The Nervous Speaker

What should you do if you suffer from nervousness every time you are assigned to speak in public? It sounds almost threatening to even admit that public speaking has become so essential nowadays. In other words, you just can't ignore or avoid it.

Particularly for students, oral presentations and speeches make up a handsome portion of the assessment. For working adults, the talent and ability to speak eloquently in public may promise promotions, popularity and influence. Hence, experts advise handling this phenomenon with care as it may impinge your reputation, career and future.

Some people claim that nervousness is a normal experience for beginning speakers. I agree. With adequate exposure and practice, things will look better. Maturity and experience in life mould composure in public speakers.

When I started public speaking, I remember the painful jitters and tremors. I told myself that I should find strategies to prevent the audience from noticing my nervousness. I memorized my speech and presented it with proper modulation of voice and eloquence. Later, I developed the habit of reading so that I could talk and argue on almost anything, with conviction. Some topics may be difficult, so I took the trouble to prepare and do sufficient research.

There are loads of advice on how to handle nervousness in public speaking in the market. Nevertheless, you must select the most appropriate for your personality and oratory skills.The list can go on, but does any of the tips to combat nervousness work for you? Do you actually need 'prescription' or does the remedy actually develop with age and familiarity?

Whatever your public speaking experience entails, please remember that nervousness shouldn't impede determination to explore this realm of elegance. I wish you all the best in your future speaking endeavours.

Nervous speaker?
yes i am..not just nervous..shyness,fear,lack of confidence,and lack of knowledge is all my problem actually.
As i say to you in my email,during my impromptu speech in your class is my first time experience speeking in public + in english!:)
It was a wonderful experience that i would not forget for whole my life im sure:)
so night before that i call my mom.She give me a support and i really appreciate it.Plus i read you article title 'My first speech-My debut'it really2 give me something that can give me a strong spirit to speeking infront people.
But i still feel nervous on that day.Moreover i was the first speeker on that day.Before i start i remember back what my mother say night before that.."jangn takut,cakap je ape yang ana tahu,bukan xde hidung,xde mulut nk takut,believe on your self ok?im sure my daughter can do it":)
sorry Puan Zue,i wrote in malay what my mother say,just want to share with you the secret word that really2 give me support on that day:)
And also your word in your article.It really2 makes me think that public speeking is a normal thing that all of us will face with it in our world nowadays.
So,why i have to worry about it right?
Just do it as much as i can and i hope i will do better for my next public speeking.

OMG, speaking in public in a formal situation was not good for me in my schooldays.

If one has a cold and has to speak in public by way of a public address system, my advice is- DON'T. I learnt that the icky way. If you can't get out of it go to the Doctor. Tell the Doctor you need to dry out your nose particularly for that event- they have some pretty cool and strong stuff. Remember to tell the Doctor that being sleepy is not an option neither is being incoherent. In my day- the day of my undoing, the ceiling was positively dripping when I had to inhale with my runny nose. I list it as one of my life's most embarrassing moments.

Secondly, know your stuff. If you don't, then research. Learning is not only about about finding out things, it is also about knowing where to look for the information you need if and when you need it. So the saying goes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. But then again, so is not knowing how to pretend to portray to others that you do know, when in actual fact you really don't. 50% of confidence is pretence, I guess.

Thirdly, It helps to be coherent and articulate. As the professor said in My Fair Lady, "If you don't say what you mean, you don't mean what you say". Pre-empt any questions that you think people may ask. It shows intelligence. Qualify, qualify, qualify.

Fourthly, practise makes perfect. Even the most seasoned lawyer rehearses his speech. At the least in his mind. Speaking of the cuff can be disastorous. Appoint somebody- a friend or a professional to listen and comment. A well known lawyer pays another well known psychologist to play this role for him for high profile cases. (Note to self- New career oppurtunity).

Fifthly, talk as if you are 1. THE AUTHOURITY on the subject, and, 2. That the listener is not the sharpest pencil in the pencil case. Start from the start. Articulate your ideas.

Being prepared, one can actually have fun speaking in public.

To get rid of the butterflies I would recommend- Just Do It. Even the professionals have butterlies the first few times. If you are lucky enough they never disappear- :-). The good thing being in an academic environment is that one is expected to blunder. When one speaks in public often enough the butterlies disappear.

nervous??arghhh...i'm once of your student who are have nervous in myself.nervous always make me desperate,mdm..Desperate to be myself.seriously,i hate tht feeling damn much..

My first speech in UNITEN ws a few weeks ago..thanks to mdm because gve me a chance for speech in front of my classmates.hehe.at tht time,im very2 nervous and i try to be the best.hurm,its not easy 2 throw tht feeling lor.i'm became blur and errrrrrr.=(.(speechless)..no idea and stuck.hoho.wht did i do tht time??hurm,its maybe my secret but,i would like to share it with all and especially to you.huhu.first of all,i try to breathe smoothly and try to lookd at wall.in the middle of speech,im lost.hihi

cant thinkd what should i talked about,and what i hve done.hurmmm.its because of nervous and totally worse..tht time,i try to lookd at my friends at the back,joel,aisyah,iera,and sateesh.they gve me support and i try to talkd with myself 'i can do it..come on ecot..'..heeee..

other that that,the main thing did i do in my speech on tht day ws lookd 100% to my mdm..mdm zue..she gve me a lot of spirit.she sitted at the back and straight foward to me.i saw her face wants something interesting from me or from all speaker.thts why i try to speak together wif the spirit from her and sometimes im 'over-acting'maybe because of my overconfident.i dont care wht wre people traduced me tht time because i did it only for my mdm and also for my first speech in UNITEN..haha..XD..

how to conquer my nervousness in public speaking??for me,we shouldn't looks at audiences very often.why?because for me,its not help us in speech and maybe sometimes it make us become shy.hoho.try to be yourself when you r in public speaking.throw out whats ur idea and try to be strong.For muslims,dont 4get to recite the doa first before you stand and gve a talk to others.its may help you to reduced ur nervous.i.ALLAH..XD..

i hope,in informative speech,all my classmates can be the best speaker and presenter..i.ALLAH..XD..thanks again to my lovely madam 4 teached us how to speak in public.heee...we love u very much mdm!!MAY ALLAH BLESS U..┏(* ̄▽ ̄)┛..

salam pn zue...as u know..i did badly for my impromptu speech...i'm not sure wht was the problem..but 1 thing tht i know is tht day...before i get my speech..i'm exicted...i feel like 'hey its great...i cn do smthng diff today..'...then..when i get the title...n it was kinda relaxing because i did read the article in ur blog about public speaking 2 or 3 days before the evaluation day...but somehow...when its my time to talk..i donno how to say...but i think nervousness make me keep on looking on the small paper and i feel like i'm lack of ideas..actually its so frustrating...i think i can do better...but its end up like that...=(
but next time i'll make sure i'll try my best to do better...i wont let nervousness conquer myself..

Public Speaking is really a nightmare YET it gives us a spectacular experience , indeed .

Well, yes yes NERVOUSness. Its remind me the Impromptu Speech that i've delivered before. Eventhough its not my first time but still i'm clouded with nervous. My hands shaking, my legs shaking, everything was cold and i can barely move . HAHA! So, i tried to think positive, you know .. "your friends can do it, and why you can't?" and i'm telling myself for the zillionth time.. it'll be absolutely fine :) (i know its NOT). HAHA . but i have to do that because it makes me feels confident.

The minutes when i stand infront. The nervous grow.. but i've tried to deal with it by smiling at my friends, try to find someone that u close with..they'll support u, u should do that, it makes u feels comfortable (a lil!). Apart from smiling , laugh a little, you see .. it won't hurt you, it makes u feels calm but please don't overdo it. HAHA! Other than that, try to walk .. a little bit to the left then to the right ..it makes u feels like an expert public speaker ;p .

Lastly, as you know, everyone will have this experience. Its up to u to find the way how to deal with the nervousness that suits u. Just don't stop practising, if u practice everyday u'll find yourself that nervous will...gone. Don't let the "nervousness" stop u from trying. Feeling nervous in public is perfectly natural, u just have to face it.. or else u won't be able to ...develop yourself. hehe.

yes..we all should called as nervous speaker as we're a beginner to be a public speaker...but peoples said tht,we would nver frget our 1st experiences to speak infront of public as most peoples are afraid to speak infront of many ppls..but then,this public speaking its really important to everyone as it can help us to communicate very well with the others..and
i agree with u tht maturity and experience need for public speaker..

when i started my 1st public speaking,i developed a habit like,i want to talk or communicate with other ppl by using english language as i know..if i use malay language all times, how come i can improve and smoooth out my english skills? as since i was born,i used to speak in malay eveydays plus chinese coz i used to school at chinese school from standard 1 till standard 3...so,it encourages and convinve me tht,dont be shy to speak in english although it might broken or whtsoever..

lastly,we all need to keep try and try and practice everyday..so tht u'll do better in ur future..^^

nervous is not the problem that i'll face when i need to speak in public.Im one of the thousand people who face stammering or syllables problem in communication.So,it will be much much difficult if i have to speak in public.Despite that,i'll try to do my best in this subject.

During my impromptu speech in our class..i was really nervous before my name has been called...but then...when i was standing infront my nervousness gone.....dnt know y?? but still there is something that made me feel nervous....i think that my confidence level.....im really lack of confidence.....when i see the croud i feel like "OH MY GOD..WHAT IM GONA TALK"....So, i hope i'll do the best after this....

well, nervous speaker???
yes... honestly... i am a nervous speaker... im not sure whether you all realize that im really shakking when having the impromptu speech last week... gosh... i felt like dying on that time... blur... n my mind was empty! Actually... im not really bad in speaking english... most of the days i always speak it with my friends especially my indian friends...
but the reason why i cant present it well last time is because of my nervousness... this really affect me alot... whenever my name is called... my heart beat rapidly...
i hope someone can give me some tips on how to overcome my problem... huhu...

The first time i was nervous, i was talking to my first crush. I was shaking in front of her. Making a total fool of myself. I rather make a speech than to talk her. It was frightening.
The only way I overcome it was to avoid her. In other words I run away. hehehahaha. It was very funny. I never saw her since. :) And it was ok.
As to the informative speech, I admit I didn 't do very well, in my expectation. hehehehe. But, with some imagination i overcome the barrier. By imagining that everyone was someone else in the room. By pretending that everyone is someone familiar or funny.
This makes things easier, and less awkward, This is a very useful ingredient in public speaking :)

i experienced that kind of feeling tOO..not only nervous i think..i also feel so shy..it is not my first time speaking in front of public actually but it my first time speaking in front of you..hmmm..u're great in speaking mam..that's why i feel like that..
i always impressed by the way you talk,the way you deliver your speech. One thing that i'm confused,why i can't do well in my impromto becoz i have practiced..never mind..the past is past..

I'm one of that type of speakers actually. It's been so hard for me to speak in front of a group of people. All sorts of fear came to me when I have to speak in public.During my impromptu,I've tried my best to hide my nervousness.I've tried to imagine many wonderful things during my impromtu in order to calm myself from nervous.Plus,I've also tried to imagine that our class during that day was empty without none of my friends. So,it's easier for me to concentrate on my speech (:

For you information,i'm the one from people who nervous when talk as public speaker..When talk in front,i do not know what all word out from my mouth,this is maybe am nervous when standing in front..

With limited time,5 minutes to gather information about a topic,i also try to tell myself that i can do it when the time is over..This is because we all in education,so,thats why i no need to became shy and afraid to do some mistake..we can learn something by mistake what we have done before,right??

But,after i did the speech..I still bad when talk in front,thats why i must learn,learn and learn to gain knowledge and try to avoid nervous when talk in front:D

i used to be a nervous speaker..but it was about 2 years ago..i still remember the 1st time i enter debate competition but it was in malay then..i'm the third speaker so i dont have any text to support n help me..since it was my 1st experience, i felt so nervous..i felt like throwing up and getting fever..it was so bad..i can even speak..i juz stand there..i took almost 2 minutes to start my speech..i give 1 point and then quickly end my speech..of course our school lose because of me..n i felt down..really really down..i couldn't even look at my teacher's face..i felt so guilty..but my teacher said it is ok.."dah takde rezeki nak buat macam mana"..

the next year i enter the competition again both for malay n english debate team..my english debate team trainer is my english teacher..she was aware of my problem and she made us practice everyday..it was almost 2 weeks i didnt enter my class..during the practice, she put us in hall and we must debate witf form 6 student in front of a noisy form 1 class..oh god i dont know how to explain the situation..it make my head spinning..but from day to day, i dont feel nervous anymore..it do help me to do well during both competition..

another way that i learnt to avoid nervous is to imagine that we are talking to ourself..juz imagine the audience is not a living things such as pillows or trees..

Actually when i read this post,something tells me that this is my type of speakers.from what i know that i've been exposed to public for so long but nervous thing cannot go away.I try to defeat my nervous when i've joined nasyid and dikir barat club at my school but the nervous 'guy' still there...but when i try to calm down and be serious i can overcome this 'guy'...so guide me to a better speaker.

anybody will feel nervous when trying something new or..do aything work infront of audience...but we must take our nervous as normal feel...like u mention in class before impromptu speech..i have try to take it as normal..
but i can't..it still get nervous when i come infront a group of audience..

i dont know how to ignore this feeling when i have to face it,...
that is before....now,..i'm in process to improve my speaking skill with speaking with my friend..

but....from my experience..dont easily give up..

when i talking with my friends..somehow.,grammar mistake always occour...huk3...they always laugh and comment me when i get wrong...hehehe....for me,..that good..bcause i can learn from mistake....

last but not least,...i must sleeping now..sorry...hek3..i hope my second speech next week,i do not get nervous again...and i must do my best...yeeeaahhh!!!!"i can do it..!!hehehehe....

the nervous speaker??? i like this entry because its related with me..i've a problem when i want to speak in public because i'm nervous and lack of confident..for your information,the impromptu speech is my first time i speak in public in English..before i done it i'm very excited because i got support from my brothers n my friends..they said no need to be afraid and they said i can do it!!!but when the time i need to speak,i become nervous because i've not so much idea on my tittle...i beleive that all can be a speaker juz they and i dont know how to manage the nervousness.....

this entry is an interesting entry coz it is related to me and for sure related to all of your students...am i nervous??? yes, for sure i'm a nervous speaker... as you can see went i do my impromptu speech evaluation, i'm so nervous until a paper that i hold was tattered...huhu. as you said, i really don't know what happen to me that time coz that was my bad performance...i know i can do much better, you also know right..???to me, all speakers out there have a nervous feeling...it is impossible no one nervous when speak in front of a thousands of people...but, to reduce it, there are a lot of ways to reduce nervous when speak in public...the first thing is, as you always said in our class, always practice, practice and practice...like us as your student, you always mention that practice in blogger sphere to express our opinion so that as the same time we can perceptive our knowledge....it is true, we need a lot of knowledge if we want to be a public speaker coz knowledge can sharpening our skills of speaking and can make us confident and no doubt...second things is, don't over confident... i've learn it from my friend, she really confident can do it but when she got her topic and then her turn to gave speech, she's just can't do it...to me, don't over confident...just be yourself and tell yourself you can do it!!!haha.
and the last thing is, just relax and enjoy when presenting your speech!!

huhuu...i'm one of the nervous speaker..i try so hard to prevent the nervous while the impromptu speach before..i had motivated myself to do not so nervous because its only a speach in front of my friends n they not an animal who wanna eat me..but when i stood in front, the motivate cannot help to protect me from "the power of nervous" haha...like a monster in Ultraman story..huhu..sorry for the childish story..i admit that i'm a nervous speaker...but somehow i must try to prevent the nervous so that i can be a good speaker...which me luck mdm.tq.

