to get a job.having a good grades will only secure for the interviews only.if u wanna get the job,you must know how to tackle your employers.to do that, you must know how to sell yourself to get the job,its mean that how well u speak and how good you are on that job.so, all this back to basic that is speak up.
in conlusion, speaking up is very very important in our life especially in this urban life.everything that we doo now required us to speak up our ideas and how we feel.as we know, speak up is hard but by practising alot we will able to overcome the problems.

Thanks

Leaders, not-leaders, employer, employee, teachers and students. In short, all forms of life from the species of homosapien give speeches. From the moment you utter your first word, you are destined to use that ability to good use.
"With great power, comes great responsibility". Of course, this saying applies not only to exceptional abilities, the ability to give a speech included.

Good evening, Pn Zue. First and foremost, forgive me for my probably jumbled-up comment. This is mainly a ranting of my mind. With that, let's move on to the topic at hand...er at mind.

A speech is defined as
"the act of speaking; expression or communication of thoughts and feelings by spoken words"

- definition from http://www.yourdictionary.com/speech -
Therefore, a speech is meant to inform the audience and contains meaningful and useful messages . However, it dawned on me that not all speeches are meaningful. So, when is a speech meaningful and hence, a good speech ?

For me, a speech is only meaningful when it has proven values in it. That is it has INFORMATION not MISINFORMATION. Anyone can talk for hours on end but still don't pass any meaningful message. In that case, that person can be related to an empty can. It makes a lot of loud noise but the sound only serves as an annoyment, quite similar to the annoying buzzing sound of the beating wings of a fly. In other words what he said is, frankly , bullshit .

A speech is also valuable when the message(s) it conveyed can be practiced in reality. If the speaker preaches something, it is hoped that he himself can follow what he said. For example, if he said that we should lead eco-friendly lifestyle, then he should also be able to lead an eco-friendly lifestyle. Otherwise, he is a hypocrite. To sum it up his speech would be " all bark but no bite ".

To conclude, a meaningful speech should contain useful information, not misinformation, and the speaker conveying it should give it with sincerity. A speech shouldn't be misleading. Although it is true that speech moved people, sometimes being silent brings greater impact.
Therefore, if you have no good contribution to give, you should hold your silence. As the saying goes, " Speech is silver, silence is golden".

Thank you.

P.S (not Playstation, mind you)

Critics and comments are welcomed.
Seriously, please give me some feedback....

When I was in form 5, what I knew about speech is about preparing a few pages of essay, go on the stage and read out the essay word by word. That's what my secondary school teacher did every time. Well, at that time I was still thinking, "It looks real easy to prepare everything and then just read it out." Even I myself would do the same thing when I deliver my speech in Installation of Uniform Group. My mind changed after I took ENGF. What I’ve been learning is that everything has to be done on the spot, and we can talk about anything that is related. Yes, maybe this sounds easier than the previous method, since it doesn't have any limited scope. To me, all the ways to deliver a speech are the same. The most important thing is that people can understand what we are trying to express.
Why do you need to speak up? Most of the people will think that speaking up is to let others know what I’m thinking. Correct! When we’re lost, we have to ask people for directions. When we face any problem, we have to ask for help. Anything we do in life is related with "speaking up", this two words. Try and think when you want to ask people something, would you talk to them straight away or would you write a sentence on a piece paper and pass it to that person? It sounds stupid right?
Besides, we can learn many new things through speaking up. Books can't provide us all the information in the world. What we have to do is, ask and ask and ask, speak and speak and speak. If Mr. A cannot give us an accurate answer, then we go for Mr. B. If Mr. B still can't give a reply then we go for C and so on. What I want to say is if you want to get new knowledge, new experiences or a chance for a competition, then we must speak up! Of course this is not the only method, but is the best method! Now you know why we need to speak up? Yeah~

I agree that we need to speak up not only in debating and discussion but also conversation.
For example, we have to share our ideals and thought during a meeting. As we know, all kind of things that we need to speak up, can consider a small part of communication skills.

We have to practice this important skill to make our life easy.

Nowadays, there was a negative phenomenon that some student after completing their degree they also cannot speak well during interview session. This is because they are too shy to speak up and also scare to face their weakness.

No matter how, we should try our best. Good better best, never let it rest. Until your good becomes better, better becomes best. How far we can go depend on where is our destiny.

Speak up your thoughts. A easy thing to do despite the fact that, I, myself really struggle with it since young. Shy and stage fright is the obvious problem. However, of all the thought backward, I felt that I really missed out the importance of it.

There are a lot of advantages from speaking up. One of it is that it generates critical analyzing and thinking skill. This skill ensure yourself to think fast to ensure you can talk fluently in front of others which means you must get the words you going to use first before you spill out your words. This is when you must really brainstorm and squeeze everything out of your brain to the max.

Next, speak up to the others of your ideas. This can let others to view the your ideas from your very own perspective, which give others another dimension of view on the same subject. This is where you sell yourself in employability, giving yourself a bizarre outlook and people would definitely notice you. As for example, you as a salesman would like to sell off your product, you need to be different and better than others to captures buyer interest. In addition, you as an engineer, and you have a really good opinion on this particular subject, speaking up is definitely the best way to promote your opinion to the world. At the same time, you must be 100% confident of your opinion that is very objective and you must be very convincing and tackle every critics that comes in destroying your opinion. In other word, you must brainwash them, the world.

In a nutshell, benefits from speaking up is clearly undeniable. I hope that Malaysian and myself could promote a better development of English learning starting now onwards to ensure a better speaking in English. There and then, just make English another international language in Malaysia so that everybody can speak up!

I totally agree your opinion, speak up can train our communicate skills and improve our language. But it's a challenge to me especially English around the people and in front the crowd.

For a speaker lack of speaking experience, they were felt nervously and tremble as they standing in front of the crowd to share their opinion. So we need to do practice more and more, because it can gain our confident to speak whatever we want to share and what we want to remind them.

In short, speak up will create an opportunity to us to share the idea with others in every area.No matter in a presentation or our profession in the future,as long as we are show our confident and trust us can do it.I think it will be more easily to handle it.So don't afraid just tell it what u know.Because speak up is more useful in the future and in our life.

I totally agree with you, Pn.Zue. For me, I really think that is a must for each and every of us to voice up our opinion. Some people would just keep quiet and expect others to guess what they are thinking. If they are in trouble, they will expect the people around them to notice them and understand them. Question is, how would people know that you are having problem if you never share and tell the others. But, do speak only at the right time and speak the right things. If not, you might insult or annoyed the others.

It is important to speak up as it actually help us to present our ideas and our thought. Speak up is always an important interaction between 2 or more person, and it can bulk up our confidence and our communication skills. Communication skills is always very essential no matter where we are. The only way to have people agree or approbate with you is SPEAK UP. As my mother always told me, 'if you don't speak up, how people going to know what are u thinking and what you desire?' I strongly agree with my mother, and try to think if u don't actually speak up how you going to present your cogitation? For an example, if you are the 1 giving an interview to several people, will you choose a person that can speak up confidently or choose a person that is shy and don't feel like want to talk? Of course you will choose the person who can speak up. Altough It is quite difficult for those people who seldom talk to speak up, practice always make perfect and it is always better to try than didn't even put any effort. So, let's SPEAK UP!!

"Why do you Need to Speak up?"
Hmm.. Why do we NOT need to speak up? This community is becoming more and more competitive. We can find almost one 'streetful' of degree holders without any job. Why is this happening? One of the main reason is, they do not know how to speak up their ideas and show out how capable they are during the interview section in any company.

This is MALAYSIA. A country which is improving bit by bit. If we still continue in conforming the others, the 'capables' in our country will somehow extinct in someday, I believe.

I strongly feel that speaking up one's own idea no matter in what situations is a MUST. Before feeling shy not to speak out own's idea, ask yourself, "Why I not need to speak up? Is my opinion that bad?"

Good evening Puan Zue,

“Speak up” is a very complex term that people find hard to understand.People tend to forget that everyone’s opinion matters and that it is very important that everyone has the courage to stand up and speak up their thoughts in a very graceful manner.People always use the term penny for your thoughts but do they actually really understand this proverb?.

