Competitions

Have you ever compared prices at different shops, shopping malls, and outlets? If you haven't acquired that habit, try scrutinizing the decor, service and ambience in your favourite restaurant, and compare it with one of your friend's choice, or worse, another which does not even exist in your list. Let's admit that as consumers, we enjoy the benefit of competition among service providers and business ventures. Imagine if we are doomed with only one shop around the corner, and one miserable restaurant at another, what will happen to our lives?

The situation above shows how much we appreciate competitive spirit in business. Now, let's bring this matter closer to us as in the academic setting - competitions in getting good grades and ending up in the Dean's list. Wow! For those who have been there, what does it feel to win the challenge? Even within the classroom, we can see students compete for attention, participation, and marks. Is this healthy?

Outside the classroom, there are events and activities for us to make our lives more colourful. There are charity projects, educational programmes, sports events, and there are also - competitions. Without them, life can be monotonous and mundane. There are competitive events like sports tournament, public speaking competitions, innovation and research competitions, debates, etc. What kind of experience do we get from our participation in the respective competitions? How do we feel about it? Does winning and losing matter so much more than the true spirit of competition? Do we have to instill this competitive spirit in our younger generation, or will it soon come around naturally?

As an adult, I have gone through this cycle of learning and experiencing the ups and downs of competitions through and through. Competitions keep you on your toes all the time...they really boost your morale particularly when you win, but teach you to muster enough courage to confront the obstacles when you lose and fall. As a lecturer, I always try to motivate my students to join competitions, and create opportunities for them to channel the competitive nature.

As a parent, I also encourage my children to participate in competitions, no matter what entail. Recently, they joined the events at Taman Warisan Putrajaya in conjunction with the Agro Bazaar. Farah was 2 X champion, for colouring contest, and fruit puzzle competition. Nadia also won third place for fruit puzzle competition. I think the children had a good taste of success gained through patience, determination and zest. Not many children would be willing to sacrifice their weekends at home just to participate in competitions. Thumbs up girls:)

I believe many of you share the same passion for competitions. Without this adrenalin-pumping activity, life will never be another mark in history! As long as we observe the ethics and values, our participation in competitions will be worthy, indeed.

All in all, its agreed that competitive spirit strives people to do better. It gives you the 'push' in doing something. Like when you know you need to study but yeah, you're just too lazy to do it! Right? Guess what gets you back on track? EXAMS!!! Yeah that's another example of the push. You apply it here, at the competitive spirit. It says to you, "Get moving, girl!"

Losing competitions though, isnt so pretty. Following my own experience, whenever I lose a competition, it makes me bitter and reluctant. I'm not a sore loser, I just hate losing. In effect, you know what I do? I dont join any competitions until I completely forget my previous loss. Its true! *nods*

So what I'm trying to say is, not everyone immediately knows how to benefit from losses and wins. People mostly neglect all the morality in their doings. You better believe it.

At least, for the people who read this blog, they'd probably understand a little better. But hey, the outside people still dont, no?

Get out there and educate them! *wink*

Talk about competition, I'm sure that you all ever participate in any competition. For me, I very enjoy taking part in competition (but no competition need me stay in front of audience).I'm always taking part in Word Puzzle in newspaper, sudoku challenge and lot more.
For me, taking part in competition make we much more mature. This is because, when you taking a competition, you need to be ready in every aspect, your minds, your body, your soul and much more. This what you need to do if you want to win the competition. For me, winning competition can satisfied myself.
Competition also make we learn how to improve ourself in other competition. For example, we taking speech competition and we lose the competition. From that, we try to recognize what make we lose and what more need to do to win in next competition. So from this, we have learn something.
So..competition is not something like a child game.We need to be serious when participating any competition. Maybe in competition also, your talent will make you famous..Who know? Lets just try it

Actually in our real life now, there are lots of competitions that we had. Whether the competition is good or not. Some type of competitions is good. For those who are losing in the competition is a good thing. It can make us feel that we must try again and again to brush up our weakness and make us become more confident to join a competition. Like say study, some of them got good greats in the exam. Actually we also can. But we must have the skill and try harder to get good greats also, then when you deserve it. That’s also a kind of the competition between you and yourself. And people never know about that, because you actually want to improve yourself.
Sometimes for those who think negatively, they will say that the person cheating or some else, and they always feel that they just want to attract attention because joining the competition. This is so wrong and we cannot have this thinking in our mind. It will have lots of disadvantages thing if like this....
at least participation in the competition can build up you mind setting which is good or not...