Nervousness is like a big bus that blocks ur eyesight(speech presentation) when u are driving a 'kancil' right behind it..on the road...would u just continue to stay behind the bus until the end of the journey?No...you won't right?Of course u won't..you would find way..speed up and make it to the front of the bus...that is..you would try your very best..to present your speech...despite all those nervousness...which is something that you really should do.Let go of all those fears inside of you by letting out the words in the form of speech...filled with emotions and feel...flowing through the speech.Ones our attention is in the speech,we would no longer feel the nervousness...infact...we would feel of not finishing the speech,and and to keep on talking to the audience..Nervoussness always held me back when I'm about to present or while giving the speech...But I'm still trying to neglect the fear in me...still trying..what I usually do when I'm in fear in presenting a speech is..
I always just speak out..that is..giving speech without any feel or emotion..in malay..'tidak ada perasaan'..but I really want to improve..and I'm trying my very best as well..I always try to improve myself in doing anything...including in giving a speech..I won't say this as a secret ingredient in conquering my nervousness in public speaking..but my courage to improve is the one pushes me in improving myself..I always feel so tensed up thinking of why can't I be like others in giving out my voice..that tension is always the one that I develop in me,to give me strength to speakup....

Good morning pretty lady!

Hurm... Nervous? What kind of nervous? Nervous breakdown? Nervous system? Or what? huhuhu...
Nervousness is a condition of being rather frightened. Everyone must have their own experience when they are getting nervous. This situation are usually happen when they have been chosen to be a speaker and speak in front of the audiences.

Actually, I love to speak and for your information, I always taking part in many competition such as choral speaking, forum, story telling, public speaking and many more in my schooldays. It's awesome! But now, when I entered you class, I felt uncomfortable because I've no confidence and getting nervous to speak in front of my fellow friends in ENGLISH! Why??? It's just because, I can't speak well in ENGLISH. huhuhu... Pity of me.

Now what I've to do is, I must the try my best to improve my ENGLISH and try to be more confidence when I've to speak in front of other people. Be strong! Be confidence! Be whatever I want! Do pray for me and wish me luck Puan Zue.

nervous??hmmm...yes, I am always nervous when I have to talk in front of public. As you can see when I do the impromtu speech last month, I try my best not to be nervous that day..But I really don't know what happen to me, it's not easy to throw away the feeling,huhu..Actually I have a confidence to talk before the class started,but I really never imagine that the topic is so hard for me to talk..I can't find the point about "landscape" in the time that given,it is so bad,and I can't control my nervousness..OMG!!..

Erm, I don't think it is the last time for me to talk in public, time is waiting for me, maybe next month I have to talk in front of public again,who knows...What I can say just I have to be ready on anytime..I will try my best. InsyaAllah.

It's been a wonderful momment for me to step in front. Feels like the world listen to me.. I belive there are a pro and contra about nervousness.. Nervous mean having a feeling of unease or apprehension(answers.com). And in y opinion, the unease thought can be slowly remove from our self by having a self confident.. Belive that evryone have thier own talent and think that we all got the same brain and why i/we cannot perform like other people.. I admit that i'm really nervous when the first time i speak in front of each other.. And until now i feels that nervousness too when i speakup.. But alhamdulillah, i have such a dedicated lecturer like Puan Zue that teach and always encourage me to speakup and i think i will feel nervous when i'll called to give speech but perhaps there are less nervousness and shaking compare to the first time i talked in front of peoples.. It's not big iprovement of me for Puan maybe but it's a big improvement for me.. And last but not least, my inspiration are all peoples I love all the peoples that have been sacrifice to me..

I think i'm also one of the nervous share. I realize that i have many ideas to be shared but eventually something is stopping me. So i have to admit that this course helped me a lot. This is my first time participating in public speaking. Actually i feel shy to speak up when there is people that i dont know around me. I realised that at the beginning of my impromptu, i felt really nervous. But as i start talking, i feel good n i enjoy talking.This is when i'm really prepared with good points and facts. I feel very nervous if i'm not prepared. When my friends wan talking in front of the class, my heart screams thT "oh my god! if i've got this topic, i really have a lot of points to talk about. But when it comes to my turn, i feel like is topic given to me is really hard. When my classmates are speaking, i like to observe them. If they perform well, i feel encouraged that i must do better tahn this. If they are nervous, i feel nervous too and thoughts like "can i do it??" comes to mind.
But as time passes by, i start feeling comfortable with public speaking. I hope this course can help me to become a talented public speaker. Thank you!

"Nervous Speaker".1 of them u can consider me.I still can remember my first time be a speaker.A lot of things make me feel uncomfortable such as what must i do?what topic gonna be?...I never speak in english to the public.So i never have experience talking or be a public speaker.

I still can remember the time which i must do the impromptu speech.Only god know how i feel at that time.I only can remember my parents and also words from my dad.Its sound like this.."x pe..redah je.asalkan kite dah cube" although the word look funny but its give me the courage and new spirits to talk to the audience in english.

I think its normal for every one to be nervous because we want to share something to audience and they like give full attention to what the speaker gonna say.The attention that the audience give make the speaker becoming more nervous.Thats what i think.To prevent the audience from noticing our nervousness the speaker should think certain way.I agree what Pn zue say.By memorized the speech and develop our own way also can help us to talk.

Actually,we can control our level of nervousness.Like people say WHERE THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WAY.thats all for now.thanks :)

my tips when we too nervous just look people that look you with confident that i can do it..
like you do when i do my impromto..

Well, public speaking is a common source of stress for everyone. Many reasons why we feel nervous when we speak infront of audience. For me, sometimes I feel nervous when I speak in public because of lack of ideas, inadequate preparation, fear about not knowing what audience know or need to know and not confident to myself.

When I feel nervous, I will look at my friends who give me a support by their face expression. They smile and excited to hear my speech and it makes me calm and give me some ideas. Then, I will walk around to the left and right, make some jokes so that their enjoy and can accept my opinion.

Furthermore, a little nervousness is good. It gives me energy which help me to concentrate and feel on my speech.
The most important in speech is prepare and practice. For my first speech of impromptu speech, I didn’t prepare as well as I should have.
Oh, its really bad. I will make sure with every speech after that, my preparation techniques make it smooth and more better.

More, breath deeply and drink water before I go on will relax my body and mind.
Then, have some sweet like candy and chewing gum. Its really work to overcome my nervous. :D

Besides that, get close to audience. One of the ways is eye contact. Its really important when deliver a speech because it makes audience more focus , confident and accept with my points.

‘ If u don’t prepare , you’re only preparing to fail ’. It is the best phrase that always encourage me to get well prepared before deliver my speech.

that what happen to me when 1st time i speak in a class. but now, i know sometimes i feel nervouse, but its ok because everyone will feel it even he/she is a best speaker. maybe feel a little bit. but now, i feel ok when speak in a class. i also feel good when i get good mark in speaking test. nervous actually start from out mind. we can do(speaking) like we talk everyday. when we feel nervous if we want to speak, just ask our mind " why u always disturb my confident when i want speak!!". so for all, try your best. dont be so nervous when speaking in front people. do not scared what u talk is wrong. just accept what u talk all true. thats it. goodluck all. :)

Nervous is a feeling that will be experienced by all new public speakers.It also makes us forgot about what we are trying to deliver to the audience.

Learn to reduce nervousness from books will help a bit,but we need to motivate ourselves that we have to speak in front of people in order to get rid of the nervousness.

What I am trying to say is 'Do not wait until you are asked to speak,volunteer yourself and you are on your way to become a good public speaker!'

hi mam..me again ramesh...i'm once of your student who are have nervous in myself.nervous always make me desperate,mdm...wen the 1st speech which is impromptu speech make me vry nervous until my hand shaking... nervous make me reli panic n 4get wat to tok infrnt of ppl...to overcome The minutes when i stand infront. The nervous grow.. but i've tried to deal with it by smiling at my friends n u mam....

What that really surprise me is...
Not only in English class... but even in any other classes... I have no problem in deliver my speech...

Nervous speaker how should we handle that? Do we have neglected or considered it as a natural state can be disappeared through time?
That is very important for every one how wants to progress in his career or his life.
For my first experience I stood in front of students in English class, I just felt I can't keep going in my speech!!
That was reflecting negatively on my performance.
So at that time I started to think how I would oversee that obstacle, also I am going to study MBA which needs oral skills more than other studies????
By practicing and reading able me to delete this word "nervous" from my mind.
And have a good feel when I speak in English.
Day by day we will see this problem just gone, and have ability to do better and better.
Think about that and then start what you see it appropriate with your case.

Ok, ok, i admit that i am one of "them" - the generation Y with horrific communication skills.

I think that there are several reasons that lead to nervousness when speaking. The main reason is that I seriously lack practice. As the saying goes - practice makes perfect. I cant expect to be good at something that i dont do oftenly, isnt it? I am the only one to be blamed as I spent too much time using the computer and TV, which took up valuable time which could've been used to hone my speaking skills with friends and family. Secondly, nervousness surfaces when the perfectionism within me takes control of me, which interesting starts taking control whenever i have to speak up! Being a perfectionist, I have this tendency avoid mistake at all cost and feel the need to impress people. Now that i think about it, if i were to give a speech in front of a group of babies or my closest friends, i wouldn't be nervous at all! I dont need to impress them, and this nervousness just vanishes into thin air.

Being a smart student, I truly understand the things that i can achieve if i get this part of my life handled. So I had decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and really DO SOMETHING. Hence, 2 months ago, i started joining the Chinese debate team's activities, which includes learning how to debate, watching debate competition videos and even trips to Universiti Malaya to watch a real debate competition. If i can be good at debate, it'll surely solve most of my problems as it will make me think faster and critically, along with improved confidence and fluency when speaking. With a huge problem of fluency when speaking, I will also start to read my lecture notes ALOUD (in my room). I think that this is the "missing link". We, Malaysian students are never told about the importance of reading aloud. This is one of the ways to train ourselves to speak more fluently and louder (for free!).

In brief, the ability to speak well is priceless in this competitive era where we not only have to fight with Malaysian, but also people around the world. If one can speak splendidly, it will dramatically boost one's chances of success in one's life. Therefore we should never overlook the importance of overcoming the nervousness of speaking as leaving it unresolved will hinder one's success.

Yes,I m a nervous speaker...not only weak in my English and oso weak in the elaboration of idea...so public speaking to me is a problem...To me lack of confident is the mojor problem to me...tis make me becum nervous when i hv to face all the people in front...In addition,lack of practise is other problem...Usually student only will prepare the points and elaboration be4 the public speaking section...but when actually facing the people at the front...lots of eyes watching the 'performance' ....tis is another kind of stress for the speakers make them nervous...i noe nowadays communication skills are veli important..public speaking oso playing important role in the life in the future...so right now,as Malaysian students,we should handle all the problems we face during the public speaking...trying to perfonce a great show to all the people...

i am one of them, i feel shy n lack of confident when standing infront of public.
my first experience was when i am study at primery school.
at that time it was realy terrible for me. i feel like want cry...
when i finish talking nothing was happen, everthing is normal. i realize that it was normal problem for everbody.
my first experience was good but i feel nervous if want talk in public eventhough now.actually, i love to speak but i cannot make it when i feel it's goin to be hard. if i think like that, everthing be hard to me and something stop me. i feel difficult to cm out wit my ideas.
besides that, my speking skills and knowledge. my speaking skill mainly in english was not realy good.knwoledge was a big deal have to improve. i think if we have good speaking skils and knowledge it's not difficult to speak in public.
so, we have to partice for improve us, pratice will make us perfect. this will help us to break the ice and speak without nervousness.

I do agree with what MJ said about we would not be able to do something we did not do frequently or repeatedly. For me it is easy to write down or communicate in English using computer when we did not have to face the person we were talking to or did not speak it up out loud.
The last time I was involve with public speaking is in my first year of middle school at SMA(Arab) AN-NUR. It was a public speaking competition in the orientation week. I was chosen as the group public speakers three days before the final day of the orientation. To cut long story short, the day has come and I did not fully memorise what I should say. The moment I stand on the stage, I was trembling to death, stunned to see every eye was looking at me. At the very moment I realise my hands and feet were shaking hardly. I simply put the piece of paper of my speech into my pocket as to not show my hands were shaking. Then, something came up on my mind; it was my brother’s word he gave me the day before I got up the stage. There were once a wise Japanese man said “try to imagine everyone as a vegetable if you are afraid on stage”. Therefore, I tried and guess what? It works. My nervousness level has gone down drastically and I start speaking. For your information, I did all this in one breath. I told myself “They were veggies, what am I afraid of? ”. So, that is how I get rid of my nervousness.
Imagining people as veggies was not the only thing that gave me the strength to cover up my nervousness. I also add up my own theories or skill on how to avoid the issues. This maybe a copyright technique but please don’t put the blame on me because I never read much or heard it from somebody else. This was the result of try an error method. When you are on a public speaking, try not to focus on what you are looking with your eyes. Well, it is a public speaking and not a public sightseeing. Therefore, concentrate on what you are talking about. Blur your vision for a moment like you are daydreaming but please don’t daydreaming when you are on public speaking. Imagine what you are talking about, use body language to describe what you see. By using body language, you can make the public speaking much more interesting. Try to imagine you are listening to a public speaking which the speaker’s speak as a robot, no movement. Put a tone on it as Pn Zue use on her lecture. This will make people listen to your unpopular idea.

nervous speaker....yes i m...itzz reali big promblem 4 me when itzz come to public speking.Ahhhhh...I do remember ma chilhood time that my first days without the training wheels on ma bike...I fell nervous at the same time afraid to.. itzz olso makez mee more focus it and were ma family n friends standing on the sidewalk hoping me not 2 fail.same goes to public speaking also wen I Speaking with high energy while focused on m presentation itz make good benefits to audience.soo before v going onstage we should accept our nerves as part of being human, take several slow deep breaths, smile big and step onto the stage with energy and enthusiasm.we should getrid of fear n someother stuffs be confident in our self tatzz te main key TOo achieve excellence as a speaker.tatz what im trying 2 do in ma future....I WILL!!!

We have to be brave and confident so that the world can know us.Nervous speaker cannot go far in their life because how far they escape from giving a speech,but one day they have to talk and the world can evaluate you.

Its quite common that people got nervous when they are asked to speak in public or give a speech. I have to admit that I got nervous sometimes when I were ask to speak in public. There are ways to overcome the nervousness in us when we were asked to speak. We have to be prepared and brave to speak in public. If we are prepared to speak in public, we wont feel nervous anymore. What we will feel when we are prepared to speak is the fun and joy to speak in public. The joy in us when everyone is actually listening to you speaking, that is what we will feel when we are ready to speak in public. Besides that, being brave to speak in public could also overcome the nervousness in us. When we are brave enough to speak in public this means we are ready to speak and share our ideas, knowledge, etc with the audience. When we are brave to step up to a challenge, we will be prepared for it and will do our best in it. Hence, being brave to speak in public will overcome the nervousness in us and we will enjoy speaking in public.

Nervousness is a very common problem that everyone has to go through when it comes to public speaking.It actually depends on our skill to hide the nervousness and fake it so that the audience would feel comfortable with us.As for me,I have many problems when I had to talk in front of many people.I think it includes nervousness,fear of crowd and lack of confidence.Of course, I had come up with a solution to all the problems.My solution to these problems is I will give advice to myself before starting the speech.Firstly,I would give some motivation to myself as it helps me to overcome my nervousness.The motivation gives me more strength that would be really useful to me as a speaker.For example,when Pn.Zue says it is my turn next to talk,I tend to get too worried over the speech but at the same point I would tell myself that "I REALLY CAN DO THIS!!JUST GO OUT THERE AND TALK."After that,I feel much more better to present and share my opinion.Besides that,I would tell myself that this is a challenge for me.Therefore,I would give motivation to myself to win the challenge and change people's opinion about me as a speaker.Even if it necessary for me to force myself to do it,I would because it will definitely help me in future.When I take it as challenge I tend to have the urge to prove to people that I also have the potential and ability to talk and be a good speaker.In conclusion,all we have to do to be a good public speaker is to find a solution to overcome our nervousness so that we can be an excellant speaker.