My fellow friends and Puan Zue,we need to speak up because it will indirectly increase the confidence in ourselves and nurture us to become a profound public speaker. We should understand that by speaking up,we will always feel comfortable in our daily speech and we will never ever hesitate to provide our ideas too in a particular discussion.

Speaking up can also allow us to argue and debate with others which will expand the way we think or in other words help us to think out of the box and not only follow the thoughts of other intellectual minds.

God gave us the greatest gift in the world which is the human mind,it is so complex that we ourselves can’t even crack it’s contents. So my fellow comrades and Puan Zue,this is why I strongly agree that everyone should learn how to speak up for it will bring about a lot greatness not only to themselves but to society too.

Thank you Puan Zue for you time,

Your’s sincerely,

i remembered once when i was doing group discussions with some new friends, back when i participated in a 'what career suits you' motivational program .it's to determine which career you are suitable with our thinking and skills.the facilitators asked us to build a tower from straws.frankly, all my group members could come up with any ideas.but,i had a few of my own.so,i realized that our group did not have started any progress on the tower,so i spoke up.i told them about building the base wide for balance, make a thick pole in the middle for strength.shockingly, they all agreed and we build our great and tall tower.at the end of the day,we were nominated as the best tower builder.what i am trying to say is,its no use keeping your ideas to yourself, but let the whole world know about it.surely, you'll end up just fine.

i would like to share a little piece of advice.don't be friendly,be approachable,don't be memorable,be unforgettable,and don't just be a some guy,be 'that' guy.as a results,you will make an improvement to yourself.

till next time.

"Speaking up" is a platform for us to express our feelings and opinions. People around us are not mind readers. We cannot expect all of them to know what's in our mind, so speaking up is a basis of communication. By sharing our opinions and thoughts with others, they will know better about us. Besides that, by speaking up we are able to exchange our thoughts and ideas with others and we will have a greater opportunity to learn new things from other people. We should always take the chance to talk in public as it can enhance our confidence too. As we know, confidence is the most important aspect in doing our work, so by speaking up frequently we can strengthen our confidence and thus eliminate our nervousness when we are required to do so. Although it is easier said then done, we must try to talk whenever possible to improve our speaking skills.

Why do we need to speak up?
Assalamualaikum Pn Zue..
Every student can enjoy speaking English in real life situations such as in cafes over a coffee or tea, in cinemas discussing a film just seen or walking around a city. But they are afraid to speak up in front of the public.Obviously, they do not know about the pleasure and benefits of speak up. Here,i want to tell about the advantages to speak up.First of all, taking part in Speak Up classes or what actually provide a safe environment for students to challenge themselves without feeling embarrassed or afraid of making a mistake. Drama games and improvisation are fun activities that allow students to stand up and present themselves without the pressure and hype of a “performance.”In other words, increase their self-confidence.Other than that,we need to speak up because it is one of the first step to improve communication skills. This is because, when we participate in any speak up competition or any speech,we are actually train our vocal as well as we practice for eye contact ,concentration and listening skills.Last but not least, the important of speak up is it is good for one’s creativity. This because, when we speak up with our own idea, others can actually make a comment on our ideas.Maybe, later our ideas can become a vital to them. For an instance, every employer today requires their prospective employees to be well educated. Thus, knowledge and courage to speak up become an eligibility criteria of employment of any sector of industry. In a nut shell, lets we make an attempt to speak up!
Thank you.

Speaking up is the best way to express your thoughts, opinions and ideas to the public. As we learn to speak up in public, we’ll improve our social skills gradually. Since social skills play a vital role in our university and career life, it is crucial for us to continue speaking and express our thoughts with everyone. If we afraid to do so because of less confident and shyness, one day it would be late for us improve ourselves and there is no point regretting. So, it best for us not to miss any opportunities to speak up.For example in class discussion, society club meeting and more. Incase some people may criticize our idea, take it as an advice and try to improve it rather than give up on it.If you give up that time, you’ll lose your confident to even stand up next time. In short, Malaysia is a free country, so start speaking up by sharing your ideas and thoughts to improve and help our country to achieve 2020 vision.

Greetings Pn. Zue,

Expressing feelings, thoughts and opinion were the first few things that popped to my mind after seeing the title. Kept feelings, especially those of hurt, sadness and hatred would eventually kill ones heart or even self if it's not released. Of ways to release is to speak up.

Besides that, speaking plays a heavy role in our lives. Speaking helps communicate with people, which consists of your friends, co-workers, staffs and as well family members. It enables us to relate with one another on various topics which boosts friendships and bonding for one another. In other words, it promotes good social life.

That's just my point of view of speaking in normal social terms. But, when it comes to speaking out loud, like public speaking or debates, it becomes a total different thing. Many things comes into consideration when coming up front. Your posture, hand gesture, dressing, and most importantly, your attention getter. A good attention getter plays a solid role in drawing the interest of the audience. If you produce a weak attention getter, you've already lost the interest of the floor.

In addition, speaking up allows one to enhance their critical thinking, fluency and maturity of thought. These are essential when facing the working world. Good language guarantees you a place in life. For instance, Hitler, he manage to brainwash whole of germany to genocide all of jewish people. See how powerful words are?

In short, speaking up is a good practice which should be integrated into our life.

Thank You,
Andy Low

"why do we need to speak up?"

i strongly agree that "human learn how to speak through speaking"
we have to live our life by communicating with each other in this one big society. we share our thoughts, interest, even complains just through words. even we can communicate to each other with signs and symbols, but just with our mouth that speak, we can give pieces of our minds to others "effectively".

eventhough words are powerful, they are so powerful that can mislead others. so this is why we have to learn how to speak with intelligence or wisdom, to make others grasp our thoughts more easily and "vivid".

personally, i think that even knocking on the keys of keyboard, behind this humongous world spread interweb, leaving a comment on this blog, can give ourselves ample opportunity to build up "thoughts sharing" skills.

but, those are still something we do anonymously. through public speaking, we can learn how share our knowledge, experiences with the "actual public". This may need a lots of confidence. so this is why we need more experience with this. so to ensure that, in the future, we can speak up our mind or even leading a nation with just a microphone.

Speak up means give out your idea, thoughts or what you thinking in front of others. It's not an easy job to speak up. I know it because I myself had gone through it before. The first time I speak up in front of the class, I had stage fright and lack of confident. For my experience, if you want to conquer these problems, all you need to do is just pracitce, practice and practice. 'Practice makes perfect' agree?

If you are good in speaking up in front of the others, it helps you a lot in future, like you can make more friends, promote your idea, and doing well during interview.

In short, speaking up benefits us a lot especially when you speak in English. Consequently, guys let speak up together :)

opinions or suggestions are important since we are in diplomatic country.how do the government or the management committee to know what their people wants..the answer is "just voice it out".

just imagine that..... your followers one day make a demonstration on the street or maybe in front of your working place..and you relies that they are not voice their thoughts..

what do you feel about that?if you the government, you must be angry, right?

that is why we need to speak up..its for everyone good-sack.so that it will be no miss communication and demonstration perhaps.

the main problem why people afraid to speak up is the presence of virtual barrier or i think it is shyness.
how to overcome it?try to break through the barrier by practice to speak.as my teacher in my formal high school, she put a stool along the pavement where anybody can sit on and start to talk about anything.it is called 'speakers Conner'.it is a good start before we speak in front of hundreds of citizens or maybe thousands and millions.

all in all.bare in mind that Rome is not built in one day.so start to speak from now and ever.until you become a pro

Why do we need to speak up?
In my opinion, speak up is the best way for us to share and gain knowledge.
Different people would have different way of thinking and ideas. So, by speaking up we actually give our opinion and sometimes it may be useful knowledge for others. Just image what would happen to the world if everyone says nothing all the times. Our life would be bored, full of sadness, stress and life could become more complicated as no interactions and inventions. Speak up makes our life more wonderful, interesting, challenging, and comfortable. It also helps us to escalate self-confidence and develops one’s personalities. Isn’t that great?
Everywhere we go, we should be able to speak up and to stand for our rights. For example, when we are not satisfied of something, we would like to complain and this needs us to speak up. When we want to express our love to someone, we need to speak up.
As a conclusion here, speak up is important for us in order to survive. Therefore, we should start to speak up and if it is difficult for us to do so, take it as a challenge.
Thank you.

