Aidilfitri Comes Early at Seri Malaysia

Like last year, we spend our Raya holidays at Hotel Seri Malaysia. It's a simple and comfortable hotel, offering sumptuous Malay dishes for 'berbuka puasa'. Today, i enjoyed a plate of traditional Malay kuih...delicious!!! Dah lama tak jumpe...kuih tepung kelomak, abuk-abuk, kuih ku..and of course, other local favourites i.e. dodol and buah Melaka...my elder sister is coming to visit us tonite. She will bring us 'nasi impit' and 'sambal udang'...hmmm.sedapnya...tomorrow, we shall visit Pak Lang, Pak Ibik and Busu at the village. Not forgetting, we shall break fast at my younger sister's house..so,i shall continue this journablog only after that.

It's lots of fireworks for children and Raya packets (RM2, RM5, RM10, RM50..wow...don't we envy them...) As for everybody else, Raya is a get-together, an opportunity to catch up on exciting events in each other's lives. Raya is always a long holiday for us as this seems to be the best time to take a break from work and urban life, returning to the village and meet as a big happy family. As the saying goes, 'a picture paints a thousand words'. So, here are some photos during Raya celebration 2010.

The most dangerous vacation in my life!

I can hardly remember that day. That was about eight years ago when I was a bachelor student and that was the first time for me to go for mountain climbing. During the first minutes after leaving the city I was thinking this trip is going to be a wonderful trip that I shall be able to remember. Now I’m thinking that I was right.

I was accompanied by a group of my friends so I had not a lot of fears. We began walking in a very foggy and old way. After a while, fog disappeared and we saw a mountain that was covered by a carpet of grass and tree. Sadly, the weather was going to be dark and we did not have enough time to enjoy this beautiful scene.

Then we started to seek for a suitable place for establishing our climbing tools, tents and also to prepare food. I knew that staying in jungle at night is not a good idea but I had no choice because leaving behind the group wasn’t a good idea too. Therefore, I helped others and tried to pretend that everything is ok.

After eating food and walking for a long time I felt sleepy. Weather was really cold and wind just started to blow. Moon was shining brightly in the sky and shadows of the trees were dancing. I was asleep when a loud scream awoke me. A loud and long scream!

I remember that no one of us could sleep that night because of repeated awful screams and we feared horribly. We thought those screams were produced by human although we couldn’t see anyone but ourselves. That was really a terrible night but tomorrow morning when we finally found a local man was walking the puzzle has been solved. He told us that jungle owls usually produce such screams!

I love holidays! They represent all things fun, exuberance and celebratory! It’ a time where we can spend quality time with our family and friends, and take pleasure in the wonderful day off in which the holiday provides. Be it Christmas, Deepavali, Chinese New Year or Hari Raya, these holidays brings about a coalesced meaning of merriment with my family. Sometimes, I “celebrate” these joyous occasions with a cup of nicely brewed tea whilst reading my favourite novel, otherwise, I’ll be spending it with my family and friends, going out places and so forth. Food is a must during these occasions! From roasted turkeys to mutton kurmas to mandarin oranges to chicken rendang, festive food are a favourite with everyone! I hope you had a great Raya and more joyous ones awaiting you. :)