Nervous is a normal feeling that all people have. When we stand in front of an audience, nervousness can make us freeze on the stage and make our speaking shutter. But, to be an excellent speaker we must know how to control our nervous by get prepared and think positive. First of all, before being a speaker out there, we must be ready of what we should say and do. We must know how to get audience's attention so that they will listen to us. Examples, we can used jokes and sometimes pressed on some word that is important. Practicing also can be a big help by increasing our confidence level. Next, we should think positive before giving a speech. We will feel nervous when standing on the stage, but we have to think that the audience wants the best from us. So,act cool and relax. Take our own time. Positive thinking also can make us believe that we can do public speaking. We'll trust ourselves and do our best as a speaker. Lastly, everyone cannot avoid nervousness. well the nervous speaker to me is one that simply has not spoken enough.i mean, weve been given the opportunity to be.... forced to speak in front of the class since we were maybe 7 years old. the ones that do, well lucky them, and how about the ones that dont? eventually as they grow up and the expectations rise, they will still have the level of speech of that of a 7 year old.. well maybe thats a bit exaggerated but u get what i mean. i know that not all of us get the privilege of being the teachers favorite, but that does not mean that we should shun away from trying. just take up the initiative and say "hey i wanna talk too so look at me" and u can ignore the odd looks everyones giving. but of course i dont mean that literally, only a crazy guy would do that and should well enough be looked at or rather examined. my point is that eventually with a lot of practice and a lot of experience we will soon level up to level 100 and not remain the noob.. uh.. not remain the nervous speaker and be the awesome high level speaker.

Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the greatest speaker of us all? Must we become the best speaker? Must we have talent to be a speaker?Although some people have thier own talents in giving a wonderful speech, but it doesnt mean that those without talents cant speak.
Nervousness will absolutely come when you are giving a speech. Therefore,there must be some particular ways to overcome this common problem in speeching.
Firstly, mind concept is very important when u are giving a speech. What is in your minds when u are going to stand up in front,talking to the audience? " Oh no,its my turn...I'm gonna mess up...I dunno what to say...i'm not gonna make it..." Is it like that? Well for beginners,maybe it would be like that but this type of thought should not be in our minds.
Positive thinking is one of the way to enhance a person to speak better. Our mind should be clear without negative thoughts and also, our success should be imagined in our minds.
Besides that, practicing is also an important part to make a proper and great speech.Practice alone? Group? It all depends on ones on how to practice speaking. Although, practicing in front of the mirror should be the best way to upgrade your confidence.

hi mam..my first experience was when im at school life..i was a prefect so i need to give speech that day...i was so nervous and thank god i got paper in my hand so my nervousness not seen clealy but my voice...slightly have shown to audience that im nervous...so from that day i was practice my self..to speak bravely..so when my lecturer gave me any topic to speak in front of the class..its so easy for me..to give speech but my problem is my grammar and vocabulary..but anyway its not a big problem..as a public speaker we need to be brave..

Public speaking! Before this when I was told to speak in public the feeling of nervous was running in my vein all over my body and I believe everyone felt that before. Stand in front of so many people make me blank and have no idea what should I say or even to think that why I am standing here. I guess you can feel how scared and nervous I am to speak in public. But now I can speak in public not as good as a public speaker but still I speak more fluently and more professional in public then before. All this was the hard work of Pn.Zue that train us to believe in ourself that we can do it. And this also come with motivation and all thetalk I had attend.

Nervous speakers. Of course everyone use to be a nervous at first. Lack of confidence, nervous & anxiety.
There is no such thing as a perfect speech!! But not to worry because research has shown that many speakers anxiety drop significantly after giving their speech for 30 seconds. Even a great celebrity was once a nervous speaker..

Be Rational. Figure out the basis for nervousness and dispel it, it's great to actually realize on what are you really afraid of & why.
Remember fear of public speaking is common. Just because you are a bit nervous does not mean you will not succeed. I mean come on, just that you've lost the battle doesn't mean you've lost the war.

So snap out of it. If you want to be a great speaker, you need to build up your confidence.

In conclusion, try learn from mistakes and learn from the best.
Practicing your speech is an important key to success.

Nervousness? its like a 24 wheeled lorry blocking the traffic. that's the situation of most speaker and even me myself. being a speker,especially infront of an unfamiliar crowd is simply very challenging as if you were caught red handed in public.speaking infront of a crowd basically is tormenting for most of us.to be a perfectionist,definately you need to talk.and to talk you need your confidence++,patience, and the bravery in you to face the people. at this point,people tend to give up rather than putting in some effort. basically,to be a speaker,one should practise frequently and with confidence. as the saying goes,practise makes better,its very applicable in the matter of shaping a good speaker. a non stop practise will definately improve the speaker indeed and practise is actually the platform to gain the confidence in a speaker. an optimum confidence built during practise ensures a good delivery.apart from that, a speaker should be brainy to speak in public. reading is vital in sharpening our brain. with more knowledge,a speaker indirectly will have his confidence boost. but eventually,reading habit in locals are very poor and this can be a reason for the lack of confidence in malaysians.thus,anxiety is not barrier for a successful speaker. as mentioned above,there are ways to overcome the nervousness in a professional speaker. nothing is impossible and control the anxiety in u.

That it a common thing everyone have to face in public speaking.
When i talk in front of the audience, the nervousness come and sometime i can not share the opinion with the audience.
but, to be a good speaker and potential we must fight with the nervousness.There are two way to overcome the nervousness.First,convice youself like say to yourself "YOU can do it"."YOU can beat the feeling" and share the opinion with them without shy and nervous anymore.Do not hurt them because they are willing to hear than you.Other than that you can make perfect practice.If you always make practice that's not the problem anymore when you
speak in front them.Beside that,think positive with your audience.don't think what they are saying about you just move on with your speech and share the ideas.So,the conclusion is if you think you can do it just do the best to become the potential speaker.

yes,i am too nervous when i have to talk in front of the audience...as you know, in class i am very nervous when public speaking until i forgot all the points that i have made before that.....eventhough people in the class just 20 people i'm still nervous...i don't know why......shy,lack of confidence,scared of doing mistakes, thinking what people say abiut me, thats all crawling in my head when i have to talk in front of people...
but, when pn.zue has called me several times to talk in front, i try to avoid that things crawling in my head again and again...i push all the negative thinking into the lake....haahaha...as we all know,practice make perfect....and in my impromtu speech, i think i have doing my good job when my nervousness is decrease better than before in my public speaking test.....

so, after this i want to think positive if i have to talk in front and i want to be more confidence as long as my friend do that....i also don't want to think about what people will said about me or what.....
i hope you can help me to be more confidence on my speech then i will be ready for my persuasive speech....=)

It is admittedly difficult to stand in front of an audience, and even the most accomplished speakers will admit to nervousness before a speech. In study after study, researchers have found that the fear of public speaking outranks the fear of dying for most. There is no effective way to erase completely this anxiety, but mild anxiety is probably indispensable to a good speech. Nervousness will stimulate adequate preparation and provide the surge of energy necessary for a powerful delivery. From as far as I can remember I always had a problem with public speaking. I recall when I was in school everybody would participate in yearly functions and allocations while I used to sit in a corner of the class hoping that the teacher doesn’t see me and call me to talk on the stage. I always tried to escape this but I simply couldn’t. This problem came with me to university; I couldn’t take part in dramas or answer questions properly in the class. When I saw every one of the faces that were looking at me when I was going to speak an anxiety attack used to hit me. I could not see them eye to eye. im really will be very nervous when doing presentation in my class but my favorite lecturer pn.zue has advice me not to show my nervousness in front of everyone to make ourself down and cannot concentrate in our points....What every speaker needs to avoid is a level of nervousness that leads to behavior that diverts the audience's attention. Audiences will rarely find a quavering voice persuasive. Nor do they find hand-wringing or fidgeting to be signs of a commited speaker. A speaker should remember that the audience has access only to these outward signs of nervousness. Even a highly nervous speaker can be quite effective as long as he or she suppresses these external manifestations of nervousness....
There are three common ways that we should know the negative effects of nervous: Depersonalization, Behavior Modification, and Practice... if we follow this 3 common ways, maybe our nervousness will disappear....

Yes i was very very nervous when the first time i did my public speaking... I studied hard and memorize everything but the moment i walk forward and stand in front of my class, my nervousness started... I lost my confidence and my mind went blank just like that... I forget each an every point which i memorized... I feel so scared until i couldn't speak out a word also...
The only thing i did was, i took a deep breath and started to speak out whatever i remembered... I told myself 'DON'T GIVE UP' and i keep talking... Besides that,
I believe the number one reason why i get nervous while delivering a speech is because, i focus too much on myself. I become worried of how i’ll look in front of people, and concerned with what others will think of me. I try my best not to look stupid, while in the process this thought is making me more nervous, thus making me look ‘stupid’. While i think about appearing incompetent, i fear it more, until all my thoughts are connected to the fear. Meanwhile, i feel nervous when i imagine myself as a public failure. My mind become full with this unpleasant, mind-created, fearful image of myself. Instead, fill my mind with visions of success, confidence and joy. In brief, be yourself,be honest, be pure, be open, show your vulnerabilities and share your thoughts with the audience even if it sounds awkward. We can learn from the mistakes and at the time we will be more confidence.

Nervousness is the main enemy, when to speak in front. Everyone is feeling nervous. That distinguishes them is whether to overcome or vice versa. Why should we be afraid to speak in front? Not difficult to speak. Go in front and talk!

I myself have been experiencing the same thing that is nervous. We cannot run away from nervousness because it is human nature. However, we can overcome it. Here there are some tips to share. Firstly, breathe deeply. This method will calm us. Secondly, focus! Do not think your weaknesses. Next, talk with positive thoughts and emotions. Finally, the eye contact.

If you are nervous. I am nervous too. Everyone is nervous. There is no problem that cannot be completed. Brave and overcome the feeling of nervousness.

Nervousness is something basic sentiment that was always happened in each people when they front on something that out of mind. There are a few ways to overcome this situation. When I followed my experience, sentiment of nervousness will happened with my first speech which is impromptu speech. It’s very difficult for me to overcome my nervous. But, after one minute I came out at the front of audience, the nervous will decrease automatically. This is because, I will always think that I give speech at people had know nothing. Then I will talk more seriously with excluding the nervous feeling. After that, to throw away the nervousness sentiment, you must always be ready and always do a lot of practice to stolid your speech. For example, you can talk in front of your friends and make sure your friends give some comment about your speech. When you do like that, it will improve your speech in the next time. As a good speaker, make sure you have a good confidence and you know what you want to talk about. You cannot simply just give a talk but you don’t know what you are talking about. A good speech will happened when you have done your good effort. Thank you.

The most common phobia people have is the “Fear of public speaking”. Some people dread public speaking even more than death. Most of us live with this fear throughout our lives. Being an underrated skill we fail to get proper guidance to overcome our stage fright. Public speaking is necessary for each one of us irrespective of our age or profession.
As our self confidence increases, public speaking will become easier. We will be more relaxed, and our nervous tension and self doubt will decrease. The wonderful thing about learning to talk before a group is that the more self confident we become, the better we will be at public speaking, and in turn speaking in public will boost our self confidence.
Once we feel comfortable, we can look into finding a group that practices public speaking, or maybe even join a debate club. Volunteer at our local library to give presentations on a subject we are expert in, or help campaign for a community cause.
Last but not least, I wish to conclude that if our self confidence needs work, do consider learning to speak in public. Public speaking and self confidence are great friends. We must support this relationship, because there is no better feeling than delivering the speech of our life!

I think everyone been through this stage of life. No one can just go up on stage for the first time and doesn't feel nervous. I still remember my first time speak in front of people. It was when I was form 2 I was force by my Bahasa Malaysia teacher to participate in public speaking and she gave only half and hour for me to prepare a whole speech. Said that I was nervous was under statement. I was mortified.But I did it although I was scared. After that I sworn to myself I'll never do public speaking ever again. But then I enter Uniten. It was in your class that you ask Dyana to choose a number and she randomly said number 7 and it was me.I scold her that time for saying that number since I was so nervous to speak in front of people that I just met.It was my first speech after the first ever speech I ever made. I was nervous but I tried to control it a bit.Since I've been in your class I had a few opportunities to talk in front of the class. Although I still not that confident but my nervous decrease a bit since the first day of class. To sum up,I think we should be confident in what we going to say and say it like we know more than the others although its the otherwise. And don't think it to much.Just believe that you can do it.

Nervous in public speaking is a common matter. Everyone nervous to speak in front of audience and even in front of a small group. People think because they are nervous they aren’t good speakers. That’s not true, as a speaker we have to try to control our anxiety and learn to speak upon bravely rather than think negatively. Most of the time nervousness does not show at all. If a person are not familiar with his/her own preparation or are uncomfortable with it, nervousness will increase rapidly. A person should practice his/her speech or presentation and revise it until can present it with ease. Most of the audiences want speakers to be interesting and entertaining. Audience will never judge, they just care about getting the information. As a speaker we should deliver our speech confidently and should brave to handle our anxiety. I feel nervous when I have to deliver a speech in front of 75 students, oh my goodness I really can’t imagine the day. I had prepare it well but when I stand in front and hold the mic to deliver my intro of the speech, my nervousness increase and I cannot even look up and get a eye contact but after a while my anxiety get away from me and I can easily deliver my speech until end of the forum. A part from that, we not should care what others will think about us. A speaker should do their own job and try their level best to performance better in front of everyone. The first thing a speaker should do before deliver a speech is take a breath, relax ,be confident, think positive, this may cause a speaker to control their nervousness.

First time i stand in front of the croud when i was an emcee for school's morning assembly. I was given a text, and i had to ret it.

At that time, my sweat wet my face and palm. The heartbeat became faster and louder as loud as i can hear it myself (from inner). Suddenly, im became a parkinson. My knee, my hand, my lips also shaky.

What am i gonna do next..??

All my friends noticed that. Im shy most.

THEN,i make a drastic decision, i put the microphone on the stand and turn it off, then i turn around, looked at every single eyes of my teachers while breathe in deeper and deeper, until the last person i saw then i hold my breathe. Im turn around back facing the pupils, and i breathe out slow and smoothly around 15 seconds. grab the mic back, stronger than before with right hands, while coiled my left hand with the wires tighted. I pray to Allah with my heart to make sure everything going smoothly. before i started to talk, i looked as far as i can to avoided any eye contact that will provoked my down. then, i started to talk again.

How is it??

-deep breathe for a long time
-release the breathe for a long time also
-hold something tightly that can cover your shakeness

Firstly, as human beings, we tend to be more afraid of what we don't know. For presenters, the audience is the great unknown. You will wonder: "What do they expect of me? Do they know much more about the subject than I do, etc.?" You will have the tendency to magnify the knowledge of the audience at the expense of your own knowledge. So, we must Convert unknown to known. The more information you gather on the audience and the more intensive your practice session the more the unknown will be converted to known.Guard against procrastination, however, because we tend to accomplish what is in our comfort zone, and put off more difficult tasks, such as systematic audience intelligence collection and rigorous practice. Bite the bullet, and you will have those fears of the unknown dramatically reduced. Secondly, fear of unanticipated questions. Many people are not worried about making a presentation, because they are "on their turf." These same people, however, are terrified at the prospect of answering questions, believing they will be embarrassed by not being able to answer questions. To overcome it, seek to anticipate the questions. If you have acquired accurate "intelligence" on the audience's needs, concerns and problems, then you should be able to preempt certain questions in your presentation, anticipate others, and develop succinct answers to others. No one expects you to be able to answer every question, but they do expect you to be honest. Don't give a false answer to avoid the embarrassment of saying: "I don't know." That honest phrase, followed by the words "but I'll get that information for you," must be in every presenter's vocabulary. When you make the commitment to get the information, remember that you have a moral obligation to do just that for the questioner and perhaps the entire audience.

speaking is about honest.be self confidence and no need to refer to any slide or text.it is all about us to give or sharing something to audience.i'm extremely agreed with that.
sometimes we need to let our fear sleep deep in our body and soul.just bring and pull over the brave and do it like there is nothing to be afraid of.

as we make a lot of practice..sure we will become a brave speaker.i use to be kind of nervous person..
but each time i remember mdm.zue's advice..i get the spirit.