There may be a number of factors that inspires some one to speak up and have his own voice of opinion. First and foremost, the individuals are motivated by their parents indirectly throughout their way of living. Frequent and commodious duologue between child and parents is such a way that builds the transparency of the young child in communicating to the environment with decent and excellent. Therefore, as much as the importance of speaking up, the skill of speaking up grows with age. Because the parents play their role. Another building block of the matter, is commitment of the trainer itself. Frankly speaking, there are many parents in Malaysia that does not help much in designing their children's public speaking character. Thus this situation falls into the role of the trainer to assist ones speaking ability. Public speaking is never a gift, it is a skill, to be taught and learnt. So, the trainer must be creative in nurturing the ability and potential of one in public speaking. Due to importance of public speaking, one would have always taught by real experience. Experience is the best teacher, it inspires one to be more careful not to repeat the same mistake and how to improve in such way.

As humans, we need to speak up our mind or to express our thoughts between one another. It is important to speak up because, without doing so, we cant deliver our very own unique thoughts to other people, they may not understand who we are, our opinions on a specific issue, our characters, thus, sometimes we can mislead people even without saying a word. Speaking up is the very basis of communication itself. There are some unfortunate people who cannot speak, maybe due to physical limitations. However, they do not let that limit refrain them from sharing up their thought and socializing. They use hand signs and even writings to communicate with other people. With this example, I believe that it is important to communicate by voicing out our minds. If we do not communicate, I think it is very hard to make friends and easy to isolate own self from the others. I don't believe life will be easy without friends and if we don't speak up. More than that, when speaking up has become a necessary requirement especially during jobs, those who don't speak up will only be a burden to others. Since if we don't speak up, it is hard to promote teamwork, mutual understanding and such. We are not humans who have powers such as telepathy like in the fictional stories. Therefore, if we don't speak up, we cannot expect others to understand our thoughts. When there is a disagreement, or even a problem, through speaking up, we can bring out the issue and try to achieve understanding with others instead of hiding it. However, I agree with others that words are powerful and there is a saying that words are sharper than knives, hence we need to speak up but with wisdom.
In short, speaking up is important. It will be very hard if we don't speak up and become a loner.

I guess, we all need to voice our opinions once in awhile.

It's hard in Malaysia because it's so competitive among students, Everyone wants to be at the top and ahead of others. Yet, because of that, if it's not you up there, you tend to boo the person down or be judgemental.

It's human nature to have the want to be recognized and acknowledged. It's the need to socialize, to swim and drown in compliments, to indulge yourself in the delights of the limelight. But the truth is, the only way to do out. Is to voice out and speak up.

To be fair, i'm not going to limit "speaking up" to just speeches and talking. Some people express their thoughts through dancing, singing, actions, and for the mute, through sign languages. A petition signed by millions, is proof that millions are not pleased, no u don't see millions screaming their thoughts. One simple signature is enough to tell the people. I'm voicing out against (so and so).

So yes, it's important to speak up, simply cause we're humans and living in this world

Yes puan zue, speaking up is a vital way of making people acknowledging us. People have to stand up for themselves. You have to prepare yourself not only for today, but for the upcoming challenging world too. We might be having some difficulties in implying the technics on the way the speak up. But nothing's imposibble right? I know the are so many boundaries we have to face nowadays. And people do get stuck up in the middle of nowhere sometimes. But its the attitude that we require most. Dont be scare to do it. By speaking in front of others, you can build your self esteem to the most. That's crucial because in future, when youre going to interview for a job, you know that youre nervous and shaky as well as that is normal feeling for everyone. But you have to remember that you're confident and believe in yourself that you can do it. Hence, we really have need to speak up because it brings us a lot of advantages not only for an instant impact, but the future too. Dont be scare, just give it a try and you'll see how great life could be

Hello again Pn.Zue

Every voice has the right to be heard even the ones we don't agree with. It's really true that we can share our opinion, thoughts, or even idea to everyone without any sensitive matter to be carried out. There is a limit of talking the matter but not the voice! Few of them feel that even if he tell his idea ,he might think that "will they accept mine"? that's a common thing. But we shouldn't lose our rights to speak up whenever the time arrives.
However there are few voices in our mind will be act negatively and make us to think about our weakness. For an example, fear the most common, shyness as usual, lack of knowledge due to unconscious bout current issues , and maybe lack of confident about what to say. Things like this really have to be cleared out so that we can speak out with some fresh and bright ideas to the point. As people said fresh makes people get fonder to it. New things and thoughts always get attention by anyone for sure.
Therefore,to be a good speaker we must clear those doubts and weakness. In this way we can speak up with something sensible and acceptable by any mankind.
tq ma'am.

It is true and I am extremely agree with it. It is difficult to start to speak at first but by having the confidence to speak and people will know what your idea is and what you want to talk about. When you speak up to drive out your idea to other people, you also can exchange idea with them. Do not stingy in anything that related to knowledge, because from here whatever your thought and others people thought is very important in transferring knowledge.

Every speech you do is a persuasive speech. Whatever the type of speaking you're doing, entertaining, informative, sales presentations, training lectures and workshops - your aim is normally to influence the audience in some way.

hi Pn Zue

when we speak up, we share our different views and ideas but not everyone can share their opinions with others. its really hard to express it. maybe because of shyness or maybe their afraid to hear others comment toward the idea.

and now im face the same thing. hard to express and share what i think about. maybe because im not fluent in English and shame to share the idea but it's true when we speak up, people know who we really are and with the ideas that we point that really make others know.

so, for me everyone need to speak up no matter how hard it is. we learn slowly and the end we can speaking up well enough and let the voice be heard. =)

Speak up? No way, this is the first thing that i will tell everyone when they try to ask me talk in front of public, but i am pretty sure that i can talk non stop among my friends. It is harder when need to speak up in English. Anyway, i know that speaking up is very important in our life, our journey. We must give out our own opinions, views and ideas in order to getting success. In my own opinion, i think that in order to lead a team, group, or even a company, we must be able to share, accept, or even reject the ideas given out by others. So, WE NEED TO SPEAK UP ^^

Hi Pn Zue..its me Chiam, sorry for the late reply..God has created us by giving us a mouth which to use to eat and talk and speak up for ourself.Unfortunately, human always use their mouth to talk nonsense, backstab or curse other people and when come to speak up either for persentation or about human rights, these people often chicken out..One most important part of speak up is feeling that you have a “voice” that you have the right to be listened to and heard in a way that helps you have some control over what happens in your life. When you can speak up and stand up for yourself, you are, in effect, saying to yourself and the world, “I am a significant person whose ideas and words are worthy of respect.”The ability to clearly and assertively communicate ideas, needs and wants also helps
people build and maintain strong personal relationships. It helps you get what you need in various situations and can also protect you from being taken advantage of by others. Therefore, being able to speak up and stand up for yourself are very important life skills.Speak up also help to clear our doubt, for example when we are having problem in solving certain question or even homework,we should not be shy and scare what other people think of us by asking question to teachers or lecturer.Chinese proverb once said :“A person who asks a question is a fool for five minutes, a person who doesn’t is a fool forever.” So in my opinion,if speak up really bring advantages to us,Why not we just be brave to speak up and speak out?Thank you.

WHY DO WE HAVE TO SPEAK UP ???
This is an important issue that should be questioned to all the people mostly to our teenagers. But, quite sadly to know that a very low number of teenagers in our country are speaking up. This problem happens because they are not much exposed to the real world and not knowing the importance of speaking up. In my point of view, the most important thing of speaking up is to get what we need. Actually what we need is all out there, we just have to be confident enough to speak up and grab what we think important for our life. By speaking up only we can survive in this new era because everybody is fighting up for their necessities. If we keep quiet, it is same like going back home with empty hands after a competition. We are not going to get nothing if we do not speak up. So, everybody have to speak up in order to get knowledge, our rights and justice. Speaking up is not a big deal because everybody is an human being and we are all same, so, I think we should not be shy or scared to share our point of view to others. We have to speak up so, that dissatisfaction can be avoided with others and feel free to share out our ideas throughout the meetings. Lastly, speaking up is a talent gifted by God to us and use these talent wisely so that we can gain benefits and not problems. Speak up to get what we want in our life because life is a race. We have to compete with others by using our speaking talent so that we can win our life race.