To acquire any skill at all; to become proficient in any art; to do anything worthwhile, one must be enthusiastic. of course, since all of us can't be fortune enough to be instrumental in causing great things to come about. well, on a more ordinary level, enthusiasm makes anything and everything easier to accomplish. if you are the kind of person who simply abhors writing letters, stop considering it a chore. approach it wit enthusiasm and you will start looking forwrd to letter writing. all im trying to bring out here is that you can't really be interested in wutever if you're not enthusiastic about them. bring in the enthusiasm to the competition you enter.

Competitions are practically a healthy sport, no denying it! But certain competitions... just dont take part in it. Believe me, 'mat rempit' has a competition every night. Illegal racing i also one competition, however it isn't a competition normal people would take part in.

Certain people has the tendency to take part in silly competitions that can cost them their lives and its real bad. And certain escapes make them feel good about themselves, even knowing how risky it is.

But it aint all that bad. I mean, certain other competitions can be a good escape, like for people with fear of the crowd, by participating in competitions like public speaking, they could taste how is it to really experience being perhaps, one sort of a leader... And people that love to fight, debate might be a healthy way to fight...

push aside, small competitions like collecting candies will get children to interact among each other while instilling a sense of competition when they grow up.

Come to think of it, we've been competing since we were kids, regardless silly or serious and the biggest pleasure from the competition was the sense of winning and the friends you make out of it as well as the fun you had participating.

Think about it, when you get to solve a SUDOKU puzzle, how do you actually feel? I know I feel great!

I do sometimes take part in certain competitions. Recently, I participated in Uniten Bowling Tournament ( I have been forced by my housemates) and surprise, I won a hamper. After the tournament I realize that competition do make us realize of our abilities. For me, competition is a field where we get know of ourself better. In particular competition, we’ll know our own capability and limitation. For me, enjoy and gain experience are the main reason I enter particular competition. Winning is second thing to think of. Beside, every competition have different inputs.

Competiton , its a natural process in human life . But as we all know the biggest competetor in life is life itself. It started ages ago in the barbaric times , when human's compete each other for food and territory . Then it evolved from there to the modern era of nowadays , where human's compete each other in every way posible ,to get jobs, contracts ,political positions and for many other reasons which sometimes doesnt make sense .

All this links up to what Pn.Zue has said in her article , the competitons teaches us new values in life , for an example we can posibly make new friends through competitons , we can also be learning to be better through the experience we get through competitions . Tournaments like soccer matches opens a medium for the players to meet each other and exchange knowledge to help make each other better .

Self confiedence must be there for a person to be excelent in thier competitons . With the full spririt and determination in our selfs , we can go to the battle field while knowing , we have prepared , we have what it takes , we have the full strength to win in what we are competing in . We can take the public speaking competition in our class for an example , with enough self confidence and support , we can easily deliver our speech without hesitations , nervousness , trembling hand and fast heart beat rates . As quoted by the great president of united states , Robert F. Kennedy , Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly. So the confidence must be there .

So win or loose , we must compete to gain what's in life for us.....

I am not a super-competitive person ...... until recently (started university). I take pride in myself when i score higher in tests and examinations than my peers. Now, I am more competitive academically as it is probably the only thing that im good at - im not the sportiest person around, and i suck at video games. In the future, i plan to be more competitive in terms of being more social. I want to get to know everyone!~ Competition are awesome in the sense that it makes us on the edge of our seat and prevents us from letting our guard down. Being a competitive person, i always want to win. 2 months ago, i joined the UNITEN paintball competition and damn it was one of the wisest decisions i've ever made in my life! Together with my 6 other teammates, we played 4 rounds in the first day. I learned so many lessons that day - practice makes shooting perfect (it's far from a real gun), dont bother over dropped shoes (makes you a sitting duck), teamwork, and most importantly, winning or losing doesn't matter all that much. It's the experience that I had undergo that is the most valuable. Many years from now, i can recall this moment and maybe tell this to my friends as a funny, interesting story so that we can laugh together.

