Cutting the Gordian Knot

In life, we sometimes have the luxury of making a choice, a decision - and we lavishly bring into the cruise three elements: time, procrastination, and hesitation. Unfortunately, this often results in stress and underachievement.

Let's understand the nature of decision - that choices must be made in time for it to be meaningful. For instance, deliberating over a long list of topics over and over again does not help an ENGF 103 student make up his or her mind quick enough to submit the assignment to the lecturer. So? Be like Alexander the Great who "Cut the Gordian Knot" with boldness and decisiveness.

Tips:
In making decisions, piles of data and reading materials may not help much if we don't have the "right" materials.

Studying the problem time and again will not lead us to the decision, unless we "prioritize" the analysis and impose a "deadline".

At the end of the pursuit, find the courage in you to "Cut the Knot!"

True - we are amazed to still see ourselves and people around us spending so much time reading and understanding surplus information, yet still cannot decide. So, who says making decision is easy?

Alexander the Great was supposed to untie the knot, but he chose to cut it- the quickest way to loosen it. He used his mighty sword, of course...what about you?

decision making is something that is very subjective. Yes we do have some kind of guidelines on doing decision making, but is the decision that we had to make is it always in the same mood and surrounding? I do think decision making skills depend very much on your knowledge and experience. Alexander made his decision based on his knowledge and experience too.

Someone should count any possibilities before make a decision combine with logical facts and some sort of feelings.

What Syukry and wani said is true. Decisions dpn't happen overnight. We need to take enough time to deliberate - think, rethink, consider all possibilities as well as consequences. Then, we'll see the direction. Jez to caution ourselves - don't take too much time.

For me, making a decision is a very tough one. I tend to follow other people in making decision. I always asked other people for their opinion, and what will they do if they were in my place. I’m scared. Scared that what if the decision I make turns out wrong, or the worse decision of all the other option and people start regretting that they choose me to make the decision. Friends are to important to me to have them hate me. But there are times when I have to make decision, and I do, the decision is the right one and others are pleased. And I’m very very happy with that.

making a decision sometimes(i think) can be a real hassle. I'd rather sit back and not make decisions at all. But once i get into university, that's wut its all about. DECISIONS again and again and sometimes its annoying. anyway, i took probably weeks before i could narrow down my topic for engf103 yet that topic i was so sure(still am), i could have done so much better in it. and now, for public speaking? Any ideas?

Decision making can be really tough. One could take all the time in the world to deliberate and weigh out on options, but it's also about taking chances, isn't it?

Regarding to the decision making, I'll agree with some speaker that said making decision is a tough thing to do. Due to my opinion, this thing must take seriously so that we can enjoy our decision. Once we have make a wrong decision, we can't go back. I also agree with Shukry bout making decision, we must have skill based on our knowledge and experience. Without this 2 thing, our decision wouldn't fit us tremendously. :)

salam..
decision, decision, decision..i agree what they had comments in this post..it's really hard to make a decision..including the simplest decision we want to decide..so, make a decision through knowledge n experience is more easier than reading the "materials" we have..
therefore, don't take too mush time to make a decision~

In my opinion, i would say decision making is though...
its hard to say that we tend to make the right choice all the time... maybe we were lack of something during the decision making... lack of information maybe...
if there was a mistake in our choice, its better to think of the cure and take it has trial and error reither then cracking our head of that matter.
hmmmm, do you knw??
people use to say, Thomas Alva Eddison failed 1000 times before it discovered to function the bulb... meanwhile, the truth is,
he actually discovered 1000 ways of not making a bulb to function.
by this, i would like to conclude,
be vise and courage when decision making...no matter its right or wrong, we definitely gain knowledge... may the knowledge lead us to a higher peak...

If there is a question regarding decision making issues to me, I will absolutely answer, it is the most hardest part of life. Decision making is not only about our feelings and situations, but we must also consider other peoples sensitivity. We have to admit that decision in not our rights nowadays, people will question in all what me make and do. But for me, this is our life. Yes we have to think about other people, but for me,after considering all the pros and cons, just follow what is your heart say. Believe it or not, a decision that comes from a heart is the most sincere decision. Dont scare to make a decision because it is part of our responsibility in life. Think positive and look forward, you will know what is the best for you.

Making a decision is not an easy task. We will have to make a wise decision so that the decision we make is the right path. As we go through life making decisions in our place of employment or in our personal lives, our thinking tends to be influenced by culture, education, family values or other outside sources. Most times we are not even aware that our thinking is not objective when reaching a decision, nor do we apply a step by step process to come to a decision. So, you will need to think twice before making a decision. List out the pro and conts to get the right choice or decision. This will help you out :)