Actually this is the first time I'm sharing my ideas in blogs. I hope it is a good one. :)

Speak up is never an easy task to do when you are still a greenhorn because not everyone have the ability or talent to speak up. It needs time to build up our courage so that we can speak with confidence but why? Why do we need to speak up? That's a good question. Everyone know that when you speak up, you are trying to give your opinion, or share your thought, for what? It's for stand your own rights. We are all humans, we also need some privacies and rights to protect ourself, we are not immortal, we are just a human being with a fragile heart. Furthermore, we are not psyche or a magician that can read people's mind This is humans' nature. So when we don't speak, how are you going to share your thought? How are you going to say "I love you" to your mother? It's a common sense or basic that we need to communicate to share our opinion, to persuade people to support us. I know, there's always difficulty in speaking up in our daily life. When we meet difficulty or obstacles, we fight. No one is going to save you, is you yourself have to self-protect. If not, you will find yourself crumble alone and in result, maybe you will say goodbye to your world. You don't have to be afraid of what you are thinking of because humans make mistakes. As saying goes, "practice makes perfect." No one is talented at first, they sacrifice a lot of hard work and times to build their own talent. So, why can't we do that? Life's not about how hard of a hit you can give, it's about how many you can take, and still keep moving forward. So, never give up practising your own vocabulary because speak up is important to all of us.
Thank you...

Why do we need to speak up? It's entirely possible that your insightful observations and conclusions have surfaced in the minds of others. Others may share your thoughts and opinions, but may be also unwilling to speak up. By speaking your mind you encourage them to voice their opinions as well. If everyone holds back, the bus may silently head over a cliff. This is from my sister’s experience, she is a staff nurse and recently she got work in a specialist hospital. Before she join the work, the Head of department told her that she will be confirmed the job after 9months according to her performances. But after 4months, they have confirmed her for the job. This shows that she performed well and her salary increased as well. So, I think if you speak up , it helps you in all kind of situation. This is my first time of sharing my ideas in blog. Thank you 

My mother told me that I was only able to talk when I was 3 years old, but fortunately I am a very talkative boy now. Why do we need to speak up?
Speaking is one of the most efficient ways in communication which form a bond between humans. Speak up to share your ideas and thoughts. No one is you, no one can understand what you think. As a committee of many events, I understand speak up during meetings may end up with disagreement, but the worst case is always when you do not speak up. If you did not share your ideas or opinions, the event will never be improved or even failed. Besides, speak up to express your feeling. If you love your parents, give them a hug and say “I love you”. When you are happy, share with them your happiness. Do not left even a single regret in your life, so stand up and speak up now before it is too late.
In conclusion, speak up to communicate and share your thoughts and feeling at the same time. Speak up and make things happen.

There are three reasons for a man to search for knowledge:
1. To decrease our ignorance
2. To practice on the knowledge
3. To PROPAGATE the knowledge.

Hence, by speaking up, we will not let the knowledge die. The chain of knowledge will be kept for generations.

Through expressing our thoughts, it helps to deliver messages or meaning that has been searched by others and give them the sense of.. "ahh..that's what I was looking for!" or it helps them to think more critically in their comparative thinking to find the truth.

Speaking up shows our level of confidence. And to be strong enough to face the fear if the idea will be rejected or courageous enough to take the risk to change another mind's way of thinking.

Even if our perceptions are all different from others, do not worry. For different minds can have more fascinating debate and newer conclusion can be achieved rather than similar minds, because similar minds might have nothing to discuss since a lot of things are agreeable and maybe new ideas can't be produced in such cases.

In a nutshell, let's speak up and don't be repressive on what we believe in. Be expressive, because for sure there will be some people astonished by your ideas ;)

Speaking up is, indeed, not an easy task, initially as those inexperienced shall dread every moment as if speaking up would indirectly cause them to be outcasts of the society.
But nonetheless, this could be very true as sometimes it is just not the right moment nor place to speak up your mind and thus, gain yourself an infamy - something most people dislike being in. Therefore, one has to be fully aware and be able to analyse the situation so that his expression of ideas could definitely garner support. Speaking up is a double edged sword, so one has to make full use of his/her intelligence to analyse and act upon the situation accordingly.

That moment when Mr.A a lecturer in my university, packed his stuff and left the class without saying anything, and he left us behind. My class mates and I, we were frozen asking ourselves, what’s going on? And what’s wrong?

The next class, Mr.A came in late 15 minutes and ‘for the first time’ with a projector. He came in, without saying a word, and for the first time the class was QUIET and TIGHT-LIPPED!

He started connecting his laptop and the projector, then he started right away with a new chapter ''Chapter 4''. I have been told ‘’When you start chapter 4, you better focus a 100% cause that chapter is the longest chapter and it’s really important’’. So, in my mind this is it, maybe he brought the projector because he wants to explain more or something. 15 minutes later, HE FINISHED CHAPTER 4!
‘’we finished chapter 4, and if any question came out from this chapter, you should be able to do it’’ he said. Then, ‘’CHAPTER 5’’ suddenly appeared on the screen. I couldn’t take it anymore, this had to stop.

I raised my hand, and ask him, ‘’do we have to study the theory part only, because I saw a lot of math formulas and you didn't stop at them?’’, ‘’No you have to study everything, definitions, problems, derivation, everything’’ he said. At that point I was burning inside, and my friend was beside me calming me down, but HONESTLY I couldn’t take it anymore. I looked around everyone was looking down, and none of them said a word. So I said, ‘’I’m really sorry if I have done anything wrong, and on behalf of my classmates, I want to apologize if we have done anything wrong’’, I continued with a tense voice, ‘’you always explain everything, you always giving us a way out for any problem we face, and the way you teach is just amazing, and we can easily pick up any information. But, today I couldn’t really understand anything, and this is the first time you come to this class with a projector, and a senior student told me this is the longest chapter, so, I don’t think 15 minutes is enough. And once again, we really sorry if we did anything wrong, can you please explain more, and give us more examples.’’

He looked at me with smile on his face and said ‘’hummm 15 minutes, 15 minutes’’, then said something I can’t really remember what was it, but he sat down and said ‘’Next class we are going to do chapter 4 again’’. I went to him after the class and said ‘’I’m really sorry for talking like that’’ and he looked at me with smile and said ‘’No problem’’.

What drive me to talk?

Fear of what going to happen next, is he going to do this for chapter 5, 6, 7...REALLY!
no one talks, means you all accepting what I'm doing, so YES, this way is easy, so YES, I'll continue doing this for chapter 5, 6, 7.. CAN YOU DEAL WITH THAT?!

If this moment is passed, and I didn't talk, that feeling of regret is worse. That moment when you start thinking ''I should have said something’’, ''I should have done something'', ''If I did this, I wouldn't be in this position'', that feeling is just worse.

All this feelings are heavy when you keep them inside, and they affect a lot, they affect the way think, the way you react to things, they affect a lot. There is always a way to express your feelings, and there is always away to share your thoughts, ideas, opinions. Some people feel comfortable in public speech, others use writing, music, acting, drawing, dancing. At the end of the day, THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY.

So, know yourself, find your comfort zone, and use it to speak up your thoughts loud and clear.

Why do we need to speak up? We need to speak up to let people knows what inside our thought. Only through speak up we can express our thought and desire to other people. It is a channel connecting the mind of one to another. Nevertheless, we sometimes tend to or unintended make mistake when speak up. Thus people cannot perceive what we want to express and misunderstand about us. Therefore conflict happens.
That's the reason we must speak up at the right moment and tell them the true nature of our messages. Bear in mind that we may need to consider many aspects before deliver the message. Intonation, body language, environment and emotional state are absolutely vital. Nothing is much more important than deliver our thoughts and simultaneously evaded undesired misunderstand.
Besides that, we need to speak up for allowing people consider and accept our thoughts. Persuading people through speak up is a sequential phase of communication. It began with developing idea and thoughts, comparison and argument and finally persuasion to convincing people to agree upon a situation.
Next, when we speak up what is in our mind and tell friend and family our feeling, it certainlywill improve the relationships between us. As we all know that family and friends are essential part of our life.
I believe all of us want to avoid conflict happens between ourselves and our beloved family nor friends. So just tell them how you really feel about the way they treat you, at least you make the first step and people will do the next. I believe it will alter the relationship between you and him/her.
Speak up also will be an important tools for us to express our personal needs and concern with those we know most We can express our love nor hate with just speak up the truth feeling. This surely will be a powerful tools to express our deep thoughts and feels to those we loved and cared the most.
Thank you.