Talk about this topic, I am very sure that everyone in the world will experience it once or more than that. Nervousness is the common thing to speaker even to University student. No doubt even world ruler will feel it either little or more.

I still remember my first presentation in this semester. That was in CMPF class, that time my lecturer had asked me to present my group assignment. Huh!!! that was my first thing come out from my mouth. The sigh was the sign I was in nervousness. You know, I always keeping said errr!!!. I keeping mentioned it for many times until my class members were laughing at me. Once they were laughing at me, that thing make me became more worse. What a shame to me... huhuhu!!!

Nowadays, the thing are the same either students or workers.Nervousness make people in incoherent, even world ruler with face the same thing but little or much that are the measurement.

For me, when I facing nervousness in my presentation or my speech and talk I will do something. The ways are, I will move a step forward to gain the audience attention. Then, I will mention in my brain that I can do it.That are the things for me to overcome it.

HUH!!! No more sigh in the speeches. Believe with yourself and you can make it.S0, do it and grab be when you have the chance to present in front.

I'm a nervous-wreck. not just in public speaking, but in everything. But especially when it comes to dealing with the public like expressing thoughts, giving comments and criticizing, I usually try to be full of myself for a while to kill the anxiety. Well it's hard, sometimes it's almost impossible to be obsessed with yourself especially when you're paranoid, but that's the only skill i have and 20% of it works at least few minutes before I end a speech or a conversation. So I think I'm gunna stay with that and hopefully my nervousness will just miraculously disappear one day.

I love speaking and I believe speaking is one of my best attributes. However, my first public speaking experience was a total bummer! My nervousness took over instead and it contributed to an appalling performance and I was discontented with myself as I love speaking. I knew I needed to surmount the nervousness I had in myself and so, I started being more confident in the things I do, especially when I’m talking. The added confidence in me made me to become a more competent public speaker. Furthermore, a gist of motivation is always needed in order for me lessen my nervousness. The motivation usually comes from within me or I get it from my friends. I believe motivation is an essential factor when it comes to public speaking as it gives me more courage to speak as confidently as possible. Besides that, practice comes in handy as to reduce nervousness. Practicing public speaking will facilitate me to not adjourn my speaking attributes. Plus, it truly does help me in my public speaking a whole lot, with my nervousness deteriorating and my speaking becoming more eloquent. As a conclusion, nervousness during public speaking can be halted by having confidence, a little bit of motivation from within or from friends, and with a little bit of practice.The nervousness will indisputably come to an end.

Nervous...
According to dictionary nervous defined as having or showing feelings of being worried and afraid about what might happen.
I'm sure everyone will have that feeling call nervous, event though prime minister, professor, professional public speaker, artist and others.
There are two ways of reduction our nervous.
Firstly, we should have more practice.
The more practice we do the well prepared confident level we have.
example we can practice with a recorder or in front of a video camera from there we can know what is our weakness when we presenting.
Secondly is self confidence.
We must believe that our self can do it no matter how worse we are, because at least we have try our best.So that we can push our self become better and become more confident.Is good we practice now better than we practice when we going to an interview or after getting a job.
Believe yourself! Just try an error!^^

Nervousness is something that im very familiar with.Sometimes when im assigned to give a talk about a particular topic which im nt really sure about,i'll tend to get nervous.I personally realise that when we are confident on something that we do,we wont actually feel the nervousness.I believe that lack of confidence and also lack of self esteem is the main reason why i usually get nervous.So from today onwards i'll try my best to raise up my confidence and slf esteem level so that i can do well in my upcoming talks in the public.

salam madam Zue, in my opinion i think feeling nervous is the greatest enemy to all speakers in the world. As a student, i also feel scared to speak in front of the public. I feel like want to poop out on the stage and my legs become wiggly. My mind will blank.

There are many ways on how to reduce nervousness such as you can take a deep breath.You can repeat doing it until you feel relief. The others way is transforming the nervousness in negative form into what one expert call positive nervousness like enthusiastic and lively feeling with a slight edge to it.

This also happens to me during the time I was presenting my first impromptu speech in your class , mam . The thing that I learned was we must learn to control our nervousness in front of the public . We must think that all the people in front of us are just a doll .That is what u told me Miss during the first time I did my speech . I still remember the first time my teacher pull my hand to the stage and ask me to speak. I was so nervous and sweating like a heavy rain. But I still do the talk since I'm already there. I still remember the faces of the audience that were trying their best not to laugh at me. And right after done with my speech, I ran to the wash room and vomited. What a history.....

And that was before. That was the first time I came out(unwillingly) and stand in front of the crowd to speak. The first time is always a disaster. Because we are completely immature and lack of experience. And what makes it worst is when we are out of idea!

So let me share what did I do to overcome all these problem. First, I started to plan every time I were told to give a speech. Organizing your idea is very good especially for the beginners. When we plan, we will have it all in our brain. All we have to do is just write it on a piece of paper and start elaborating. Usually what will you say in front will be so different like what you wrote. It is because you are use to it until the points just came out spontaneously yet brilliantly.

Dear speakers, always remember that practice makes perfect. This is undoubtedly proven. When we practice our topic, our speech, our task or whatever, we will be prepared like more than enough. So, start practicing now.

And last but not least, start reading from now on. No doubt that readings will help you a lot in your speech. To come out with a marvelous, brilliant, amazing, fantastic points is when we start to read. As what my sister,Fatimah always said that reading is a window to wisdom. My sisters and even my mama advised me to read before, but I was too stubborn to realize the benefits. And after that disaster(you know what I mean..), I started to read as much as I can. And now, I always manage to develop ideas in my head.

By that 3 ways, I succeeded to perform my speech way better than before. And trust me, when you already use to it, you don't even need to write much on your small size refer paper. You just need the keyword and there you go, sharp, vivid, honest and smart ideas. Nervous is normal. But it has two types. The good, or the bad one. The bad is when you are unable to speak at all. You just went blank. And the good is when you take it as a challenge and strive to give out your best. It is yourself that are capable in handling your nervousness.

1. Let Your Nerves Work for You

I am probably right when I say those few moments of being on a bicycle without training wheels were some of the most focused moments in your life. All your senses were ready to learn. Your nerves, in that case, were working for you.

Nerves are not the enemy. I have been presenting public speaking courses for over two decades and I have never found a good speaker who was not nervous about their work. Notice that I wrote "a good speaker." There are plenty of cocky and arrogant public speakers who are "never nervous" but they present without energy or enthusiasm.

What good are nerves and nervousness for the public speaker? Your nerves keep your energy level high and your focus sharp. Speaking with high energy while focused on your presentation benefits your audience. They are getting a speaker who is truly present to the subject they are presenting instead of someone who is spewing out just another average speech. Before going onstage, accept your nerves as part of being human, take several slow deep breaths, smile big and step onto the stage with energy and enthusiasm.

2. Remember: Your Audience Wants You to Succeed.

When you were riding without the training wheels, were your family or friends standing on the sidewalk hoping you would fall off and hurt yourself? Of course they were not hoping that you would fail.

In public speaking, your audience wants to you to be at your best. They do not want you to be boring as that means they will be bored. Your audience wants to see you having fun or deeply in touch with your subject. In the old days, people were told to imagine the audience in their underwear. That was just horrible advice. Your audience is on your side and you are in partnership with them. Remember, you are the expert and you are giving them a valuable presentation. They want to walk out of the event saying, "Great! I can really use what that speaker was talking about."

3. Good Coaching and Training is Invaluable.

When you were a small child, you did not just hop on to your bicycle and hurry down the street. No, you started with training wheels. Then, someone took off those training wheels and ran behind you, holding on to the seat, while you wobbled down the road. Several falls later, more running and wobbling, and then, whoosh you took off down the road.

Coaching and training for public speaking are invaluable ways to get to the whoosh moments of public speaking. We who coach and train public speaking skills are always getting letters of thanks from our clients who successfully used simple techniques taught in public speaking workshops or private coaching. It feels like this blog post has just shot a bullet into my head.

From my point of view, no one is never "not nervous".
Many says that nervousness is cause by inexperience. No doubt, but what I think is more to the area where an individual creates a mindset in his mind that everyone is laughing at him while he is presenting his speech.

Nervousness can be countered easily. But knowing the correct way is important.Many love to hide their nervousness by hiding the signs of nervousness. Signs of nervousness are like shattering voice, hands shacking, excessive body movement, dead stare, or even pausing for a long time in speeches.
But the master key to overcome this is by concentrating on the points you want to present.
By concentrating on the things you want to deliver, you will eventually not think about people around you. Nevertheless, eye contact is still important.
In other words, having self confidence.

As for me, I do get nervous in times when I'm not ready to go out there to share my thoughts.
It is still a challenge to me to overcome this and same goes to everyone. As the saying goes, "no one is perfect".

Nervousness? Indeed I am a person that get nervous easily. Not only nervousness, panic, lack of confidence, lack of fluency in English are all my fatal problem. I still remember the last I face nervousness was during my impromptu speech. I remember I got everything ready inside my mind, all points I wanted to say already strategies properly. But the moment I stood in front of the class, everything just go "woush" and disappear from my mine, what's left is only nervousness. I still remember that time, I was so nervous that I just simply say whatever things I cant think of which is related to the topic I got. It is very annoying whenever I have to deal with nervousness. But still, I manage to call myself to calm down a little bit, and try to rethink back what I had in my mind during the preparation. Obviously I can't remember everything back, but I still manage to grab back some of my point just to continue the speech ( which result in I had stunned there for a few seconds).
Well if there is a secret recipe for me to conquer my nervousness, friends will be the one. Whenever I'm feel nervous while giving speech, I'll try to look at my friends. It's because I know them well, and I will feel like I'm just having conversation with them instead of giving a speech in front of the whole class. Friends do help a lot in reducing my nervousness.
As conclusion, nervousness is a troublesome yet a necessity for us to have it while giving our speech. It's just depends on how you handle it.

Me myself have this very nervousness feeling when speaking, either for presentation, speaking in class, open discussion and even sometimes to stranger. I'm totally exposed to these tips to prevent nervousness, and get some readings on this nervous feeling, but it doesn't really useful on me. More over, I'd been practicing for quite a numerous speaking, i just couldn't totally get this nervousness away, but I could see some improvement on myself. Slightly enough to be noticed. The importance of getting rid of this nervousness in speaking totally evident. It boost one's confidence and grooms others on us. Even more, its compile our experience to be spoke out and then applied in working base speaking, which I found it's totally useful. There and then, I hope that everyone could get rid of this nervousness, even me, myself to improve in my language. Just how I wished I could hide this nervousness when it strikes on me.

During my first public speaking,if i say i was not nervous,definitely it's a lie.Nevertheless,i understand that shivering and statle look will not bring me any mercy.So,i forced myself to give my best shot!Miracle in public speaking seems to be impossible without any experience.It was bad for the first time but it got better as i dare myself everytime i being call up.Nervousness still the best companion as it never leaves be.It can be a great opponent of your mind,however,if u manage it well,it can turn out to be your best motivation.Why worry about nervouseness as it always tag along?Can't get rid of it,then learn to be friend with it.

Well, i believe that nervousness usually starts when u start to think of what others think of you. And having said that, i believe if someone has high-self confidence, heck does that word even exist in his vocabulary?

No, nervousness is not a bad thing, nor should it be countered. I believe that nervousness is a natural sign that you're ill-prepared or afraid, or simply short of self-confidence. Correct me if i'm wrong but if an athlete does not feel nervous before a big competition would he be pushing himself harder to win? If a singer is not nervous before going on stage would the singer prepare the songs and practice days and weeks before? Let's relate to something more...personal. If we're not nervous before speaking, would we prepare ourselves? No. We wouldn't.

So let's use nervousness to our advantage and not try to completely eliminate it.

Nervousness? This word has never disappeared from my mind. The last time I was nervous in public was definitely the impromptu speech two weeks ago. Well, I still remembered when I walked out and stand in front my lecturer and classmates, my mind had only one sentence-the attention getter. Luckily it was not totally blank, but yet I need to referred back my small sheet and then continue. Honestly, my palms were full of sweat and my legs were shivering. I was not dare to look at others,so I only focus on one person, and that lucky guy was Deshvin. And then I imagine I was in cafeteria and just sharing my experience with him. I think he noticed this and he kept his eyes on me, nod his head to show me he understood what I'm talking about. Thanks my friend. You guided me to stepped out my first step of nervousness. After that, I realise there are no one laughing at me because of my broken English and I started to look at others people and see their reaction. What I felt is that they were trying to understand what I'm talking. That's really touching. After this, I realised I was not that nervous as before and I started to enjoy my speech. In a conclusion, I feel that if we want to overcome our nervousness, one of the method is communicate with our audiences, through our speech or through the sincerity from our eyes.

This is a really nice and fun topic to share about. I have been involving in public speaking since Standard one thanks for my class teacher. I was chosen to represent my class for Story Telling Competition, I was so scared and dare not take the challenge, my teacher convinced me and said, what you need to do is just to stand on the stage and share a story. And guess what, I won the first place =D Have no idea how happy I am that time, since then I love public speaking and have been representing KL for Chinese and Malay public speaking competition since Standard 4 till secondary school . The differences between the public speaking I took last time was, last time I only need to tell out what I memorize, but in University I need to tell out my opinion which is quite a challenging things to do. Well, how do I overcome my nervous and all. First, I would tell myself that all this human that listening to me are just nothing, I will treat that they are not there and just make it like I am practicing and not the real thing. It works A LOT!! Another tips is to take a deep breath before talking so that we won’t show our nervousness by speaking faster and faster. Last but not least, practice in front of the mirror, you can see how you are presenting and if you dare to look at yourself while practicing, you will be fine on stage. The person that you need to face first was always yourself, If you don’t even dare to look at yourself, no need to think of specking in front of the public, you will be more nervous.

Being nervous in public speaking is common for everyone and all of us experianced it before. In my opinion, i think we should control it because it will definately mess up out speech. When we get nervous, we will easily forget our points thus, it causes us to be panic. Nervousness in public speaking is not only refer to unexperiance speaker, even experiance speaker will encounter nervousness when they deliver their thoughts in front of many people. When I was in secondary school, I have been selected to be a particular club president and that was the time I learn how to speak infront of many people. Being a leader, public skill is essential because people determine our leadership skill through public speaking. A good leader able to impressed and influence other people thoughts. To me, I dont take public speaking as some which are very scary but i take it as a challenge for me. I transform the nervousness into excitement. Other than that, having practices is also very important in gaining self confidence.

Nervousness is unavoidable. IT is a signal that you're not ready or not fully prepared. The reasons could vary from lack of experience, not enough research done, or language difficulty.

My 1st encounter with nervousness was during our 1st impromptu practice. It was my 1st time speaking up front of a class. The feeling is totally different from what i experienced from camps. In camps, you've your team members to give you points, you're actually relaxed, and there's no time limit to meet. Whereas, in that impromptu speech, time requirement is 3 mins min, and you've to struggle with generating enough points to cover for 3 miserable minutes! ><

When i got nervous in public, i would know. Basically, I would just stop or pause for a moment. Take a quick deep breath to get my feet straight again and my mindset right. Besides that, the best way to calm myself is to tell positive things like "you can do this","keep your cool" and not the negative. The negative will DESTROY your performance.

another interesting topic as always.actually i've been through many public speaking experience,and believe me,not all went like i expected.i want to share a story about the first time i went on stage to deliver a story with the audience. It was a story telling competition at school and i was in standard 4.i was elected by my english teacher to compete and i was given a story about..i coulnd't really remember but it was clearly about a rabbit.at first,i told my teacher i had never done story telling and i had only one or two experience standing on stage.how was i going to tell a story?

my teacher said,"farid, you have to be the character."If i was going to tell a story about a postman,be tha postman.if a rabbit,be that rabbit.feel how it feels and do what it does.so i took my teacher's advice and practice a lot.

during the competition,i was so nervous at that time.at first, i stuttered a bit but as the story goes on,i remembered her words.'Be the rabbit.'I then hopped around the stage like the rabbit in my story,make rabbit ears using my hands. It was so funny that everyone laughed and cheered.at that moment,i did not sense a little bit of nervousness in me at all.at the end of the day,all those hopping and running on the stage paid off.yes,i won first place in the competition.i would like to take this opportunity to thank miss Kiron, my former english teacher and to pn. Zue for being such a wonderful idol to me.i want to speak as good as you two!