competition is one medium for anyone who loves a challenge. This medium to measure the ability of a person who is interested in activities, sports or anything that involves competition. People like this are very keen to challenge and not afraid of defeat. when he won a competition, we will feel that we are able to do something. to participate in the competition, we can reduce the sense of shame, and added confidence in themselves. In conclusion, this game can provide inspiration and satisfaction to some people. but if you lose do not give up, we should try again. =)

Either we win or lose its all depends on our effort towards it.if we put less effort. so it will come like a small peanut . maybe half of it? why not we put high effort if we know we can make it? sure we feel like we need to be a successful person in a competitions.so, in my opinion, in competitions, if there are no effort, it sure will be a living corpse on battlefield. thats all :D

I've always being competitve. Competition is my world. I always want to compete with others. Whether its inside the classroom on in a sports activity. It always brings out the very best of me and it always drive me to my maximum limit of capabilities. In the classroom i always want to compete with intelligence to score high grades, win a debate or giving more ideas to my group so we can have more grades than others. It does not only help me but it also helps others around me to get good grades too. While in sports its another type of competition for me. This is because i play rugby and i love playing the game. Its a rugged game that your team must score and prevent the other team from scoring. When playing rugby i always hit my opponent really hard so they can feel our message that we are not here to make up the numbers in a pool but we are here to compete for the finals.
"If you think that you will lose, you have already lost so think positive." When in a competition i always bare in mind to be modest in victory and gracious in defeat.

Competition means fight or struggle for our own survival in all aspects of our lives. It has been existing since we were born and it is just an healthy nature. We started competing in our live for the time and attention of our mother during infant time, where we were crying for milk or whenever our nappy was due.

In growing process, we faced different kind of competitions all the way until our current age. We even compete among our sibling at home. When we come to schooling atmosphere, we started competing with our classmates or schoolmates for the educational achievement. Without being competitive, we will not have fighting spirit and tend to be complacent with our lives as there will not be any yardstick or target for our life achievement. This scenario, if it does exist, will definitely ruin our life objective that needs self development.

Everybody that live in this world is ambitious and has objective in his/her life. As such, they need to compete for them to succeed especially in this “dog-eat-dog” kind of life in this modern world.

All aspects of life need to face competition, be it for food, space, job, business, etc. Those who dare not to compete will not succeed or left behind.

Life is not about victory alone. We need to accept the fact and must improving ourselves so that we may do better in the future.

In my opinion, competition among us is healthy. It is because competition teach us about determination, the courage to push ourselves over our limit in just to achieve our goals. Apart from that, if life there's no competition, as mentioned in the post, it will be boring and monotone. Not just that, competition too creates a healthy bond among the competitors. Furthermore, competitions is not all about winning and losing but it's all about having fun on what we're doing and giving our best into it. If we lose in a competition, it's okay, because losing helps us to look back into our mistakes and prevent it next time, not just that, losing too will make us even more determined to win the game. In contrast, if we win a game, it'll make us happy of course but also makes us want to improve better in our skill or strategy so we can keep on winning the next round. Another thing about competition is that we get to use our creativity, physical and IQ. To conclude it, yes. competition is healthy for us.

As a student is not only study to get knowledge, not every knowledge we can learn in just reading books. To make your life more successful, all you need to prove yourself. Competition is a way to prove yourself to unlimited. Competition is everywhere, just you need to push yourself to join it. Winning or losing is not important, the most important is the experience we get it in the competition. Lastly, the experience is the key to take yourself to the next level.

I do agree with the fact that competitions motivates people get out of their comfort zone. I also believe that competitions drives innovation, as without companies competing for a better market share there wouldn't be any new/innovative products in the market. Everyone has been competitive at some point in their lives, probably from a very young age albeit not being aware of what they were doing. Instilling a sense of competitiveness from this young age will help on in their day to day life by giving them motivation to do better than their peers, but winning isn't everything. Win or lose the feeling of exhilaration of competing is reward enough for and doing it with a team which you are comfortable in also gives you a sense of contentedness(coming from experience with my high school class in the drama and debate competitions). If I could, I would try to encourage people to join more competitions s it is a healthy habit. All in all, being competitive is healthy for the mind as well as the body(just do it in moderation as too much of a good thing could be bad for us).