We Asians have been trained to listen quietly to our parents or teachers ever since we were a kid. As for me this is the main obstacle to speak up for teenagers. This narrow minded attitude gets teenagers to think that expressing their opinions might be wrong and are also afraid to speak up. As a kid,we are more prone to make mistakes. But,our parents blow it out of the proportion and makes a small issue to become haywire. The society and our families have to change their way of typical Asians thinking which doesn't respect the young one's opinion because they think that kids have immature thinking. The main purpose of speaking up is to express our own opinion and to stand out among others with confidence and self-esteem. Teenagers should first be bold to express their thoughts as interviews for their future careers will be all about their way of presenting themselves and the level of their self-confidence.

Just think for a moment, we speak casually to almost anyone every day. However, why do some people tend have problem speaking when they need it the most. It’s due to the fear of thinking about the consequences. For an instance, people might be afraid to speak up because they will be concerned about the impression of others towards them may change. Let’s say we’re having an argument with someone special, we will be thinking that losing the argument is better than losing the person. My opinion may vary from others but I personally feel we should only speak up whenever it’s necessary. It’s better to stay quiet and avoid problems instead of speaking up and making things worse. There are some situations where you might really need to speak up. What I’m trying to say here we shouldn’t always speak up and voice out our opinion, instead we can also try to accept and evaluate other opinions. Sometimes, it's okay to just give in a little.

We are afraid what we don't know. We are individuals being oppressed and taught to listen, don't speak! We sit quietly, agreed politely. we forgot that we have a choice, a choice to make a change. They say a journey starts by taking the first step. I believe, an idea enlighten others by speaking it out loud. In this huge world, we couldn't possibly know everything. Through sharing of ideas, we can find a sense of belonging, finding ourselves a group or people with the same passion. We do not underestimate the strength of a small dedicated group of people, they could change the world.
It all revolves around leadership. what defines, leadership? Leadership has two characteristics. One, leaders are unhappy individuals. Oh? Living in a fast paced city, people tend to be unhappy about mortgage, life, work, you name it. Does this makes everyone a leader? Here comes the second part. Leaders are consists of people who are unhappy yet not giving up, driving a CHANGE.
CHANGE. Developing an idea into reality. Speaking up is the first step, but not the only step. It has prerequisites to be fulfilled. This is where SKILLS come into the picture. Once you have the drive to initiate a change, motivation comes along. Equip yourself with the set of skills that allow you disseminate your thoughts and idea to the people. Enlightening, and morale raising.

Soon, you will find yourself within a group of people, who wants to change, start a revolution, with resolution. Speaking up, speak your mind. We do not have the power to read minds. Almighty designed us in such a way that we communicate through our senses. Use it.

It is because maybe no one else may not know what you know. We can't assume what will happen when you speak up. Definitely your skills and experience has value in a very situation. You can have unique thoughts and perspective. It doesn’t mean that everything you speak up in a communication will be accepted, but with that little thought, you should able to gain self-confidence. Speaking up is a form honesty to yourself and people around you because you stand for your points. Speaking up will demonstrate that you will be truthful person, take care the people with you ,you will be indeed a good advisor and you will bring smile on people who are trusting you.

After graduate we will meet a lot of stranger in social, it is quite hard if we start learning to speak up on that time. So why don't we start learning right now? Since we are now in college and learning together with friends, this is the best chance for us to train our speaking skill by speaking up and sharing our opinion.
There is a lot of benefit by speaking up, keep speaking up will gain our self-confident and enhance our knowledge, these are all we need after leaving university and enter the social. Interview is needed for every jobs, there's more chance to get hired if you have enough confident and speak up fluency, the first impression given to the interviewer will be better than someone with no confident and shy.
In conclusion, just speak up more to make our life more colorful.

There are many beneficts to ourself but this most scary things to who is dont have confident to talk in front. Actually this thing will create our confident to talk because this thing will related to our daily life and maybe in our future also. Furthermore, from speak up also we can share our opinion or idea that each from us have a different opinion or idea. This things should can encourage us to involved and show our self what our capability. But when we share we also must respect and tolerate with each other when we share the opinion. in addition, it will gain experience. we noy just can gain experience involve any activities outside the class but from here we also gain experience. Hello Dr.Zue,
"Speaking up" is a platform for us to express our feelings and opinions. Some people would just keep quiet and expect others to guess what they are thinking. If we are facing any problem, how could others know about it if we not speak up. We have to communicate with others by speaking up. This will improve our communication skill. For example, if we not satisfied with someone, we cannot keep quiet and calm. We have to share our opinion with that person. This will help us to avoid many problems. Furthermore, if we not speak up, it will contribute us to stress. So speak up from now to express our feelings and opinions.

Why does one need to speak up?

There are a multitude of reasons that would encourage this behavior, although with every word expressed, we should be ready for the consequences that comes our way.

I shall state my opinions concerning the benefits of being very vocal in our thoughts and ideas as well as laying out some of the effects that our words could cause toward others.

Speaking up can be one of two things, and in this context, we are looking at the meaning whereby speaking up means, "To speak out something."

I know a lot of people who are very shy of voicing out their opinions to a large crowd. They are excellent when talking amongst friends, and would usually have such creative ideas and views that would be a big loss, should they not share them. Had everyone be vocal in their opinions and ideas, I am sure that the world would be better, albeit with their own consequences. In order for a person to be at their absolute best, it is quintessential to be able to speak up and voice your opinions in a clear and concise manner. It builds character, helping you find faults within your own arguments, thus furthering your understanding of one particular topic. We speak up in order to persuade others, influence them into our way of thinking. There are also those who keep the opinions to themselves in fear of hurting others, and avoiding conflict that could arise. Though sometimes, this is not a bad thing since our ideas, our observations, could very much help others to reinforce their topics. Not only that, but we could also undermine any false facts and rumors that are being discussed. We need to build up the courage to voice out our opinions, and prepare for hours on end if we are not as proficient when thinking on the fly. As undergraduates, we are to do multiple presentations that require us to lay out our findings, research, and opinions on a myriad of topics, and how can this be done if we fear presenting them to others?

What causes these fears?

There are a lot of them though they can be compressed down to a few words. Critics, self-consciousness, comparison, and lack of preparation.

Ever since school, as far as I can remember in Malaysia, nearly everyone a critic. For some odd reason, we are tuned to be very judgmental of others and those who ask the wrong questions are usually condemned or made fun of. How could this trend not instill fear in others? Avoiding prejudgment and criticism should be key into helping others voicing out their opinions. Through my own observations, it seems that people are now very sensitive, unable to accept sarcasm, jokes, and light remarks as they are. Sure, the ones who deliver should also filter their words as to not be so offensive towards their target audience. But those who listen should not jump to conclusions, and dissect the messages being delivered carefully before reacting.

"The pen is mightier than the sword." - Edward Bulwer-Lytton

Therefore, speak up, and speak carefully.

Salam,
I agree with other’s opinion that state speak up is really good for us, especially for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
But I am curious about why peoples are still unable to speak up?
Aren’t they really know about the advantages of speak up or there are other reasons for them to not speak up?
Suddenly, some of the reasons appear in my mind. It is based on my own experiences why I’m too scare to speak up in front of peoples.
One of the reasons is people are facing the hardest part of their life which is to handle their own self.
What I am trying to say is they actually want to speak up among people but they thought that they might not be able to do that. They were not good enough to speak up and they also think the about effect if they were giving the speech in front, they will be laugh by audience, or audience will know their weakness. So they end up to stay as they usually do and not trying to speak up.
Facing their own self mean to said they are facing with inner side of them. Facing with their level of confident, embarrassment, bravery and others. They shall manage to control these things and put it on the right place. When it comes good for them then they should grab it and put those disturbances away or maybe increase the level of their self.
Last but not least,
Be professional handling ourselves and Dare to speak up!
Or you will lose it.