Nervous speaker? Yes I am..I am terrified to give a presentation.Actually i’m quiet great in one-on-one situation,but a long presentation or speech made me paralyzes. It's not the content of my presentation, it's the process of getting up in front of a group of people and speaking.

Here are some suggestions that I have for people who are nervous just like me when doing presentations: Prepare, prepare, prepare! Don't wing it! Prepare an outline of what you want to say and practice it.Its just like Pn Zue said before.Then,be specific and talk about the things you know best. Don't try to teach people everything you do. Focus on no more than two or three areas of what you want them to learn about. Most importantly, cover the topics you feel you understand the best. This will reduce some of your stress. Remember, you're the expert. Think about ways that help show that and are not threatening for you.This way i will use it for my informative speech this week.And last but not least, be creative. Think of some way to communicate the information in a way you feel comfortable.

Mostly all of us are nervous before and while we are giving our speech.But most of them have the confidence in them which makes them to be a good speaker.Truely speaking,i never had the confidence in myself.Lately I just finished my impromptu speech.I was pretty lucky to get an easy topic but i actually ruined the whole speech because i was nervous.Im sure i could have done better.On that day,i realised that i should not be nervous while im giving a speech.Although i had a lots of ideas to talk about,but just because im nervous,nothing came up in my mind during my speech.Since next week is going to be my informative speech,i promised to myself to do well in it.Futhermore,i would love to prove it to Pn.Zue that i had actually gained a lot by attending all her classes.Will definitely try my level best for my next speech.I do have trust in myself now.Im sure that i can be a good speaker as well in future.All i need to do is to have confidence in myself.

When i speak in front of a crowd, nervousness is inevitable. That is why i have tried to avoid speaking in public. However, the english course at Uniten is all about public speaking, so i was forced to speak in front of the class. Amazingly, the more i speak in public, the less nervous i feel. When i first started public speaking, i was so nervous that my mind just went blank. Furthermore, my hands would start shaking everytime i stepped in front of a crowd. Therefore, it seems that the only remedy for nervousness during public speaking.

Do you dread giving a speech. Does the nervousness feel more like birds flying in your stomach than the proverbial butterflies? If you've gotten terrible grades or embarrassment for your bad speeches, the problem probably lies in the nervousness rather than the speech.

Getting nervous before giving a speech is normal. Even great personalities get nervous before giving a speech. But that doesn’t mean there is no remedy for it.

You can give up the belief that you have to be perfect. Most people are afraid of public speaking because they fear the embarrassment of making mistakes in front of others. You can also visualize the outcome you want. Prepare positively and love your listeners. Get some rest and avoid hassles. Plan ahead and get a good night's sleep before your presentation. Addition, look your best. Take some time with your appearance. Polish your shoes and comb your hair. Wear attractive, flattering, professional-looking clothing.

These are the tips that I always use when I'm nervous. Other than that I always take deep breathe, smile, practice, keep good eye contact and always keep an open mind before presentations. After doing the first couple speech and I got used to being in front of a few people it got easier and easier.

"To be expert public speaker??" That's impossible....Because that is a challenge to me and i'm a broken speaker in public....always felt trembled and shyness when share the opinion to everybody....

Now, he is a brilliant speaker that can give speech on big stage.
What make him so success? Is 'nervousness' that everyone worry all the time.
Because of this nervousness,everyone keep on practice again and again so that there is no mistake when giving speech.
Because of this nervousness,everyone doing research about the topic hardly so that they can satisfy the audience.
Nervousness normally is caused by lack of experience and confident,shyness,lack of knowledge and etc. But how do we overcome this problem? What we can do is just practice often and have faith in yourself that what you present can satisfy your audience.
Me myself have this problem of course.My mind always blank when I'm giving speech in front of crowd and so as shivering.What going to happen when all this problems gather on me? I'll definitely get low marks for the presentation.Sigh.I'm now trying my best to hide this nervousness and also improve in my knowledge and language.Hope that it will have a good result on me.

I believe that everyone have nervousness problem.even salesman got this problem.Firstly we must thank to god for give us to feel nervous.why? it shows that we are normal human not a psychiatric patients.we still have our perfect working nervous system.

Actually,for the new speaker,there must be have feeling such as lack of confidence,fear to give own thoughts whether its true or false and the most feel is nervousness..Nervousness plays a big role of public speaking..Well,its like me..During impromptu speech,when the time for me to presents,many feeling thats come to my heart..And the biggest is nervousness..But,the day before impromptu speech,I had practiced with my friends..So,I thought there will be smooth on impromptu day,unfortunately I can't controls my nervousness..The way that my friends taught me how to overcome nervousness didn't work for me..My friends taught me to be cool and steady like playing counter-strike game and always tried to say anything as long as in english..I feel dissapointed for my first task in this subject,but I will try to improve my presents from day to day..As final remarks,I hope all of you can handle nervousness easily and always do a lot of practices..Thank you

Every living being in this
universe experiences the feeling of being nervous.Be it a dictator or even a president.The term “NERVOUS” is actually experienced by everyone and it can be confined due to the fact that no matter how well you try to hide the feeling of being nervous,it will still come back even in the smallest microscopic manner.For instance,the tremble of your arm when you’re delivering a speech or even the stammer in your speech when you’re not sure what to say.These my friends clearly shows us that being nervous is a common thing among everyone.

We should always try to come up with ways to kill the feeling of being nervous.We should try different methods which that follows our preferences.Keep in mind that every particular individual has different method’s of handling nervousness.For instance,we should walk around a bit on the stage so that we would be confident with our surroundings.We could also use hand gestures to prevent our hands from trembling vigorously.On top of that,we could also chew on a gum or even drink a cup of water to cool us down and build our inner confidence before we begin our speech.

In conclusion,we all know that everyone experiences the concept of being nervous and we therefore should find ways to curb this issue to ensure that it does not affect us in our distant future.

Well for me, i think that nervous is actually a normal response for those people who had a target or hope in their heart, for me the more you hope for something the more you nervous. That why i always tell myself is okay if i nervous because it is not the bad things at all. I always take nervous as a encouragement for me because i view it in different way which NERVOUS actually reflect a sense of HOPE to me. In my opinions, for those who never nervous on stage means that he or she didnt expect for anythings such as performing the best to the audience. So they will never do their best.

Nervous speaker. Haha. I am indeed one of them. I am terrifyingly nervous whenever I face crowd especially with a microphone in front of me. Now, I am still as same. The only thing I am trying my best to do is that I must show my confident. I must pursue myself first in order to pursue others to believe in me, right? i like to talk so much .. but i do not like public speaking . my 1st public speaking competition is forcing by my primary school teacher . i was nervous but i tell myself no people is watching me & just want myself 2 clearly give out my speech . i did not win anything . but every time i go up the stage no matter be mc or giving speech , i will tell myself this is not the 1st time stand on stage ...

I think everyone will definitely feel nervous when speak in front a crowd, it goes same to me. The first time i speak in front of crowd is when i was in form3. I was a MC for the event and i have to talk until the whole event end. It is a nightmare for me as i can't really speak fluently in english but thanks god i was given a script^^. I will still feel nervous when talk in front of crowd although i have those experiences. I think i will try my best to overcome this problem as we need alot of speaking after we graduate.

Nervous?? I am a nervous person and I will never be able to get rid of my nervous. I really hate to have this feeling in front of crowd because people obviously can see my nervousness and I have no idea how to overcome this feeling. I’ve heard many motivational advice and spirit from people surrounding me, not forgotten Pn. Zue who always gives spirit and convinces us that all of us can perform well in speaking. I really love them and appreciate it but unfortunately it can’t long last. When I stand in front of crowd, automatically nervousness come along, and all those advice and spirit I got simply disappear. So, it seems useless for me. nervousness... what to be shamed of? it is a normal feeling that actually help us to boost our own confident next time. in fact, it would be a lie if someone not feeling nervous on something for the first time.

nervous speaker huh? it will all related to loosing your points, shivering in public and feeling shy after speaking. well, grow up. that feeling should only be felt now if it is not in the future. of course not in the past because when u in your childhood, u always do what u feels right and that suppose to happen with no shyness and nervous. think about it. u can do all that crazy stuff because your mind always thought of doing it with no consequences. u should do the same when u speaking in public. why? simple. if u afraid of facing the consequences, u actually afraid of facing the future. what is so scary about future that u want to avoid so much? apocalypse? well, it actually not concerning a bit about speaking in public unless u are talking about apocalypse as your topic. of course i used to feel nervous in fact i always nervous when i have to speak in public but till when do i need to have it?? when will i get the gut to stand in front and speak? that is my aspiration for not feeling nervous no more.

thus, if u have the opportunity to do something u actually afraid, just do and go with the flow. u will find that u are the bravest person alive because u encounter your own feeling of nervous that comes from fear of being accepted.

I still remember that it was a Monday morning when i had a presentation that was supposed to be presented in front of a lot of people and i was very nervous due to many reasons such as there were many people,i hate presentations at all, and that presentation was considered as the most important presentation in life.Nervousness word its self makes me nervous at the current moment. however, nervousness is considered as a passivity action and negative action at the same time.let us ask why???.positive action is that nervousness which makes you to prepare very well. negative action is that nervousness which affect your presentation. moreover, there are many ways to reduce the nervousness. the first one you have to thick positively about what the people think about your presentation. the second thing you have to know that there is no one on this earth dose well all the time except our prophet(MOHAMMED).the third thing you have to prepare very before your speak.next you should breath deeply while you doing your speak. in short. to eliminate this problem we must have a high self confidence.

Yes im a shy,quiet person who easily get nervous either in exam,quizzes or public speaking.Im not dare to took part in any competition in my primary school because im nervous and stage fright and i remembered the 1st time i took part in english drama competition was in 14 years old and randomly picked by my form teacher.Im super nervous the moment im in stage and to make myself stay calm and dont let others saw im shivering,i move my toe instead of shivering and look high up instead of looking at the audience and i found it quite useful for me even the latest activity that we done few weeks ago(impromptu speech)and im still using the same method.I really need to overcome my stage fright and nervous feeling and i would like to participate more activity involving english speaking to improve my english as well.

I must admit that to speak in public is one of the most toughest thing to be done.We can see it everywhere that when it come to a time that demand a speaker to answer questions or express some opinions,there are only few peoples that willing to volunteer themselves.This is due nervousness that i would like to categories as a'disease'.Why?Although it is not a disease that can kill people,it is a disease that would kill people's confident level and make them afraid to express themselves towards public.However,nervousness can be'cured'by following the right technique.

In my opinion,one of the technique to reduce the nervousness'disease' is by get to know your audience well and let the audience know you.It's not that you need to know all the details and background of your audience,it is enough if you just know their names and they knows yours.That's why it is very important for you to properly introduced yourself before start giving speech.By knowing your audience,you would feel more comfortable and relax during your speech.For simple example,when one of your friend ask you to explain about something,did you suddenly become nervous and lose your confident to speak?Of course not.I believe that you will be able to explain everything confidently to your friend.Why?this is because you know your audience well that is your own friend.So,by applying this technique,i think that nervousness can be minimized and we will be a better speaker.Well,that's what i'm thinking.

hi puan zue. i admit that i am so nervous when i have to give a speech in front of the class. it's like everytime i stand in front, my mind is totally empty. i just do not know what to say. the last time i was nervous in public is during impromptu speech. as you can see, i had a long pause during my speech. actually i took a deep breath to calm myself and then try to continue my speech. i know everyone will face the same thing. everyone has to deal with their own nervousness. what i can do is try my best to speak my mind and i hope it will get better.

wow, this is the most common thing that happen to most people when come to be a speaker...especially infront a lot of people..nervousness..i'm not sure whether i am a nervous type or its just i've lack of thing to say infront..or it is because of my nervousness i don't know what to say..when it comes to speech or a public speaker, i am first was so confidence when im in training with myself alone..i just don't know why then when the day comes, i lost everything that i've memorized..say, im not really that nervous..or it is a nervous..i dont know...my problem is just when i be infront of people, i can smile..but my head flies no where..anyway, just found a way to avoid atleast a bit of nervousness, look at people's face..take one small breath and smile for a couple second..that will calm you down..:)

I first started public speaking as early as primary school. I would still remember the butterflies in my tummy at that time. As I grow up, the nervousness started to lessen and I started to get comfortable when public speaking. But, experiencing public speaking is not enough, to give the best , I realized that I need to focus on the topic that I will be speaking about and jot down some keywords to make me remember what to say when speaking. If I start to forget my points then I would start feeling nervous. Nervousness will always tag along whenever one has to speak parallel to a specific situation and expectation. Therefore I will tend to know what do the person who put me in public speaking would like from me in detail. So that I could fulfill their goal. Last thing of all that I would always do, is imagine your audience are a bunch of sheep, that will not laugh at you. That's all, thank you Puan Zu.

I think most of us get nervous when we are asked to talk in front of the crowd. Nervousness, for sure, it is the main barrier for me to deliver my speech well in front of people. Besides that, I also faced the lack of confidence and fluency in speaking English.

Being honestly, impromtue speech was the first ever speech I ever had in my life. My mind was empty the moment I stand in front of the class. I kept telling myself not to think about the nervousness, and concentrate on what I supposed to do - deliver the speech to the audience. I kept remind myself to focus on my points and eleborations on my speech. Being not confident enough, I was afraid to have too much of eye contacts with the classmates. However, I was touched that everyone is listening to me and it inspired me to do a better speech.

I think there is no shortcuts to become a successful speaker, only with continuous and persistance of pratices will result in a good speaker.

Most of us cannot perform well during the public speaking.
There are some tips to make you feel better.

First of all, you should remember the points you want to talk. After that, you have to practice the speech that you would like to talk about. Before you start, drink some water to reduce the nervousness and calm yourself down. You should tell yourself you are the best, and that’s why you are standing in front to give a talk.

You also need to show your confidence. Just groom yourself a bit and make yourself look at least tidy and clean. Now, this is the time for you to speak.

Maybe your first time is not that good, but keeps it on and you will learn from every single try. No one knows how to walk since they are born, but they know how to walk by practicing it more and more. There is no shortcut for improving public speaking skill, but Practice makes perfect.

I couldnt figure out why am I so nervous although i am quite in communication with english. I guess it will be there till we go out for a presentation and keep on talking infront of the class.In my case,now im in 3rd sem which have english basically more to communication skills. Therefore there are a lot of activities made by Pn.Zue to make us get used to presentation which means less nervous by now. I wouldn't say no nervous but its getting lesser as more activities comes along.

Nervousness while giving a speech. 'omg, i cant, my legs is shivering', 'hey, i cannot speak well, call him/her', 'i have presented last few days, so i should not present on today', these excuses can always be heard from my mouth, just to escape from giving a speech in front of others.
But, there are lots of friends and even lecture try to motivate me. Honestly, a support from friends and lecturer is very important which give a very big impact for me. I think everyone needs the same support as me too. So, let's work on together, getting through this obstacle together, and be successful speaker together. We can do it.

speaking an unpopular idea is a challenge for rocky and professional speakers, but could be quite a bigger challenge for the rockies, needs time and preparation, both in collecting data and conveying the idea to crowd. if the idea were to be presented to a close friend or two, it would probably be a lot easier, simply because friends are close and know exactly what u are talking about, so in my opinion when about to present an idea to a large audience, try telling it to some of your friends (close) friends, share my thoughts and fears with them, that will help in releasing the tension. telling it to friends or family might boost someones confidence in speaking in public.
in my opinion speaking in public and the fear it carry is faced only by practicing and knowing what are you talking about. it is a scary thing but could be addicting once mastered. thank you madam for interesting topic

Hello Puan Zue,when talking about nervous speaker,it is so related with me.And yes,until now i cant control my nervousness to speak in front of my own classmates when doing my presentation.I had one bad experience when i was so nervous when giving some speeches and the way to avoid it is i try to avoid any eye contact between me and the audience.It did worked for me.The best way to avoid any nervousness is we have to be brave enough to speak up in front of people as we have to implement it when we are in job area.