But it is also true that for the most part, competition in life is a self-imposed or at least self-selected condition.Every student had positive experience with competition.Competition brings a variable into the equation that shifts the participants attention from the task itself to attention to the cost of their performance in the task.Well people should break a leg and create a more competitive world in the future so that some of us had positive experience with competition.

Competition for me is necessary if you never participate in any of it. Why is it necessary? It can help you to establish your own self-esteem and develop the confidence in you for the real life situation. For example, public speaking competition. It will help a person to manage how to speak into the public, at the same time helps you to throw away the fear when speaks to the crowd of people. For me winning the competition is not an issues. Even though you lose, the experience you have in the competiton will help to enhance yourself. If you winning the competition it will be count as bonus because you have a talent and very good at it. I conclude that getting into a competition is necessary and winning it is not that important. The important things is you have enter a competition and at the same time you has improve yourself greatly.

To lose a competition is a heart breaking though but look at the bright side, it helps us to grow stronger. Losing a competition doesn't mean you lose yourself. It motivates you to work hard and to stand strong. But, be careful. Having a competitive spirit is good but it really has to be in a good way. I once enter a coral speaking competition. Even though my team only finished on 3rd, but i do learn so many things. From this, i learn what is mean by enemy, how to respect them, how to face enemy, train without eating, loss of group member, loss of teacher which is the only hope for my team, how to give a commitment and last but not least, how to deal with defeat. From what i have gone through, i realise now, competition is norm of life. We are all born to compete. Competitions give many experience to us as students and future generation. Experience make us perfect. If we lose in a competition it give a will of fire that will knowledge us they are many students more skilful than us. So it help us to improve our skill. Competition also give us the ability to handle loss. It’s better to us to lose in competition than winning. Winning give us happiness and even worst it give us ego. For me, being in a competition is the best teacher. No matter if we are winning or losing, competition build ourselves in its own way. Winning a competition will surely give us some boost in confidence. . For instance, winning the next top model, will give that girl confidence to becoming herself without being pressured by the social demand. Losing on the other hand teach us to be strong and keep improving. Like my grades for instance. For every test i am taking, if it is a failure. I will aim higher for the next test. For what? To be the best in my studies which for me is the never ending competition.

Competition is an activity for people to find their unknown talent and to develop more confidence in themselves.Despite of knowing competitions as a healthy lifestyle, I would rather conclude them in the other way round. There are pros and cons in competition but people nowadays may look at it differently. The people who compete in competition nowadays is eager to win to attain fame and name which everyone would talk about rather than having the true feeling of sportsmanship. The society nowadays care more about the prizes and accomplishment rather than having a good friend and mostly in the competitions, we create more enemy than friends. People will acknowledge you if you are a good rival with good sportsmanship. I wish everyone realize the importance of being a good competitor.

Starting from primary school until now, I'm one of the people who like to take part in competition .For me there is no question about win or lost but more important is to take part for it. By participating the competition we can get many advantage such as getting to know many friend, gaining experiences, release tension and others. So i dunno why many of us who are still reluctant to join the competition.

Competition for a athelete is winning the game that he/she participate by representing a country. Competition for us as a student of university is to get a high CGPA and it is not enough, you have to be excellent for your cocu, so that why Uniten will ensure that all of us have to get the minimum scorun for our cocu if not cannot graduated or proceed for your degree/ master programme. It will help us a lot for being a person that become professional person is some league and also very active and multitasking for the job

In my humble opinion, competition is good in every possible way. Whether we win or lose is a whole different story, what matters is that we stood up, we fought and compete to achieve the best that we can. Competing ensures that we are in our prime state to achieve glory. Even if we fail to win, we can rectify the cause of our failure thus improving ourselves along the way. To sum it all up, competition makes us wake up everyday, pull our pants up and strive for greatness.