The big problem when they know what to say but they don't know how to express it by speaking it up. Although, some people just sit back and say nothing when something really suitable to be said. It could be an idea or a good suggestions even a criticism.

They maybe scared for hurting or leave a scar to another people heart and feelings. Sometimes as we know, it seems like 'play safe' or staying silent is a wiser choice.

Why do we need to speak up is because if u remain silent that means you considered agreed with it even you may think that staying silent keeps you from being involved in any conflict. By speaking up we can express our thoughts, opinion, or even a brilliant idea that people never realize. Meanwhile, when your speak up, it shows what you really are and what is your personality. When you speaking it's just like a mirror for yourself and shows your personality and your confidence. Last at but not least, speak up. Remaining silent doesn't solve any problem and it will make it worst.

Every person has their own perceptions, the way in which something is understood and interpreted. So we are. How we interprete an issue may differ from the others. In order to express our perception, we need to stand and speak up confidently. We have to throw out our voice to make sure that we stand our right and happiness. Nothing else worth in this world other than happiness in our life.
If we ourselves are not going to speak up, how is the world suppose to know our existance. Do speak up. Believe in ourselves and never afraid to be a risk taker.Do stand on your words even your voice shakes. We have suffer a lot. It is not because of the violence of the bad people, but it is because of the silence of the good people. If we choose to be neutral in every situation, we have actually choosed to be in depression.
Do not let the noise of other's opinions drown out our own inner voice.
Never allow ourselves to be bullied by the silence. Accept no one's definition but always believe in ours. Take a stand and speak the truth. It is up to us to respect and protect our rights and happiness of our life. This is our life ,our journey and our happiness.Don't let anyone stand in our way.
Last but not least, sticks and stones may break a human bones, but words of a person may cause permanent pschological damage to the others.

The anxiety that we feel before speaking up about our opinion or idea are the reason why that people do not really want to speak up. Well that is kind of normal because everyone does feel that. But the feeling after speaking up is even better. We feel the satisfaction and wanting to do it again. Not only beacuse of the anxiety, people are more scared of being criticize by others for speaking out their cool and crazy idea because nowadays people often criticize others.I think that people should speak up more now because it can give a lot of benefits. As an example, speaking up can surely build our self confidence that make us less feeling anxiety whenever we want to speak up again. It can also help us to become more confident during any job interviews so that the company feel like they are making the right choice for choosing us. But, if we do not have the courage to speak up in front of a crowd of people, maybe we can start voicing out our opinion with friends for a starter. From there, we can practice and improve ourselves to become better so that later on we can speak out in front of a crowd of people. As a lot of people said ; Practice makes perfect. Try to speak up more so that people can listen to you. So, just let it out guys!

Speak for your future. Hello everyone, talking about why we need to speak up, I’m pretty sure there is a lot of reasons. But I think the most importance of why we need to speak up is to communicate to each others. We need to perform communication no matter where we are. Ladies and gentleman, even animals also had communicates to each others in their own ways. So, we as a human also need this in our life. Speak up is just a normal things in our life but nowadays teenagers think that speak up is not important. They just ignore from giving any opinion or suggestion in any of situations. This is a bad attitude that we as a teenager had because the future of this country are depend on us. Imagine that when we are working for a company, we have a great and new idea to improve the management of the company but we choose to keep silent. What will happen to the company? Of course the company will just remain the same and will not have any new improvements! Just imagine how thing around us goes without communication. It’s hard to understand what people around us try to deliver if we didn’t have a good and clearly communication. Sometime, because of this we will get a wrong idea and misunderstanding about what people are trying to say too. And definitely when this happen it’s so hard to avoid a disputation and an argument among us. To conclude, speak up is a perfect ways to improve our communication skill and gain more experience from that. Ladies and gentleman, let’s speak up today for your own good future. Thank you.

If we look around us, the inhabitants of the whole world is communicating in their own way. Bees buzz, birds chirp and even plants responds to changes of environment and seasons, albeit more slowly.

In this regard, for a higher level of being such as us humans, it would be more unnatural for us to not communicate at all. Thus, speaking up - in the context of expressing oneself - is the most natural and simple thing to do. However, as pointed out by the following site:

http://www.learning-mind.com/top-10-most-common-human-fears-and-phobias/

social phobia (inclusive of speaking up) is ranked as one of the highest fear of most people.
Why is this so? In my opinion, while the act of speaking up itself induces apprehension and nervousness, it is not as fearful as the consequences and repercussions that follows. After a nerve-wrecking session of public speaking, if a positive feedback is received, the initial fear is alleviated, although the degree differs from person to person and from occasion to occasion. On the other hand, a negative reaction will reinforces the initial fear. This will cause the speaker to have a higher degree of initial fear on his or her next speech, as the previous negative memory will gnaw at them from the back of their minds. However, is this really such a bad thing?

Not necessarily. In the end, it all boils down to their mindsets. There are stories of war prisoners in concentration camps that still can retain their individuality while many others in the same predicament lost theirs. In one such stories that I have read, one mentioned that while he was a prisoner physically, the captors can never imprison his mind. This prisoner later on even make friends with his prison guards.

In other words, fear is how our body instinctively respond to a possible hostile situation. Conquering the fear, or even better - make use of the fear, will make you grow stronger and more resilient. Fear can be likened to fire. Feed it and it will grow. When it grows big beyond control, then, you have a problem. However, if you manage it well, you can utilize it for a lot of use.

P.S. In recent times, in light of Charlie Hebdo, there are those that view freedom of speech as you can speak up and say anything you want. This line of thinking is wrong and should be stopped. While I agree that we should speak up, I adamantly urge others to do so in a courteous and respectful manner.

Thank you.

Public Speaking... Huhh, scariest thing ever in people life.

Speaking up is important for all, not just for student but even for adult. Mostly, people afraid to step forward to speaking up.

For me, its not because we afraid to speaking up but we were lack of confidence to speaking up, that what make most of us afraid to step forward to throw out our opinion. We have very good point and opinion to tell everyone but we lack of confidence to tell people our opinion because we'll afraid that if people will laugh and not agree with our opinion. If have so much confident , that will make us brave to throw out our opinion, our voice.

That will make you are good leadership if you have confident to speak up.

there is no limit to the amount of great ideas that people can come out with, however, the mistake people do is they actually do not try to share or talk about their ideas with others near them or in public. because of that their true potential cannot be unleashed and no one will ever notice their abilities if they didn't speak about it .
So, no matter how little we think of our ideas it a good thing to share so we can learn and obtain info that helps us to grow and develop our idea to whole another level

I believe that speaking up can help undergraduate student to boost their confidence. When I first started my degree specially during the first semester , I could feel the lack of confidence within me when it was coming to the presentations. My first ever presentation seemed so hard to me and I was so stressed out to speak up in front of everyone and I remember how my body was shaking. However three years later when I was having my final year project presentation I did not have any fear at all , I was so confident to stand out in front of the examiners and present my job to them , I felt so good and happy about my performance when I was done. That was when I realized how all those class presentations in the past three years helped me to improve my inner talent and achieve the courage I need to be loud enough in front of the crowd to be heard.
I also think it’s very true to say that”Keeping your ideas to yourself may not take you far” .In my opinion each one of us can be a designer or creator of something. What we create may not be something big but it can be something useful for some specific people or it can help the future generations. So the only way to let others know about how we think is to speak up.

The ability to speak up and voice out our opinion is certainly a very important and useful skill in our lives. Imagine this, let's say we're working in a cooperate sector where there're millions of employees. How do we demonstrate our abilities to our employers and clearly differentiate ourselves from the typical mindless workers. Well, we need to speak up our ideas and let them know that we're not just mindless individuals who only follow orders.

Many people tend to be afraid to speak up, mainly because they're shy and afraid to be criticise by others. One simple solution for this problem is to believe in yourself and be confident. You don't have to have excellent english to speak in public as the main point is for the individual to obtain public relation, communication skills and build up self confidence.

To simplify matters, don't worry about being judge by others for being incompetent but take baby steps and build up your confidence.

Tough thing in this world..