When i presenting, i usually have a marker pen to hold on my right hand and laser pointer on my left hand, It seems so much things to hold, but for the first time i presenting without the nervous is because of the things that i hold, i got this idea by looking at various type of presenter, and they all have something to hold in their hand, I have some expreince with my friend, she is presenting infront of the class, she had nothing to hold, and while presenting, Her hands keep juggling around the things that she saw infront of her eyes.From there i know that we can keep our nervousness by holding something on our hand.

yes, it's true that almost everyone can get nervous when doing the public speaking because of many things especially speak to so many people in front of you.

but usually the only effective way to speak properly is to calm down and act like nothing is disturbing you because usually we have the stage fright is because we look the audience as our examiner not as our listener. that's is my opinion.

Nervousness is a natural feeling that everybody will feel in life. It comes in different ways and circumstances. Same goes to me. I do speak in public and the nervousness does come to me.

I try my best to encounter this feeling as it will cause problems later if I don't manage it. As I speak in public, I will look at my friends' faces as they can give support during my speech. Having a formal plain speech also will lead to the nervous attack. So, I will interpolate my speech with some jokes so that it won't look too formal nor too bored to be listened to. Always remember that the audience also want to have a cool and good speech.

What gives me the strength to conquer my nervousness? Actually when I come nervous, I always try to persuade and cool myself down. I set my mind that I should give my audience a chance to hear what I will say. They might not have the idea of what I am going to speak in front of them. As we know, different ideas can be thrown out by different people. I will cool down and try to deliver my speech as good as possible so that people can grab my ideas.

Speaking is not a subject. It is a skill; which means it is an ongoing learning process. We shall not stop and need to have a lot of practices to ensure that we can deliver the best.

speaking infront of people isnt easy to me ,
im the type which always Typo while writting msg and even when i start to open my mouth, all the words that come out always the words that can make people laugh huhuhu.
to be a public speaker isnt easy to me. but seriously i love sharing my experience n opinion. just i need to be more relax and not so nervous to speak up !
and i need more practice ! anyone volunteer to teach me ? :p

nervous is common feeling for the presenter.that is normal because it will come better an better after that but only a good presenter will feel that. for me it is difficult to do that Because i am nervous person especially When there is no preparation before the presentation. i'm also the one that always think that what other people think about me during the presentation and it make me look silly if i'm just talking nonsence in front of other people. so, that is why I'm really do not like improm to speach because it really make me feel uncomfortable and i can not speak in a good presenter even my idea in my mind. however, i will try it to overcome my nervous.

speaking of nervous speaker, actually i still cant overcome my nervousness in public speaking. i am actually a nervous speaker for your information. for some reason, even though i practiced and prepared a lot, i still cannot deliver my speech well. standing in front of a crowd with all the eyes watching directly into me will definitely make my tongue tied.

i think the best way to overcome this problem is to keep on practicing in front of a mirror. by doing this, i can practice on my face expression and surely i can brush up my skill too.

during the speech, i can always look at the crowd's hair if i don't have the confidence to have an eye contact. the most important thing is to relax and make it easy.

after all, i will make sure i can overcome this problem from time to time. i am hoping you can give me some guidance for me to improve myself. luv u =)

being a public speaker isn't easy for me since my high school. once i stood in front of audience, i started to forget everything in my mind and shaking. so i will keep take a deep breath and tell myself, the audience is my friends, the one who i manage to talk and laugh with. usually, after few minutes of talking, i'll be fine.

Nervousness. The things that cannot disappear whenever i have to speak in front of public. For me, actually in class, Azfar had become my inspiration. Whenever i see him talking infront, that gave me the strength and will to go on. I see the confidence in him when he talking infront. There is where i learn how to overcome my nervousness. I made Azfar as my benchmark. I asked myself, if Azfar can do it, why can't i.

There also i see that calmness also plays an important role in delivering a goos speech infront. When you are in calm state, your mind can become free to generate the idea for you to talk and thus making your speech become smooth and fluent.

There is one moment when in schooldays i have to give an explanatory speech to teacher and student about robotic, i become so nervous. Then what drives me to go on? My teachers and friends. That is another key ingredient how me myself over the nervousness.

Thinking about everyone has the nervousness and how they cope with it also makes me try to overcome my nervousness. For example, I wonder how the head of states have to control their nervousness when speaking to the world.

Nevertheless, nervous can sometimes be a friend and a hoe. It just a matter how i cope with it.

i always envy whoever can speak in front of crowded people, with confident and lots of brilliant ideas coming out from their speech. i always ask myself why i cant be like them? whenever i'm assigned to speak in front of the class, my heart beats faster and my hands are freezing. i always lack of idea and not brave enough to speak in public yet.
but i had done an observation to this speakers who are courageous enough to speak in front, that is they prepared well. i implement this technique to myself last time, when my lecturer asked me to be an invited speaker for the day. i did some research and try to memorize the main idea and the speech goes smoothly. i feel so good after that :) so now i know the secret ingredient to overcome the nervousness, that is to be well prepared before giving speech ;)

Do you remember your first days without the training drive on your car? Were you nervous and afraid? Did that fear make you high-focused? Was there someone helping , guiding you and cheering you on that time?

When it comes to public speaking, do you find yourself nervous and maybe even afraid? Like that first experience when you derived the car ,
in my opinion ,
we must take time to practice to speak infront of audience in public speaking if no practicing this situation you cant feel well and feel nerves and lost your attention about your topic , same when you want drive your car , can you drive without taking course in how to drive the car i thing no because you must learn step be step about the car , how start the engine,and where is the Brake,where is the throttle,Turn signal, and so on .
Then you do test drive if pass you get the license then you can drive your car .
also in public speaking you first write your idea then try to find some body to speak infront of him and try to speak infront of some of your friends then in small group of people until you throw away the nervous when you speak in public.
now you are ready to speak in big conference any where insha'allah .

I'm always trying to be confident before speech, i will practice and sometimes i asked my friend to seat and practice in front of them so i can control my stress, nervelessness.
during the speech if i get stress or nervous while looking at audience so i will try to don't look at the face and just look a different point. last time that i have gotten stress or nervous during public speech first i took a deep breath and tried to be dominant on the nervous then continued the speech.

for me there isn't anything that can calm me down, I'm mostly nervous all the time, but I found some ways to make me relax and think clearly; I always try to practice anything I'm about to do, and also try to remind myself of my previous achievements.

I think constant interacting with people and socializing is very good for nervous speakers as well as a good place to start practicing.

All people will feel nervous when they want to give their speech infront of people. So am i. The last time i felt nervous is one year ago. I try to calm my feeling, but i can't. And i told to myself that is other people can, why not me? It not as easy as that. I try my luck and give my speach because others also feel like what ifelt. And i just think in my head that i can be better than others. By doing that, my nervouse calm slowly.

Most of us feel that speaking is like when we are being pulled to be killed, that's all because of the negative idea about speaking out infront of people.

Speaking need to be done in some steps and the important is by preparing yourself before everything. "preparing" refer to many things as many as we can't imagine. It means read, research, ask, analyze, be ready, practice etc.

I think that if the speaker is not used to speak for period, he will get nervous; because it has been time that he didn't speak. That what happen when lecturers ask us to speak and we have been away for a few months, and also we are not adapt to speak. The language may would one of the problems also no idea and the main thing that some they don have the basic or the rules of speaking and that why they become nervous and feel heavy.

Finally, i encourage all speakers before riding the stage, go on and read about rules of speaking.

But really, Speaking in public is about experience, you have to look for examples of those before you.. and copy the good things they did, and not "screw" up like they did, lol.

I found Mr.Ritz Chewan words to have hit the target of the topic exactly, his words are of experience with trial and error with some good general advice about how to deal with questions and the need to be knowledgeable of the topic you speak of.

i think that because of the negative idea in our subconscious minds which affect our conscious minds..
i have these problems too but
i overcame a little bit of the nervous that i have i think good preparation and enough practice will be helpful plus that knowing you are not doing something wrong or something that is illegal...

As a part of the community I’m also aware of the importance of public speaking, one cannot simply deny the impact of public speaking skills and the role it plays in the employability. Actually, we are all aware of that, but some of us choose not to further enhance that particular skill only because of confidence issues. Actually, there is no need to panic! It’s perfectly normal to be nervous as it’s a new experience.

Imagine this, you’re in a class full of students and you don’t have any problem to ask questions or make jokes as long as you’re in your seat, your comfort zone. Now imagine that the lecturer asks you to go in front of all students and repeat the exact same things that you have been saying from your seat, you notice that it’s totally a different experience. When you’re the center of attention, when every pair of eyes is fixed on you, you try very hard not to make any mistake, because people are listening, at least some of them do, and they’re listening analytically, and you know that because most of us share that attribute. That wasn’t really an example of public speaking I just wanted to point out the fear of crowd that most of us share

My only solution to avert nervousness is to make myself more knowledgeable, and having knowledge increases our confidence when speaking. Believe me you don’t want to give a lecture to someone about something you don’t really know! Always be ready for a challenge from your audience, and that’s going to give you an edge in persuading the audience and it boosts your confidence as well.

The public speaking is very important to everyone as it help us to communicate well with the others.
I believe that everybody has lack of confidence to speak in front the people that means when we see the crowd we will feel afraid to speak influence .i think that is naturally in the first time to speak with new language.
I hope I can improve my public speaking skill soon and throw my nervous speaking.

Nervous is not a strong enough word to describe what I usually felt while presenting to an audience. Just for now, it'll suffice.

I used to, when I'm forced to give it, prepare a speech on a piece of paper and read it in front of the crowd. I learned later on that it's a bad practice simply because people can easily make up how nervous you are when the paper you're holding starts to shake like crazy.

When reading from a paper is a no-no, I was forced to memorize the speech. While I was doing just that I realize one thing; there was never a trick to begin with.

Because I wanted to memorize the speech so badly, I read the speech over and over again. I gave the same speech over and over again; using hand gestures where appropriate. Then the nervousness simply went away.

It's all about practicing. Repeating an awkward action over again will always make the action less awkward.

Actually when i read it i understand what are the reasons that makes me did badly in my presentation even when i m try to speak in public due to nervous. .shyness ,fear ,lack of confidence ,and lack of knowledge is all my problem actually , Such fear of speaking can be a disaster for the sales person, but it need not be so. Speaking skills are easy to acquire once the fear is controlled. Most of us believe parts of life are inherently stressful. In fact, most of us have been taught to believe that life as a whole is very stressful!
You won’t be very good at it the first few times, but don’t expect to be. Simply make it a goal to do it and finish. Once you’ve done it a few times, and you realize it hasn’t killed you, you’ll be less afraid to do it the next time. And if you keep doing it, eventually you’ll start to get good at it and may even learn to enjoy it.
I think one of the reasons people fear public speaking is that they expect too much of themselves. It’s like being afraid of flying a plane when you’ve had no instruction. Of course you’re going to fail. If the pilot calls you up to the cockpit and says “land this plane,” it’s a safe bet you’ll crash if you try it.
But at least when you fail at public speaking, it isn’t normally fatal. Failure is actually one of the best ways to learn it. It’s the same way we learn to walk and talk when we’re toddlers. We stumble and stutter until we get it right. Just as you wouldn’t expect a white belt in Karate to be able to break a brick, you also wouldn’t expect a first-time public speaker to be as polished as a pro. But sadly, people demand such a level of performance of themselves, expecting that if they’re going to speak publicly, they’d better be outstanding. And since this isn’t going to happen, it generates fear. But the fear largely goes away if you set realistic expectations and head up to the lectern expecting to stink your first few times.
To deal with any type of stress effectively, you first must understand that life itself, including public speaking, is NOT inherently stressful. Thousands of human beings have learned to speak in front of groups with little or no stress at all. Many of these people were initially terrified to speak in public. Their knees would shake, their voices would tremble, their thoughts would become jumbled . . . you know the rest. Yet they learned to eliminate their fear of public speaking completely.

In my opinion, nervousness is a common feeling for somebody who has no or little experience in public speaking. So do I, I rarely participate in public speaking, therefore, I admit that I feel nervous too when I'm about to talk in front of the people. But then, I had to do oral presentations for some subjects, and I gradually learned the way how to reduce the nervousness.

As for me, I think I got the confidence and have no problems to speak in front of the audience as long as I got the idea of what I am going to deliver in the speech. But if I don't know what am I going to say, I discover that nervousness will strike me, my heart beats fast and I'll be start sweating and stuttering in front of the audience. Therefore, my strategies for myself are that I have to be well-prepared for each and every speech, usually by remembering the keywords of what I am going to say in the speech. Then, plan the flow of your speech, like what are you going to say at the beginning, and what are you going to say at the end. choose an appropriate tone of voice which shows that you're really into it with full confidence and stay relaxed throughout the speech.

Well, that only applies to me when I know what I am supposed to say. Now, I have to find out how to overcome nervousness when it comes to giving a speech instantly without having to prepare for the speech, because I'm totally bad at it.

It is really not so easy to go out and talk while every one surly listing at me but I could handel it as far as I go in the talk.

so only once i start my talk it will be quite hard is just like all the point that I want to talk about all fly over my head but as soon as I talk the ideas will be back.

I don’t remember the last time I’m really nervous because I always get nervous when I have to come in front of the audience and do the presentation. Haha. But it’s normal for most people right Puan? Every time I get nervous, I will tell myself to be calm and relax so the audience won’t at least notice that actually my hand or any part of the body is quite shaking and trembling. But it’s also depends on the size and type of the audience. I still able to act cool if there are a few people and also I knew most of them. But then, if the crowd is huge and I don’t recognize them, that would be the worse nervous that I would suffer. To encounter this, maybe just by looking at certain people with the looks of ‘you-can-do-this’ will help lighten up my spirit during the presentation. I am still looking forward to how I can manage my nervousness, finding the right ingredients to control it so that one day I won’t suffer nervous and anxiety badly if I have to do presentation and public speaking in the future.

That's me. Don't know why every time when I heard presentation or I need to give a speech my hand will shaking and my heart beat so fast.I feel shy but with a little bit of confident, maybe.

To avoid this feeling usually I do talk with myself, in front of mirror maybe. I practice and practice a lot. Either do it alone or with my friends or as mention just now talk with the mirror.

Then I say 'you can do it. Don't worry everything will gonna be just fine'. That's how I encounter my nervousness if not when I come in front my mind suddenly become clear. I don't what to talk how to say even though I did practice it.

But it's about my confident level usually I'll make myself feel calm first then pretend that I have a lot of confident. By doing this it gives me the strength to talk.

But if you want to know I'll talk too fast with 'aaa' sound if I feel nervous.

Maybe I should talk a lot in front of people so that I can reduce my nervousness.

Being assigned to speak in public always scared me. I am always afraid that I will make mistakes in front of the crowds. I still remember when I had to make a speech during presented in front of the class for subject public speaking. Well, is not only happen at that time but almost when I started to present in front of the class. My heart felt like jumping out of my chest, my palms were sweating, and I had a great flutter in my stomach. I knew that whatever happened, I would still have to deliver my speech so to overcome the nervousness, I prepared well. I practiced to speak in front of the mirror to see my expressions. I made sure that my face didn’t show the real nervous feeling I had. I also tried to talk in front of my friends. That might sounds lame but I had no choice in order to make sure I could do it successfully. I asked for their opinion, which parts I should improve and what should I do to make sure I could deliver well. Upon the time I had to talk, I told myself not to spoil every effort I had put before.