I agree with you that speaking up is important.
Speak up is a communication with audience but people are scare to speak in front especially in english..for me speak up can improve our language and communication skills..its also can give more confidence levels and responsibility to attract audience ,enjoy your speak up with audience..By speaking up will make people impress with us because we have one leadership skill that none of us have it. By speaking up will improve ourself and make us more confident to speak up our opinion.

By speaking up, make us feel better to share our opinion. Don't be afraid to tell people our opinion, throw out our opinion with full of confident and make people shock and impress with us. Do not worry what people will said after that, but thing.. No one will dare enough to step forward and speaking up our opinion and speak up also can polish our mind to think and share a ideas.

Hi Dr Zue, assalamualaikum and good evening.

I saw so many genius and helpful comments above me. From 2008 till 2015, basically all the points are almost the same. All points are about to encourage people to stand and speak out their opinions.

Many people who bravely speak up their opinion. And there are also some of people who does not have any confidence at all although they got their good opinion.

For my opinion, there are two types of people; one who can dare to talk bravely and one who can write perfectly. For those who can talk in front of crowded people, front of large amount of people, they are really gifted. They have the brave gems. I, myself, would prefer to write than to talk. It is because sometimes I feel I can express anything by write it on my blog (oh yeah I got a blog, https://a-whitesoul.blogspot.com :p). It is kinda free and I don't have to be nervous to face numbers of people in front of me. I like to write since 2008 but due to assignments and whatnot, I stopped blogging for a while. Maybe I will begin to start soon. Some people are prefer to write out their ideas and opinion but scared to speak up (just like me). Speak up is actually not an easy task for people like me. I have to mentally and physically ready to coop with my nervous and shy feelings and in the other side, my brain start to work on the tasks and try to remember all the words. Im not really the spontaneous people :>

I know, there are so many advantages of speak up. Like Dr. Zue has mentioned, it is an opportunity to tell people about our interpretations or a platform for us to gather more audience to get some support, but for me, I just need maybe some other time to groom and polish myself. I can say, I brave to write out my opinion instead of speak up.. :)

Last but not least, speak up is really a good thing and it is essential for us when we have something to fight for. Fight healthy, not sarcastically. Speak up is not you can only talk, but you can also write them up!

p/s: Thank you Dr. Zue for giving us such an opportunity to leave some ideas here. May Allah bless your kindness!

Why do we need to speak up?

Well, this is a very good question asked by many who don't think that speaking up for something is worth. If asked to speak up on a stage, in front a crowd or even as simple as to be asked to give an opinion or an idea in a small group, many would rather just sit back and watch the show and voice out later their comments, either to their close friends or on the social medias as statuses.

Expecting the world to read your mind is one thing, but not speaking up can also indicate a deeper fundamental lack of confidence in your own judgment.

Some calls it shyness.

Have you ever stopped to consider that what you call shyness might just be EGO? Perhaps your anxiety over how others might perceive you is just a coward's version of VANITY?

Sorry if I was too harsh or rude, but the truth is bitter.

Many benefits could be achieved if one stood up for once in their live to just SPEAK UP.

Speaking up don't need much things. One has everything in within themselves that helps them to voice out their thoughts. For example, ones fear, they must over come it and be brave. Through this, a persons self-esteem will be boosted automatically.People who speak up gains higher-self-esteem level each time asked to present in front of people or to give ideas while in a group task.

Not only that, speaking up ones ideas also helps them to gain a smooth communication skill. These people who often share their thoughts and opinions will be better at getting more friends and it is easy for them to fit in with new environment. They are the type that won't be afraid to work with different types of people. Which makes it easier for them to be hired for jobs. A good communication skill is essential!

Besides that, speaking up could even save lives! How? Well you see, for example if your classmate or a friend in school is bullied. But he/she has not brave enough to report it to the teachers or adults, what would you do? Would you keep it to yourself and pretended that the matter never existed? What if one day the situation goes from bad to worst? Your inner-self will regret for not standing up at the moment for the rest of your life. Peace will not be gained.

Now lets imagine the same situation but this time you take action! You speak up! Speak up for the ones who couldn't! Be someone's voice. This could safe the bullied victim's life. Could safe the problem from being more worse.

Some one has to speak up! Don't look around, why not you?

I speak not for myself but for those without voice... those who have fought for their rights... their right to live in peace, their right to be treated with dignity, their right to equality of opportunity, their right to be educated.

I am totally agree with Mursalina's point that nowadays people are afraid to speak up especially in english language because they think their english are not good enough. So, they are not confident enough to speak up. Nowadays we really need to speak up either we want or not.

There are some reason that why we need to speak up. In my opinion, you may not be alone in your thinking. Furthermore, speak up will build our self confidence.

It is really important to speak up especially when you feel like you can’t cope, don’t try to get through on your own. Ask for help and advice and don’t stay stuck out of fear for what others may think. Everyone has his or her moments, and it’s only human to need to reach out.

Other than that, you can share a good news with others. Your ideas are worth sharing. So, let's speak up everyone! :)

As I know, people who speak up is the one who is success in their life. Speak up is a natural talent that every person in the earth got but only some people who is brave only speak up. Same people just speak up inside their mind and not to other person. With this kind of attitude, they not going to get any benefit. We have to speak up whenever the situation related to us. As an undergraduate, we have to use the platform that given by our lectures and colleagues at the time. It will be a perfect practice for us to face the working environment in future. We also have to speak up our idea in our working place. So my conclusion is, we have to speak up for our rights.

Why do we are in a conversation in the first place?
If you are in a conversation for a reason, you need to show your commitment and demonstrate that you are actually invested in the conversation by being vocal. Speak up can also be considered as being actively participating in a shared decision making. It can also be considered as being honest. It is a fact that honesty builds trust. Trust is an incomparable value in a community that can benefit you and others.
Everyone has a unique perspective and knowledge of their own on things that is happening in the world. I've always thought that every idea that a person has, if combined with other people's ideas could solve a lot of complex and puzzling problems in this world. One way of being heard by people is to speak up!
By speaking up, people can recognize your skills, ambition, values and desires. By speaking up, you can also increase your own self-respect and respect from others. It would also help to increase the one of the most important skills ever needed by mankind, which is communicating.
Being able to speak up to yourself and what is right doesn’t guarantee you will get it your way, but it will make a lot of difference to the community and to oneself.

A very good morning to Dr. Zue.Before I start on elaborating my points,I would like to thank you for giving the opportunity to write on this wall.

Firstly, why do I need to speak up? My answer to this question is only 1. When I speak up, I can create an environment where everyone starts to talk to each other and from there the learning part comes in. In today's world even in Malaysia, people tend to keep things inside themselves. This is not a good sign for the next generation. Speaking up does not mean only when you want to express your feelings or states what you know, but it can be applied as a learning process for a better world in the future. Let us make things simple. If I start to talk and share what are the knowledge that I have, people around me will learn not only about the information that I shared but also they can learn a little bit about myself. Maybe not all of them will give a positive critic but it is still in the context of learning. That is why we need to speak up. When you do not talk, people will not know what you already know.

Secondly, speak up can be crucial especially in the working environment. Based on reasearch done, most of the companies that provide training for their employees are lacking in interpersonal skills and soft skills. How can this be happening? The simple and main point to this matter is that people nowadays only look at the academic achievement rather than the improvement in life. I am pretty sure you noticed about this too. How can we determine that a person who scores 4 flat or 3.5 or even 3.0 is much more better than another person who scores less than that? No one can prove that am I right? Apparently, the trainings that are attended by most of the employees are the trainings for solving conflicts in the organization, how to interact with customers and also the most basic thing which is body language. Imagine if people start to talk to each other and keep on reminding each other, this problem can be solve in time.

I think that is all from me. Thank you Dr. Zue.

You're not done in this word. A man can change the world. People start their dreams by an idea . this idea won't develop by itself , You have to express it to people and speak it up with no fear, shyness or eeriness of falling in a mistake. You idea can make a difference even the smallest one can change. Great people success because they didn't give up from the people's criticizing . people never satisfy . they always look for someone mistake and sometime they will just make up ones.

SHOUT IT OUT , you deserve to be heard.