I kept myself calm by taking a deep breath. I told myself that there was nothing to be afraid of; I kept setting my mind that the people wouldn’t kill me if I didn’t talk well to comfort myself. I also tried to be positive and believe in myself that I could do it. Guess what? It really worked. I delivered the speech well as I didn’t think much when delivering it. I just speak out loud with no fear to make mistakes.

After done with it, I actually realise something, the secret ingredient that had gave me the strength to be able to speak in front of the crowds was actually my faith. If I didn’t have faith in myself, I I didn’t believe that I can do it, I must had not overcome the nervousness inside me.

I think the confidence and practice is the best way to overcome the nervousness. If you get full information about your topic and practice well I think your confidence will increase. About me, I always felt nervous because I speak in English that's why I hope this problem go away in the future .During the speech I always look to who seat in the end and I avoid to look to the faces that’s helps me and gave me more confidence of myself.

Fear of public speaking is one of the most common fears. Presentation make me nervous and stress when I look each student looking to me and waiting what I will say… this is worse thing if I lose my control and confidence ,that’s make me disappointed .

I have this kind of problem when i go for public speaking, one of them is my legs are terribly shaking in sudden while talking especially when I'm forgetting points. I'm also sweating when i lost my focus on my subject of presentation in the middle of a speech. Well, maybe because of spectator reaction etc..

But later, as I'm growing older, i have more confidence, matured and start to be an easy going guy.

What i do is that before I'm giving a speech, i will built up my confidence by building my enthusiasm towards my subject, and thinking that this subject is important to be deliver to the audience.

Truth is, its work every time, maybe because it give me such a confidence and self responsibility power that move me to give an excellent speech.

However, this kind of step actually come with a cost. I realized that when i used this step, my humor and interactivity in speech is reducing. The step I've taken has give me a serious and more direct style of speaking, and we know that is not good(maybe) because audience will easily be bored.

So, that's so much about my countermeasure for the nervous sickness.

There will be a point in our lives that we will eventually experience "The Nervous Speaker" feeling. This is a normal feeling that makes us want to avoid public speaking. But this is not something that cannot be fixed.

When I am on a stage about to deliver a speech to an audience, I begin to worry about things such as remembering what to say, my appearance, Am I on the right topic? What questions are going to be asked later? how will the audience react? These things are what cause me to become nervous. All these things happen due to the lack of preparation and confidence.
Base on my experience, the best thing to do before giving your speech is to really know what you are talking about and you have to show it as well. You should also just remember the main points and elaborate them with your own words instead of memorizing a script.

I admit, when I stand on the stage to give a speech and while I am preparing my idea that I already have done my practice on it, I still have this kind of nervousness that breaks everything in my mind.
A lot of students I have been seeing are suffering from public speaking, and their reactions are different, and I thank my god. I am not worse as much as some of them.
Lack of confidence and knowledge of course lead to this situation, and for me else because English considered my second new language and all of these unconvincing reasons that limit and reduce the opportunity of creativity.
I have not stopped, and I am working hard to overcome all of these obstacles. By using some of the creative ideas such as holding pen while I am performing my presentation, and believing that there is no harm in giving a speech that you have read and get it from credible sources, for example, else a positive thinking with respecting the audience is helping to concentrate on our topic that we are talking on it and to handle our position on the stage.
Eventually, we are susceptible to encounter this stressful situation about giving a speech in the university, at the workplace and even among our family So, by following the guideline from the professionals and knowing that nervous in public is natural, you just have to be brave enough to face it, or you won't be able to make your next step to the successful public speech.

Well,im am nervous speaker.Plus in my family,im the worst english speaker ever.Well i break my family tradition by having band 2 in muet.Kinda embrassing to said it.My first experiences to speak at public eventually turn into disaster.I kinda hard to speak.Somehow i manage to act cool.And thinking that every person infront of me are same like me.They all not perfect like me too.By thinking that i manage to give presentation althougt it not good but im still happy with myself.I didnt expect that i can give a presentation like that.

After that event ,i frequenly speak in English to my family.English maybe not my first language but in time i will manage to conquer it slowly.

they asume as if every one looks at the slightes
mistake they are doing and forgets what they are
suppose to be talking about. i had my nrvousness
experince and i overcomed it by practice and
ensuring that the fluency is there when i talk to
anyone . i make sure that i dont stammer when i talk .
i make sure that i dont get lost and get off track
on what im suppose to deliver to the audience. this is
my story , each time when my school teacher picks me out
to deliver something in class. i would often look at the floor
and not to the people . that was the way i took care of business
those days . sooner or later my dad (english lectuere) tought
me on how to lose the nervousness and be firm on what you are going to
deliver . from that day on wards i've lost a large amount
of this "NERVOUSNESS" and i can speak with confidence.

Looking back at the past, I do remember certain situations where I had to face my biggest enemy, Mr.Nervousness. I have been in many situations where I was drawn into a state of nervousness and my hands would start shivering by itself and my heartbeat will increase in speed, thumping furiously like a techno drum beat. There were two distinct scenarios which tested the limits of my nervousness. One was my first piano test and the other when representing my school for the district Public Speaking competition. In both occasions, I was gripped by immense nervousness.Somehow my brain told me , I have to do something before things get complicated. I took a deep breath and told my self that I sculpt my future. It came into my mind that I should not react to a situation but act in a situation. With these words in my heart, I took a deep breath again and faced the situation. I always believe the more we are pushed to our limits, the more experience we gain in life. Whether it is presenting a speech in front a crowd or performing a piano piece in front a multitude of spectators,the only thing I say to myself is, I sculpt my future and it is not wise to be nervous. I take hold of my nervousness and put it aside because in the end of the day, I can say to myself that I am strong enough to conquer my fears. Nervousness may grip us, but victory is achieved when we are brave enough to put or nervousness aside. This is how I learnt how to defeat Mr.Nervousness and until today, I win.

Im sure that everyone will have nervousness at first regardless of anything even when you're trying new bizarre food,you might have negative thought of it taste, the smell, after effect but if you dont eat that you'll nvr know how it taste like and you may not even know if u love it or not.
Same goes to public speaking
we must have the determination and strength to do the first step in public speaking which is to try or
without trying. You will never know your actually capability. However
practice makes perfect. So we must always have conversation in order to gain more self confidence. So when u get urself audience u'll know how to get their attention and also to make ur topic interesting
by doing this, not only u develop ur presentation skill, but also ur public relation skills. Good luck !

When it comes to speaking in front of an audience, I get really nervous as I am very shy to people I am not familiar with. It has become an obstacle for me throughout my whole studies. Its not that I have a problem with language, but its the thought of having people staring at you while you're talking or presenting. Another problem is that I tend to blush easily and that, I guess is my main fear of presenting. My face always turns red quickly whenever i'm embarrassed.
However, now I have found a solution where I would say it to my group mates that I'm going to blush, so the fact that knowing it will happen somehow cools me down a bit. :D I guess with more practice of speaking in front of an audience, I can somehow push away my nervousness and be more relax without having to blush :)

Everyone gets nervous at their first experiences in public speaking. And some people blame themselves for having public speaking fear and performance anxieties. The truth is before you can solve a problem you must first own up to it. Before you can conquer your public speaking fear, you must first acknowledge that you have it and that you’re still a good person even though you have it.
The most moment that I will never forget it I was very nervous during my institution life at the stage of institute when I had to present my graduation project in front of the Minister of electricity and the minister of Minister of Education because my project was about a software to the first company of power in my country. So I was very distracted then I managed my ways to overcome this situation. Then I started to go through the problem from the beginning. I had to know and understand that it is normal to feel nervous. It is a natural occurrence in one’s body. It is ok. Everyone gets that nerve-wracking feeling. It’s a good feeling knowing you’re not the only one feeling terrible. That is one witty and tricky way in overcoming nervousness in public speaking. Then I thought about a way to convert the nervousness into a positive energy. As the saying goes, “If you can’t beat them, join them.” Why not make that nervous feeling into something that would make you feel excited, something that will keep you going, keep your blood and adrenalin rushing. Example: excitement is a good conversion of nervousness. Without excitement, your speech will most probably be a boredom. So instead of bearing with your shaky cold hands, trembling knees which will definitely spoil your moment, convert those into jerky gestures that convey excitement. 1) nervous problems often occur when we are speaking in public. yes, that's true. I often have trouble nervous, especially when I had to deal with a surprise. shocks such as forcing me to strike my head against the wall and talk, "Why me!?". However, if we continue to think negatively like that, we will not ever know who our true self, what ability we have, and to what extent our ability to face a challenge. therefore, we as the new speaker must have the courage to try something new and improve weaknesses.

'Nervousness' is a not a very good felling especially it happen when we do a presentation or speak in public. Why we become nervous? That is a habit to new speaker that not usual speak in public. Moreover, i become more nervous because i am not good speak in english. But if in malay, my nervousness become less and i am become more confident when speak up. Lastly, what was the secret ingredient that gave me the strength to conquer my nervousness in public speaking is i will practice a lot and pray to Allah to give strengthen to me when speak in public.

I believe public speaking is many people’s greatest fear and this includes me in the list. Well, every time I need to present something, instead of saying ‘I can do this’, I tend to feed my anxiety with self-critical talk like ‘I’ll just do a terrible job and embarrassed myself in front of the crowd.’ Not a good thing to do since it would just bring me down and gets me more nervous to talk. Recently, I had to present a group assignment to the class and it doesn’t goes quite well. I forgot what I should say once everyone starts staring at me, especially the lecturer.

Just what you’ve said earlier Puan Zue, public speaking has become so essential nowadays, so, by hook or by crooks I must get used to it. Sometimes, to overcome my nervousness, I’ll place my focus onto friends that I feel comfortable with. Apart from that, trying to rehearse repeatedly before presenting as well as visualizing myself and how the crowd would react to my speech are ways that I used to overcome my nervousness.

To be a part of the community in this challenging era is hard, we need to deliver ourselves in such convincing way to gain people’s acknowledgement. Hence, what I can say is, to be frightened or to feel such nervousness when we have to speak out in front of the crowd, that’s common, but, somehow, we have to find ways to overcome it no matter how since it has become such vital part in today’s lifestyle.

Uh Nervous Speaking!! I like this topic so much, I think most of us had a story and fear of public speaking, 
And this is a story of mine as well,

There was once a time when I had no fear. I was 11 years old and I entered a story telling competition. I was confidently telling the story and captured everyone’s attention until suddenly I heard a voice from just in front of the stage commenting about my nose. It’s totally disastrous from that moment on. I lost focus and forgot the script altogether. That’s the exact time that I began to have a certain fear of public speaking.

Over the years, I finally overcome my fear of public speaking. I can now speak at any function unprepared and even though the nervousness is still there, I am able to control it. It was not easy but I made it with some help from books and a few techniques I develop myself.


Hopefully these tricks will help you guys as it does help me

Hello mam,
Public speaking????? Hard to say even when hear about the word 'Public speaking' I will think OMG I don’t want to talk at all it seems I’m afraid to talk.....When do the speaking I really nervous not only that lack of knowledge and lack of confidence is another issue that playing inside me. When my first speaking in class was really terrible because I'm not good in talking in front of people then, I start to be nervous and shaking. Another part is, I can't remember what are the points that I need to explain in front of the audience.

To overcome this, I will just smile and moving my hand and will try to seek the idea to elaborate about the topic given. The time given is about 3-4 minutes actually look long when you stand in front people and do nothing, it’s same goes for me. But at some point the feeling will change from nervous it will become relaxing and I will start to talk nonsense just want the time finish hehehe….
Don't let the "nervousness" stop u from trying. Feeling nervous in public is perfectly natural, u just have to face it.

I actually go out and talk to members of the audience before a presentation in order to get me in the comfort zone. That usually eases my stress and lessens the nervousness. It's through talking with the audience that I realize that they aren't so bad-and chances are, they won't throw rotten tomatoes at me! At least, I hope not!

I agree on the fact that, public speaking is one of the important sides of todays modern life. In order to build a good carrier, you must develop yuorself as a good speaker and good communicator. And university is a best place whhere everyone is able to practise his or her public speaking skills.
In my life i had an exeprience in deleviring speaches in public, because i used to be a student President in my university. And anyone whoever tried to speak in public can say that for the first time it is very stressful and nervous. Because, the thoughts about how others think about you, how is your voice, words and many others things force you to become nervous. The main reason of why people become nervous, i think, is a fear of failure in front of hundred of audience.
For me, self-confidence comes with experience. Each time is getting better and better. Sometimes i still nervous when i speak in English, because of language barrier. But when i speak in my language i'm ok!
So, my advice is just keep experiencing and use each and every opportunity to speak. And one day, for sure, you will become an excellent speaker.Good luck!

I think everyone has to be nervous when it comes to public speaking. and that's always for the first half minute or first minute of the specific duration time. for me, i'm always nervous when i start to talk in front of people specially when i don't know them. but, actually, i feel more confidence when i am prepared for my title. and specially when the audience let you feel they are really listening to you.
What i do is that i try to find some faces in the audience which i think they are really interested in my topic and i start looking at them as i talking just to them.
What i tell myself?
it's actually depends about the audience if i found them interested in my topic or not. If i they are interested i try to organize my points and try to explain it clearly. But if they are not interested i try to bring some think into the topic which it's going to make them pay attention to the topic or be interested in the topic.
what was the secret ingredient that gave you the strength to conquer your nervousness in public speaking?
well, at first i didn't like the idea of me going in front anyone and talk at all. but after i join to uniten i saw most of the projects the students have to go in front and talk and i remember my first time doing a presentation it was really not good and after that, when i did my second and third one i have learned from my past. and specially when i see my friends speaking in front there without any nervousness or without any think can bother them. I said i have to e like them one day. And actually, i'm not saying that i'm really good in public speaking but i'm really glad where i'm now when i speak in front of people.

I know everyone must feel this when be a speaker. The different is how we control our nervous. I also nervous when i speak in front of everyone such as in class or when presentation. How i control my nervous is when i speaking i try to smile as i can. :) And i try to keep moving my body to make people didn't notice when i nervous. The problem always happen when i feel nervous is because i not prepare and i don't have point to talk or i even not understand what should i talk. I not very good in understanding English language, so sometimes the topic mam Zue give in class in impromptu speech i not understand what it mean at all. This situation will make me feel very nervous to speak. Everyone can be a cool speaker. But for me, if people see me as cool speaker, i'm still nervous speaker. :)

I'm 21 years old but I still encounter with this kind of problem when speaking in public. I'm not shy, and can start speaking with new people easily. But when it comes to the public speech I do not know what happens with me. I forget words, thoughts get confused in my head and I become nervous.
Luckily, I realized just now that I'm improving my public speaking skills because my first experience was terrible and I don't want to recall that case :) With every speaking in public I become more confident and less afraid of speaking.
One my lecturer advised me to rehearse the speech in front of mirror. I think that is the secret of perfect public speech.

i'm not a good speaker. fear of public speaking is one of the most fear for me. presentations make me feel nervous and stress as a lot of people are looking to me and waiting for wahat i will say. that's make me lose my confidence and at the same time i feel dissappointedwhen i have no ideas as what to talk for.

lastly,try to get close with people or audience. try to make a body contact,eye contact. Speaking has become our daily action. How to express your thought and opinions well? How to persuade people? How to get agreement from people? It is depends on the thinking and fluency of language. I am a nervous speaker, especially in impromptu speech. I might talk anything where I don’t know what did I said and it might not make sense. It is true to read more, talks more and has enough preparation before you come on stage to do presentation. If you are not preparing well, you wouldn’t give a good presentation. Keep reading the slides only when giving presentation, but when being asked by the audience, the presenter couldn’t answer. This will add more nervous. In the other way, if you had enough preparation, but you do not have the courage to face the audience and couldn’t give your speech fluently, it is not a good presentation either. Presentation is a kind of persuasive performance. Any words come out from your mouth, could it changes the audience’s mind? It is depends on the presentation. If you had a strong point, because of nervous and poor English, the strong point could become a useless point. In the other hand, if your English is very good and have big confidence, a common point could change people’s mind!
My method to encounter the nervousness is to do rehearsal before presentation. Rehearsal once or twice before giving presentation. This is quite works for me because I would know which part I do not understand well, what I would want to tell to the audience.
Perhaps, you could tell yourselves “practices make perfect”. Learn from the mistakes is also important, because you could review yourselves and improve the skills. The most importantly is, grasp the English language well, and think intelligently to persuade people. #learning

well, I am one of the nervous speakers.I remember the first few times I speak, I was so nervous.My knees were shaking as I got out of my seat. My stomach does somersaults,My hands start to quiver. My ears became hot as I blush bright red, My voice wavers, and so many other thing. As I became more experienced, most nervousness were subsided. For my first speech,I just stand up and forced myself to do it. Once I start speaking and get a few sentences out, the nervousness was getting fade. As Jerry Seinfeld said:"According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two.This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy." I think he is right. hehe. just like last Saturday conference , I had a very nervous-full speech , I think that all of the audience realized that , I prepared a lot for that speech but when I put my legs on the stage I felt so cold just like freezing and my mind became empty suddenly.. even I forgot my name and my last name. I looked like so dumb. I was trying to control my voice vibration but I could not!!anyways. I think I should gain more experience and put myself in this tough situations more and more, so I will be able to overcome my nervous feeling. I always say this to myself that audience members are only human. They have as many or more problems and inadequacies as I do. Don’t build them into some monolithic gathering of super beings. Most of them would be nervous too if they were in my shoes.I try to pretend that I'm talking to one person that I know very well. It could be a spouse, parent, best friend, whoever.I just try to pretend like that ! :)
some tips for those who are one of the nervous speakers:"remember that the audience is there to see and hear YOU. That means you are doing them a favor. You are providing them with education, entertainment and energy they do not currently have. They are lucky you are willing to take your valuable time to give it to them."
I bravely say that I will be able to handle myself in my next public speech!!