Couldn't agree more on this issue. Speaking up is one of the least things we tend to do . More so important to this is the timing that we tend to speak up. Doing it at the wrong moments seemed to be the biggest problem. Interestingly it has been highlighted in the post on positive aspect of the said topic which can help an individual to keep improving. Their critical and analytic skills wont be just developing but also maturing into the individuals thoughts.

Good day to all. Why we need to speak up? There are many reason why we need to speak up. First of all is to stand our opinion. In a discussion or meeting ,sometime we may think the other opinion are not good enough to make something or the topic more better. So ,why should not we try to stand and speak up our opinion. If anything is causing you feel down unsatisfied, just let people know. If we always speak up, eventually it will make us more brave and more principled.
Secondly, speak up when you have a questions or want to answer a question. As a student , sometimes we may don’t understand what the lecture taught us. So, we need to speak up and let the lecture know and help us to make us understand it. If we did not speak up , there’s nobody know that we did not understand it and there’s nobody would help us. When we have a presentation ,the audience may ask us. In this situation, we should show our confident level. Speak it up and give the best answer. So, my friend , stand and speak up.
Thank you.

Humans are gifted with a very beautiful and unique ability which is to speak. Yet many of them have the fear to speak especially in front of a crowd, in a group discussion or with a person in higher position. Why need the fear? Many thought that Silence is deemed approval. You may think that staying silent keeps you from being involved in any conflict, but quite the opposite. I believe that many are scared that their grammar and pronunciations might goes wrong. It is fine as we actually learn from mistakes. You could hone your speech ability through few mistakes. Speaking is important mainly to build up our self-confidence. At first we might be nervous but as we start to speak but we will have the self-confidence built up as we speak on. Self-confidence is important so that we could bravely speak out our ideas in a group discussion and we could also contribute some very good ideas. This could lead to where we also could find out our inner potential that were hidden so long in our coward self and polish it to make it more perfect as the diamond is actually found by polishing it from its original stone. As I said earlier, silence is deemed approval and this could actually cause dissatisfaction in ourselves as where we might not like the opinion or disagree with it but because we are scared to speak out, they will assume that we have agreed. When this happens, you will start to don’t contribute to the work as you don’t like to do it and at the end it results in a conflict. We should speak up because it’s our rights. By speaking up, we could also share our knowledge and experience with others and by doing that, we could educate others and pass our knowledge to others while learning from them. This is what we call a two way communication. In a nutshell, speaking have many good benefits especially when the speech delivered correctly, perfectly and properly. Fear no more and speak bravely, confidently and steadily. Be sure to taste your word before spitting them out and before speaking, please make sure your tongue is connected to your brain. Thank you…

I believe there might be several errors in this text and I hope we could together improve my mistakes. Correct me if I did any mistakes.

Have you ever had your boss saying this to you "Unless you have anything of substance here, this conversation is over”?
Have you ever felt the awkwardness of being unable to explain your opinion?

Of course you have...As sometimes we feel helpless in these situations.

To be able to professionally treat these kinds of situations, you need to learn how to speak out and influence others. Ordinarily, it is best if you have acquired
Such skills from childhood, but if you have not, then I would say to you, Worry Not! Where there is a will, there is a way.
Start right away, by watching videos and reading people's experience on public speaking. At the beginning, it would seem hard, but soon enough, you will feel
like you want to speak forever.
Why do we have to speak up?

1. as a bachelor's degree holder, you need such a skill in order for you to be able to compete with others and stand out from the crowd.

2. Socialism and interactions make our life colorful, it comes when you are able to speak up.

3. Innovations and brainstorming come from the ability to express yourself.

Finally, If you are a university student, then seize your chances, because university life happens once. By following this path you will bring benefits and happiness to yourself, as you will be able to answer, protect your ideas, influence and reply to chastisement.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab a chance, and speak up!

Assalam Dr Zue and friends.

In my opinion, Malaysians nowadays can speak up their opinions by themselves really well. But,using the screen as the alternate of course.
When we scroll the facebook, twitter and any other social media pages, I found that there are many comments and opinions in the reply section, especially when it comes to hot topics and issues. Some of them were quite nasty and some of them were really encouraging. But that's all. That's what we call 'keyboard warrior'.
Of course it is hard to speak in front of the crowd with people keep eyeing and observing you. But if we practice little by little, the words that we keep bottled up can be voice out with much understanding from others.
So, speak up is essential, if you want to express your love towards your beloved, the messages can reach the person by voicing out the words with your mouth, not the screen.
Thank you.

Yeah, we should speak up. The art of communication is not mastered by just knowing what to say and how to say it. A big factor is knowing when to say it. So often people sit back and say nothing when something really needs to be said. It could be an idea, a suggestion, an observation, a criticism...but for some reason they don't want to speak up. They may be afraid of hurting another person, looking mean or foolish, or opening a can of worms that will make a mess in everyone's lives. Sometimes it seems like staying silent is the wiser choice. I have been in that place around 18 years, just keep it silently haha. So why could I be like other who can speak up for themselves and keep it entertaining. On that day, I learn learn and learn how to speak up for myself in better English by following basic steps and that is:-
Don't be nervous- There is nothing to be nervous about when speaking up
If you listen to what other people are saying around you, you might think of more things to say things to talk about.
If you are having trouble starting a conversation, ask the other person "How are you?
If you are in class, actually think about what the teacher is saying.
If you are chatting with friends, follow in with the conversation.
Confidence is Key-Always act confident. Not too confident though
This is the way how I get confident after I follow up his steps, in my conclusion, if you have the feeling that something is wrong, don’t be afraid to speak up.

Communication is a tool with which we exercise our influence on others. Never underestimate the value of your ideas, speaking out the ideas of yours might helped others. Others will understand you more when you started to speak and indirectly promoting yourselves too!
Speaking up is essential while you are in a group discussion as everyone has to gather thought. Without doing so, you will ended up doing things that you don't like.
In a community, speaking up is also essential so that the authorities will discover our problem. Freedom to speak up is everyone's right but do not do it beyond the law.
Life is short, there is no time to leave important word unsaid!
Thanks

salam madam zue.
"why do you need to speak up"?
speaking up is really important to us.
public speaking skills help you communicate important messages inside and outside of the organization. By practicing public speaking, you learn how to prepare a message for each type of audience. For example, you would prepare a different speech for a fund-raising dinner than you would for a parent-teacher conference. Over time, you learn to think on your feet, taking information from the social environment and changing your communication patterns to suit the occasion. Most of all, public speaking skills are important for leaders. Whether you serve as a president of a civic group or run a small firm, you must communicate with an intent, such as to persuade, to inform or to motivate. You should be able to ask questions, state what your organization needs, represent a position on an issue, respond to other people's opinions and build consensus. If you cannot communicate clearly and motivate others through public speaking, it will be harder to realize your goals for your small business.
that all..

Speaking up has been taken into a totally different context nowadays. Many sums up that a person who speaks up is someone who is rude or arrogant.
In my opinion, it is really important for a person to speak up in any given situations. Speaking up merely means that the particular person is convinced that he has something good to be offered which can be used to bring betterment in different cases. Speaking up also proves that one truly understand his or her rights as a citizen of this country whereby everyone can give their opinion without disrupting racial integrity. By speaking up,you are also letting others know what are your opinions and what are you expecting from others. As for me, whether others agrees on your opinion or not is secondary, the primary thing is don't be afraid to speak up and let others know what are you trying to voice out. There is a difference between criticizing and speaking up and more often people tend to confuse between this two.
If you are really convinced about whatever that you are about to bring forward is informational, beneficial and brings high chances of positive reinforcements or changes, don't be afraid to speak up.
Thank you.

Speaking Up is the most important thing in this university life because we need to groom our communication skill to prepare ourselves before we go to the working surrounding. As a student we need to do early preparation to avoid lack of confidence when speaking up in front of people. Another thing is we shouldn't afraid of speaking up just because we are shy. In order to achieve either in education or when working, we need to speak bravely and get a chance to impress everyone so that we can become friends with everyone. I think speaking up is also important because we can improve our English language whenever we speak up. This happen because we need to do a lot of research, so we can improve our English language from that.
So what you are waiting for? Don't be shy and start to speak up bravely, it's fun and also helpful to you.