I read some articles and found that everyone, even experienced speakers, has some anxiety when speaking in front of a group of people. Some of the world's most famous presenters have freely admitted to nervousness and stage fright. In my opinion, in order to deal with this anxiety is to first acknowledge that this fear is perfectly normal and you are not alone. Secondly, have properly and thoroughly well prepare before the speech can greatly reduce the fear. Besides, I believe experience builds confidences. I always find my anxieties decrease after I have experiences with several speech. Another thing we may not notice in our daily life is that we seldom feel nervous when talking to a complete strangers online via text media such as facebook. We can try to practice and make it same in the offline situation.

When I stand on the stage to give a speech and while I am preparing my idea that I already have done my practice on it, I still have this kind of nervousness that breaks everything in my mind.

Sometimes when I see someone talking about a certten matter, a lot of ideas & thoughts came to my mind! Sometimes I feel to volunteer & go to that stage to share my idea, but when the moment of truth comes! everything I gather just disappear.

Untill now I have never talked in this class, but I'm very sure that one day I will be picked so I have to kill that nervous & talk. I'm pretty sure when I start talking in the right way! I would be able to end my speech in a right way too. Week by week & I'm feeling more confident, because I'm seeing my classmates going & doing a great Job, so I'm trying to learn form them & from the comments I hear.

My advice to all is try to make friends in the class so you can feel comfartable like the way you talk to your friends.

I have tonnes of idea to be shared. Sadly, when I given the chance to speak in front, all the ideas just vanished! While I think it is related to my shyness and lack of confidence, I also believe my eagerness to achieve perfection also at fault here.
I love seeing other people especially prominent leaders giving speeches in front of a massive crowd.
I'll keep trying to improve my public speaker persona.
Hopefully, one day I'll become one of the best speakers!

The first times, when I was practicing the speaking in front of audience I get nervous. Even though I tried so many types of method in order to be not nervous in front of people it was impossible to kill this nervousness. However, our lecturer every time told to us that “other students from foreign countries are not as shy as you, they are active during the class, and they ask questions if they do not understand something”. Listening such kind of phrases every day I ask by myself “Why we cannot do these things that others can do?”, and after that I forget about nervousness and other things that makes me to be nervous, and came to conclusion to practice speaking in front of audience as much as possible. Right now I like to speak in front of people, share my ideas and positions with others when it comes about certain type of topic.

I agree that I do I have problems with stage fright. I get nervous any time I have to perform in front of others, mainly because of lack experience and self-confidence. My nerves used to get to me. Sometimes I would get so nervous that I would shake, and I would be so worried about being nervous that it would hurt my performance. But I find the best things to do are to be prepared, accept that a mistake doesn’t mean the whole thing is a disaster and get your breathing under control.

I remember the feeling still to this day on my stomach getting all knotted and feeling like I wanted to pass out. However, when I was given this opportunity something inside of me told me I had to do this to create a milestone in my life that I would never forget.

There are some things we can all do to manage this feeling of dread, and turn it into strength:

1) Preparation – Whenever I give a talk it feels like it’s the first time, even though I have already rehearsed it in my mind many times. Not the words but the energy, the feeling and mainly the reception of the talk. It is essential for new speakers and old alike that some practice is invested in the address. That way we can stand up well prepared, and can tell our nerves I’ve done this already, I can do it again now. The late great Steve Jobs used to practice incessantly before delivering a key address, a product launch.

2) Breathing – In my experience probably the hardest thing to manage at the start is the breathing. Maintain our breathing, deeply and evenly, as this will maintain oxygen flow and help us pace ourselves.

3) Motivation – Whenever I get nervous or excited I always think about how far I have come on my journey. The first thing to do is to tell ourselves, firmly, and audibly if necessary, that Yes, I can do this! I am up to this task! The fact of telling ourselves and reminding ourselves that we are capable and can do this is a powerful weapon in this fight.

Anyways we got to overcome this in order to convey our speech confidently in public. Talking in front of a group people?? No no no..even you ask me to talk in front of just one person, my heart will beat so fast that it might pump out from my body! haha..Apparently i'm a very shy person and always experienced stage fright during the school days.

During the secondary school,english oral speaking test is one of the most challenging part for me. I can't speak naturally and my english is weak, therefore i tend to memorize the script. The moment i step in front to speak, my heart beat even faster and i started to forget the script that i had memorize! Thanks to Uniten,now i'm not that afraid to speak in front of people. This is because there's always presentation session from time to time. Therefore, I've learned some presentation skills and not that fear to speak up.

The most recent to speak in front of people was during the Pn Zue class! The moment Pn Zue picked me to speak, my heart started to beat very fast! haha.. But, when i got points to share i wouldn't mind to talk in front of people. I remembered vividly the moment when i went to the front and stand still before the class. Really surprised that i conquered nervousness! I don't have any nervous feeling! I just shared whatever things in my mind and i felt good! I do prepare some points before i speak and i depended on God and He helped me took away the nervous feeling.=) Besides that, i also learn to speak during a christian gathering where i need to share updates or testimony in a small group. This can be considered as one of my training ground too.

Like what Pn Zue said, we need to be persuasive at this level. I agreed that we need to have habit of reading so that we will gain a little bit of knowledge from different kind of perspective area. If we have some knowledge about certain area, then we will have no problem to speak even the topic is difficult. I hope that i can brush up myself more and able to speak eloquently.

I believe that every one of us felt nervous when we started to speak in front of public for the first time. As times go by, the more you speak in front of the public, the lesser nervousness you will feel. Do you agree that? I do felt that my nervousness is become lesser when I speak in front of public.
Last time, when I spoke in front of public, I felt so nervous. I feel like everyone’s eyes were looking at me, waiting for me to talk, maybe they were thinking “What she going to tell us?”, “What is she waiting for?”. The moment I looked at them, I didn’t know what I wanted to talk, my mind was so blank! I couldn’t think of anything what I exactly wanted to tell them, probably I just simply talk something and then went down to the stage.
While studying in university, there are more chances we have to speak in front of public. For example, we need to take one subject called “Public Speaking”, or we need to have presentation for some subjects. This is how I practice my public speaking and encounter the nervousness. When doing my presentation, I learnt to look at someone’s eyes. The eyes can be my friend’s eyes, lecturer’s eyes or someone sitting in front or at the back. It does reduce my nervousness when I’m presenting. Another way is write down the points on a small piece of paper. So when I’m presenting, I can refer to it. In case, I forgot what I need to present.
Now, although I still feel a bit nervous during public speaking or presentation, it does reduce compared to last time. I believe everyone can speak fluently without nervous in the future, if they can find a way to conquer the nervousness.

Rather than ask myself "am i a nervous speaker?" , I should ask myself when do I actually get nervous?

Obviously, the minutes when i stand infront of people , the nervous feel grow but once i start to speak, the feel will disappear just like that. Basically , i like to talk alot when given a chance to deliver on the topic that i really feel i know about it and i feel "yeah, i can do it". I usually get nervous when i'm not prepared. I really need to do more reading on the particular topic, so that i will be feel confident enough to speak and answer to the question asked.

Recently, i joined the Women Conference as a presenter. Actually, i'm not prepared enough as it is an overnight work. But thank god, i'm still brave enough to face the crowd. My personal experience and readings helps me alot throughout the presentation. I really enjoyed while presenting , but i do get stucked in between because lack of vocabularies at that moment. Emmm, that time i do get nervous, i just cant think what to say.

Besides, I'm not a person who can give an impromptu speech, i need to be prepared before start give a speech. If i'm prepared , i will be confident and wont feel nervous that much.

Maam, i would like to say that i really admire the way you speak and the confident level that you have while giving lecture. I do learn many things from you to improve my communication skill,maam.

Dear Madam Zue,

I was 5 years old when I was put on stage with hundreds of parents who were gathered for my kindergarten’s annual concert day. I was to say a welcome speech in Tamil. At that time it was easy because I have memorized that speech for more than a month! Since then, I was always comfortable to appear in front of public to deliver speech or to recite poems which I have memorized thoroughly earlier.

However as I grow, I was put in front of public for different purposes, presentations, talks and sharing just to name a few. This was the times when I had to speak and at the same time construct my own words and sentences simultaneously. At this point I started noticing the crowd that I am addressing to are giving all kinds of reactions… some were interested, some were dreaming and some were whispering to the person next to them and some were totally ignoring me. This was the point I started to feel very uncomfortable and nervous and this sometimes lead to a panic state.

At that situation all I hoped was to end the talk as soon as possible and even though I have lots of idea to be shared, the phobia of “are people getting bored with me? I better stop” always degraded my performance.
However I have learned that at this situation we can actually conquer the “nervousness” by taking a deep breath and glance at the audience that had been paying attention to us and continue with adding a few words like “my dear friends”, or “ladies and gentlemen” and injecting some questions towards them such as “do you know?” or “are you aware”. We can also invite the audience to participate by asking “how many of you think its correct, raise up your hands.” This will create a lively talk and audience is involved in the talk. Inserting jokes and humors will also keep the audience interested.

Perfects are made of practice, the more a speaker practice and rehearse his or her talk or presentation, the higher the chances to sharpen oral assessment skills. Talking in front of a mirror, friends or family or even while having a shower will definitely help. Practicing in front of a friend and require their comments to improve the speakers skill will definitely shape a speaker.

Last but not least, whenever I make a poor speech or performance that will be an embarrassing moment. However I will quickly console myself asking this question “will this matter a year from now?” I will then promise myself to do better. I will challenge myself.

I still remember the first time I was asked to speak about a random topic in front of my whole class. I have consulted my lecturer before that but I was still nervous. Anyway, the lecturer said that I can write the points in a piece of paper and speak. The thought of sounding like an idiot in front of the whole class was pure head spinning experience. Anyway, I took a deep breath and started out well. My lecturer kept nodding at each and every pause that I had. In some way, it gave me some kind of weird confidence. In the end I managed to speak well. I still remember this incident till this day but till now I still cant shake of the nervous feeling, although at that time I did well :)

This is my second comment for this entry. My first comment for this entry was in 2009. By the way, "The Nervous Speaker" is the best topic for a person who want to talk in front of others. He/she should read this article to improve his/her speech. Nervous is normal for every person who want to talk in front of audience. Nervous happened when we were lack of confidence and also lack of trust in ourselves. Confidence and trust are really important in our life. It will helps us to avoid nervous and make us become more brave to speak out our thoughts. Now, i'm a final year student who are taking Degree in Information System. In my course, there are a lots of presentation that I should participate in. In all this task and presentation, I as a presenter should take it as a challenge to throw away my nervous. When I am presenting all my work, I should be brave to speak out without nervous. Then it will helps me to show my confidence to my lecturer and also the audience. They will trust my thoughts when I show my confidence to them. How to avoid nervous? For me when we are nervous, we should relax and breathe smoothly. Besides, when you on stage, you should avoid yourself to see the audience. It will helps you to manage your nervous and will make you become more calm. Furthermore, nervous will be removed when you have an effort to keep on practising the speech. Make your own practise and try to do an extra practise on talk or speak out in front of others. Always participate on any talk or events that always need the opinion and try to throw your opinion as much as possible :). Thats all from me. Especially when it comes to subject or topic that i did not enough knowledge. When I face this situation first thing pop-up in my mind is"oh my God, i'm finished". Till now I still have that guts, even when I just need to speak to small scale of audiences. For me, to avoid this kind of situation, as a student we must always ready. Sometimes we need to practice in front of mirror plus we need to do some readings and then self confidence will rise. I am working on it. Pray me =)

In my opinion public speaking is one of the biggest fears. Before I was taking speech, I never really thought of public speaking being the number one fear of humans, but I couldn't agree more. I hate public speaking, I get all tensed up and when its my turn, I freeze. When i get in front of a group of people i tend to blank out and not know what to say next. I would convince myself that people on stage were really the bravest people I could think of.But I began thinking to myself on how might Duane's way of controlling fear might work. With this in mind, I started practicing on my speeches with my friend .I practice and I did good when I said my speech to her but once I got to class and it was my turn to do my speech I apparently didn't meet the time limit. I got very nervous speaking in front of people who I do not know as well as I know my friend. I agree that preparation is the most important key.

nervous speaker?? yes, as a human being i think everyone have that feeling. when i feeling nervous, i will shy, when i shy, i forgot everything what we want to do. that is my weakness :)

Nervousness? necessarily feeling it on every person who is dealing with the public over in every event they participate even as public speaking.

There are many ways to overcome or control the nervousness when dealing with people, as familiar with the area or place of speech, identifying the audience, relax, and more. But not everyone is able to control the nervousness in ways that are often dealt with it.

The first time I do public speaking was when I was 12, and at that time I was very nervous and afraid to speak so my legs shaking, but after doing speaking repeatedly in front of people's initial lack of nervousness.

But after some time did not speak, my back was nervous when asked to speak before the public. I sometimes try to control nervousness, but to no avail. only so far that I can share with you all. Till meet again.

during my schooldays,when there were a chance to speak in public,i'm the one who will reject that opportunity. this is simply because i'm a shy person. thus,speaking in public were so-not-good activity for me during the years.

but then when i enrolled in Uniten,i realized that public speaking was such an important skill for students to get better marks for presentations. but not just that,public speaking also becomes the requirements for companies to select their job applicants. those who get a good grades and having excellent public speaking skills will excel in their job pursue.

Assalamualaikum and hi ma'am :)
Reading this article make me reflect myself from my first time I’m study at UNITEN till now. Just want to share my experience. From the beginning, I was a nervous speaker when it comes to speaking in front especially in English. I think Ma'am Zue remember it :)
But after much practice and learning, I get something as to prepare myself to talk in front of people where and when ever I am. What I can say, we must be prepared. For me, I must have enough time to prepare to arrange my ideas and topic well. Sometimes if I didn't get much time, the nervousness caught me again and again making me speechless, blur, and keep saying aaaaaaa... for sometimes :) I think it’s same like other, I just how each of us react to encounter these situation if it’s happen.
